Went there for dinner with a couple of friends. The hats on the ceiling are cool and the place is friendly and warm. I ordered a chop sandwich with macaroni and cheese and vinegar slaw. The total came to almost $ 10. For me that’s a little expensive for a single sandwich and a very small portion of macaroni and cheese. The barbecue was OK. The macaroni and cheese was good. However for nearly $ 10 I expected a lot more food. The sauce is the offer on the table are numerous. I tried several and they were very flavorful. It was not a memorable experience. Locals told me that there are better barbecue places around there. I guess I’ll give those a try next time I’m in town. Don’t get me wrong the food was OK and I filled your belly. However I left there still hungry. The restaurant would be great for kids and family outings. The ordering process is a little cumbersome as everybody lines up behind one cashier who is taking the orders. Would I go back? Probably not.

Excellent experience. The food and atmosphere are great but the friendly staff is the best part. Dogs allowed on the patio which is great

I was driving on 26 E when I saw the big sign promoting this place. I must saw no regrets here. The minute you walk in, there’s a line and menus. You should review the menu before you get to order because it’s expected. I ordered the Phil’s BBQ sampler for $ 19.99, and it was plenty for two. It came with pulled pork, brisket, pulled chicken and baby ribs. This dish came with two sides, I chose cole slaw and potato salad. The smokey taste for the meat was out of this world. I’ve never tried smoked meat like this. I did not order any drinks, but the cashier instructed me to take a glass with water. I’m glad I stopped by and didn’t follow my GPS directions because I would had missed out.

Good place for NCBBQ. Country décor and ample seating. Outdoor patio seating also available, and I think I saw upstairs seating, perhaps for parties. Good music and TVs too. Food was good, not great, but good. I got the sampler plate(brisket, pork, chicken), and I guess I should have asked first but everything was chopped/pulled. I thought I’d have a piece of brisket and chicken. None of it had seasoning but they’re did have a good variety of sauces to drown the BBQ in(white BBQ, east Carolina[vinegar based], mustard, hot BBQ, traditional and I think 1 more). Hush puppies were normal, nothing to rave or complain about. On hubby’s plate his Mac-n-cheese were good and the okra were good too! Now, to my surprise the potato salad was really really darn good! It had a black pepper taste and I thanked God that is wasn’t sweet. I am very particular about my tater salad and theirs is one of the best I have ever had. But that’s not all, their baked beans make you wanna slap yo mamma and you neighbors mama, it’s that good. At first bite I told hubby that it taste like candy and he agreed. I finished them all. They were AMAZING and had pieces(nice meaty portions) of pulled pork in it too. I was too full to finish my plate($ 11.99 value) but I was interested in a desert. Got a fruit cobbler(blackberry) with ice cream to go. Oh My Word!!! That thing was awesome!!! Not too sweet, perfect for sharing(after a meal, if in between meals you will need your own… trust me, it’s that good) and there was ample breading; which in my book makes a cobbler worth while. I will be going back for cobbler before I leave the Black Mtn area!

Went this past weekend while in town for an ultra marathon event and the food was ok. The fried okra was very good and the fries were solid, but the pulled pork was a little dry and not enough seasoning or any smoke flavoring at all. One guy in our party enjoyed the Beef Brisket and the Collards but said the Mac and cheese didn’t at all taste home made. Overall it was a decent meal but a tad of a let down for authentic NCBBQ

I got the 2 combo meat plate with two sides(I hadn’t eaten all day, plus I’m a BBQ lover). The meats were pulled chicken and pork, and the sides were Mac and Cheese and fried Ocra. Best thing on the whole plate was the Mac and Cheese; I would have been content just ordering a big tray of it. The ocra was decent at best, no flavor in the batter but it was crunchy, and well breaded. Now, the meat. They definitely don’t skimp you on portion(that plus the Mac and Cheese earn it the 3 stars). There’s just no flavor whatsoever. Not a hint of smoke or dry rub or salt and pepper for that matter. At the tables they give you different sauces to put on your meat, which I highly recommend doing, because the meat is so dry youd need about 4 refills just to get through it all. The sauces themselves are summed up best with the word«Eh». Carolina red is the best for my taste, with the others not really delivering a Carolina BBQ flavor. Overall, it’s a good sides restaurant. The part that gives it half of the restaurants name needs revamping.

We have been here a few times, always giving a place a second chance. I understand doing something because you love it and it’s your passion and dream. And I’m glad you have so many folks who love it here. For me, on the whole, it was a miss. Twice. The chopped pork is the best thing on the menu that I’ve had so far. Finely chopped, nice floor, a little dry. The brisket, and I love brisket, was less to be was sad. The flavor was lost b6 how chopped up it was or maybe it didn’t have that amazing brisket flavor to begin with. Again, a little dry. The house made chops where good, but really need to be served with ranch or something to dip them in and the Mac and cheese is not headed, at least from the taste of it. Just open a can of cheese and stir it up? The folks here are nice, it’s a clean place with lots of parking and appears to be a locals favorite, so Good for you and I wish you much success!

