Kmart

I will give K-​mart a 2.5 stars rounded up to 3. For those assuming the store is a «dump», I cannot say that at all.
While K-​marts (what’s left of them) in general are not going to be as prolific and competitive as they were say 20 years ago, there is something of a «nostalgia» feeling for this particular store which prompts me to stop in here say 3 – 4 times a year.
While I do not know for sure how long this K-​Mart has been here, it AT THE VERY MINIMUM goes back to the late 80’s — so «years» at this point. Same location, same store. I even remember coming here as a small kid with my folks and buying packs of baseball cards for about $ 1 when Ken Griffey Jr. and Gary Sheffield were the «rookies» everybody was looking for in the packs. I won’t list the year for this, but baseball followers will know when both of those guys started out and just how long this store has been here… :)
Is K-​mart competitively priced with their contemporaries like Wal-​Mart, Target, and Meijer — all who are within a mile radius? No, not really. K-​Mart is higher priced on a lot of items. If you know your prices on many general items, you will be able to tell this first hand. For example, Easy Cheese at K-​Mart was 4.99 when Meijer and Wal-​Mart have it for 3.79. Jack’s Pizzas were 4.99 a piece when they can be found at Menards for 2.99, or sometimes on bigger sale of 4 for 8.88. You would think the store would try to remain similarly priced to those stores, but for some reason they don’t — perhaps because they simply do not have the volume of shoppers come in as those other stores do. Less overall clientele usually means things have to be priced slightly higher. It’s kinda a double-​edged sword.
K-​mart also doesn’t necessarily have the same sized overall «selection» of goods, either. Think of a condensed version of your basic Wal-​Mart, with slightly higher prices. There is no garden or plant section anymore (or if there is, it is VERY tiny. I looked out the doors near the rear of the store and saw almost nothing), and even the automotive section is pretty small and contains the VERY BASICS. If you are looking for very specific car parts or such, probably best to stick with Napa or Car Quest.
The store is also kinda disorganized. I can’t say it is an outright mess by any means, but it could be more organized and tidied up. The few times I have stopped in here between May and July of this year, the store seemed to be moving stuff around and many things — being in new locations — had no prices on the shelf areas. Just kinda chaotic.
ON THE PLUS SIDE — the store WILL have nice sales on things. That is probably when you want to give them a visit and stock up. Also, I have heard their pharmacy is decently priced and the store does have a built-​in Little Caesar’s pizza place as you walk in.
I like this K-​Mart — again mostly for their occasional bargains, and the «nostalgia» factor. Truth be told I admire how this store has managed to stay open when many other K-​marts have shut down the past 10 years. Also, various stores in this same strip mall that once BOOMED (Circuit City, Dominick’s) have had to close over the years. For this alone, K-​Mart being a survivor is to be respected. If the store up and closed tomorrow though, I couldn’t say I’d be surprised.
I would recommend for sales, nostalgia for people who came here years ago and still like to occasionally bargain-​shop at «K-​MART», or if you are in the strip-​mall and just want to have a quick look around — you MAY find something for your liking. I couldn’t recommend for your main and total grocery shopping. It could be done — but — you are going to spend a lot more than you normally would.

This place is like the popular kid in high school except you see that person ten years later & they have BBQ stains all over their shirt & poop all over their pants.
It sounds cool to be able to go to a KMart, it’s almost like having the option of walking into a Venture or a Service Merchandise. Then you walk in here & realize it is like the same place from the 1990’s that Wal-​Mart claimed superiority over. Some of the products here are ridiculously priced. For example they have video games here that are marked at $ 59.99 but at Wal-​Mart they are $ 19.99. There are many products here that are over priced. They do have some nice patio furniture & a few different options opposed to Wal-​Mart or a few of the other places but the service here is also pretty bad.
I remember trying to ask one of the workers for help & they didn’t really seem like they wanted to help me out. I would ask for the location of any item & they would just say «It’s in that isle» instead of showing me where it is.
Going into a Wal-​Mart or Target you walk around & start buying things you didn’t intend to buy but here you can walk around for a long time & find nothing that you want. I always thought it would have been cool to see K Mart make a big comeback but they have tried over & over & just can’t get the pricing or the service right. While it is cool to go in here because it is like the 1990’s I would find it very difficult to be a regular shopper here.

Stop in for a few things which were easy to find. Walk around since I haven’t been in Kmart for awhile. Lot of selection and different brands.
When I went to check out there were two lanes with lights on. One already had a customer so I chose the other. The cashier was one counter over sorting gloves. So I waited and waited. Manager came by and saw me standing there and the lady sorting. I waited some more.
Finally went down to the other register and got in line. A lady got in the line I just left and was waited on right away. What the h…
Poor customer service.

The entire store radiates with a depressing feeling. It is unclean and poorly maintained. Even on the busy weekends and holiday shopping season, this store is deserted. Almost every single person in the store on any given day is an employee– not a single customer. Other department stores are sucking the business away form KMart. I predict that in the next year or so, this place will close forever. It is unfortunate.

