History

Established in 1991.

The Grey Swan Inn Bed and Breakfast is a 5 guest room inn and is part of the National Register of Historical District in Blackstone, VA. It is still referred to as The Tuggle House by Blackstonians who still remember the original owners and their family members. Renovation to the building began in the early ’90’s with the conversion from a private residence to a bed and breakfast. The Hasbrouck’s became its fourth owner/innkeepers when they purchased it in Sept 2007.

Meet the Business Owner

Jim and Christine H.

Business Owner

Jim & Christine found The Grey Swan Inn after a two year search and are fulfilling a dream of becoming innkeepers. Jim retired 6÷1÷07 after 34 years with the USDA Forest Service beginning with 2 years of Peace Corps service in the Marshall Islands, central Pacific Ocean. He then went to work in Job Corps and moved into personnel where he worked in Oregon, West Virginia, Arkansas, Georgia, and Washington, DC. Christine brings her organizational skills from working many years as a support staff in the medical field. Both enjoy cooking and baking with Jim preparing most of the entrees and Christine putting a special touch to the flower arrangements, table settings, and fruit dishes.

When not in the inn, you will find one or both doing something in the community of Blackstone: Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Southside Area Community Theatre, Blackstone Friends of the Library.

Their favorite inn activity: visiting with their guests on the porch or in the parlor!