Nicely done! Very good BBQ and the std sauce, hot sauce are great. Went with the sampler. They have it right. Many places do not do this, big mistake. I eat BBQ and make it, very good place, I’ll be back!

Weak-sister meat with stellar collard greens. Brisket seems parboiled with a hint of smoking, pork a little better but both bland, but strangely for BBQ of this flavor-free sort, it is served with sauce on the side. The sauces are good: Carolina vinegar, sweet and hot ketchup-based sauces and they’re best mixed in a ratio of your own determining. Fries were perfectly crispy crinkle-cut critters, if over-salted, but I would eat a phở-bowl full of their collards without hesitation. They’re that good and the only thing keeping me from making this a 2-star review. This will become no-one’s favorite BBQ joint.

My first time, I tried the chopped beef sandwich, came with chips, 2 oz slaw although good, a ketchup size cup wasn’t enough to really taste. The beef had ok flavor but was dry and chewy. A disappointment at best

Atmosphere was very nice. Lots to look at inside. Very interesting establishment on the inside. Service is self seating after you order at the counter and pick up your food. Portions were about average. Prices were average for this type of food. The counter service was fast and friendly. Now down to the food. The chopped pork was great. I got one thing to say though… Brisket ain’t made to be eaten chopped. It just ain’t right. We tried it and there was so much flavor lost. It would have been much better sliced. This is the first place I’ve eaten that had chopped brisket. Personally, not a fan. But it is unique. I definitely recommend this place over the fast food on this exit!!!

I’m not sure what the negative comments are all about. I got their 3 meat sampler and a half rack of the St. Louis ribs and while the meat by itself was pretty good, once you added one of their 5 sauces, everything was amazing! Both types of coleslaw were very good too. Atmosphere was great, prices very reasonable and a great local beer selection, what’s not to love?

Stopped en-route from NC to KY and it was terrific. Had BBQ sandwiches & slaw & tea; all very good. The dishes we saw on other tables looked great! Definitely a place to return whenever in the area.

Yuck. Stay away. Overpriced, unoriginal and over rated. Mac n’cheese was cold to room temperature from whatever tube/container/bucket they squeezed it from(definitely not homemade), hush puppies are those cheap corn flavored frozen things, sausage was spicy, fried pickles spicy, collard greens spicy. Pretty much most things were the same level of spicy. Bland with heat not flavor. For $ 40 for two people it was gross. It wasn’t even hot. If you like the chain Sonny’s and want a colder, higher priced, less original place to eat then go here. There’s a porch out front facing the street, looks like a decent place to drink so if you’re planning on getting drunk and don’t care about what you eat then I’m sure it’s fine.

Passing through and decided to stop here for some bbq! I ordered the chopped beef brisket with beans, potato salad, and hush puppies. We also had the three meat plate, sausage, pulled pork, and beef brisket, with fried okra, mac and cheese, and hush puppies. The brisket was delicious!!! And I love the variety of sauces they have on the tables, I ended up mixing a couple to my own liking! The pork was good, the sausage a bit dry, beans were good, mac and cheese was good, the okra was delicious, as were the hush puppies(I was full but I ate them all because they were so yummy!) the potato salad was a little bland and the potatoes weren’t cooked as much as I would have liked. The staff was so sweet and friendly! If you’re passing through make sure to stop here! You won’t be sorry!

Ok well for starters the girl taking orders was very short, snobby and rude not welcoming or friendly whatsoever. I ordered the brisket… wow no flavor I’m very dissappointed :(the sides(potato salad and bbq beans) were good that was about it.

This place is in a class by itself. The food is spectacular. Down to the sides. I love both the pork and the beef BBQ. If you are not sure what to get, try the sliders with one of each kind of meat; chicken, beef and pork. Then you have to figure out what sides. Oooh, the sides. Collard Greens or Mac & Cheese, Chips they make fresh in the restaurant. Awesome. Fried Okra is just spectacular. Then just the stuffed potato if you are looking mainstream. If none of that appeals either a rib plate or just a hamburger will be a treat just as well. Local beers or standard stuff. Go for a local brew. Asheville is home to fantastic beers. Peach cobbler if there is room. Clean rest rooms, friendly staff. Oh, and some really funny t-shirts. Will go back every chance I get.

The service and facility was classic BBQ joint. Some reviewers have complained about having to order at the counter and being«yelled at». The yelling is along the lines of «Welcome to Moe’s» it’s actually an attempt to be friendly. And the ordering — hea, this ain’t the dining room at the Ritz Carlton Hotel. The pulled pork was moist but didn’t have a lot of flavor. They do have 5 different sauces ranging from classic Carolina to an interesting ‘white’ sauce so that allowed us to add the flavor we wanted. Turnip greens were excellent — tender and perfectly seasoned — too many stems but then everyone comits that sin in the name of expediency. Potato salad and cole slaw were good but not great. Didn’t get to try the ribs or brisket or utilize the bar. We were there in a Sunday — looks like the place would be fun on a weeknight. Basically I would absolutely eat there again if convenient — but wouldn’t consider it a destination.