Such a sad, sad store and such a sad, sad situation. I remember Kmarts being a viable shopping option for groceries and things of that nature back in the day. Thinking nostalgically on what they used to be, I wonder if they have actually declined in what they are… or is it just the coming up of stores like Target have shown a light onto what Kmarts are. Either way, Kmarts are nearly always rough to go to but this particular location is pretty darn bad.
I’ve gone to the Kmart in Bloomingdale a few times but after my weekend visit, I don’t think I will be returning. Each time I have popped in, it was to pick up a site to store item (buy it online, pick it up in the store). This should be a seamless process and is at many stores like Walmart and Target. Kmart uses an antiquated system of site to store though. Bad enough that their registers all look like they haven’t been updated since 1995 (it’s the norm during a shopping trip for a register to restart itself, crap out or simple be out of service — like register 5 at this location) but they don’t even use their registers or any type of computer for the process! That’s right, they use a good old fashioned pen & paper. A binder keeps all their online orders with everything handwritten matching order numbers with people. Seems a bit backwards for their online ordering. You sign in the book and they go retrieve your item from a locked cabinet.
Now there are about three locked cabinets to choose from. Your item is in a bag and they have no idea what you ordered so they just match your name with what’s on the bag. The entire process seems like it could be much more seamless if it was all computerized like at every other national retail chain.
This past weekend, I went in for what I believed to be a five minute trip to pick up my item. There was one person ahead of me in the customer service line so I anticipated a few minutes of waiting. I ended up waiting 25 minutes because the two managers/​customer service people would stop constantly to help cashiers with problems/​questions or talk with other workers about signing in, instead of helping the people in the customer service line. They would constantly walk away from the person they were helping without excusing themselves or apologizing. During the 25 minutes I was waiting, the line grew to nearly 20 people behind me. That’s a whole lot of people and I imagine was quite excruciating if each person had to wait at least 25 minutes.
When it was finally my turn, I knew it would be a quick wham, bam, thank you man. Nope! I waited nearly 25 minutes as the lady helping me did the same ol’ scenario of helping other cashiers instead of just grabbing my item. She also couldn’t find my item. It is quite a large item and she kept searching the same cabinet over and over instead of looking in the other two. This made no sense to me because you would see it in a glance due to its size if it was in there. And if you don’t see it within a couple of minutes, just have someone go grab another one (it was a very common, readily stocked item). I finally got my item when she did look in one of the other cabinets… as I said, 25 minutes later. She didn’t apologize but said…“Oh they mislabeled the…”(voice trailed off).
The whole trip was a complete fiasco, waiting 50 minutes to pick up one item is unacceptable in my book but it stung all the more thanks to no apology. I can only imagine how long those behind me were going to have to wait because that line sure grew. The guy behind me was making me groans & grunts & other exasperated noises as we waited.
Aside from my horrific weekend experience, this Kmart is not well organized, out of stock of many items, things thrown around everywhere, just generally disheveled. I love me some Adam Levine (in a completely non-​sexual way) and can’t believe he is newly paired with the store on his own fashion line. Nicki Minaj, I get because she’s a disaster… But Adam?! Come on, man! Pull out!
Nu uh, ain’t coming back here, ain’t gonna happen. It’s been real Kmart but so long!

Store review:
Can you feel a store dying. I think you can. The sears/​kmart venture is slowly circling the drain. The selections compared to target and walmart is terrible. So many of the items are overpriced and made of cheap materials. I can walk for hours and not figure out one thing to buy. I ended up going here to pick up drawer liners which are cheaper than other places. They still use a paper system so you buy for pick up and they have to pull out the book to look up the items. All and all I wish kmart good luck but I don’t think they will exist in a year.

I try to avoid this place if possible. They have the worst customer service and the slowest check outs. The last 2 times I have been here, I have waited in line for more than 25 minutes.

I frequent this Kmart even though I am not a fan for one reason. They keep sending me coupons = free $$! I signed up for a rewards card during the black Friday shopping extravaganza. I was told I would receive rewards for the items I purchased and that was the whole reason I signed up. They all say that but this card has really delivered.
Since that time, they send random money for you to use. For example, I received an email that said, you have $ 5 in free rewards to be used between the following three days. Well, I couldn’t let the money go to waste so I went in and bought paper products. They were on sale and I used the coupon. It really turned out to be a good deal. On this past weekend, I received an email with $ 3 in free rewards. I had no intentions on buying much from there, but I went in an bought Dove body was for $ 1.60. I get their prices are a little higher than other stores at times, but this was quite a steal and it is nearby.
I only wish there was more variety and competitive pricing. But, I will continue to cash in on the rewards. Thank you Kmart!

I don’t often frequent Kmart. I’m a Target gal who occasionally stops at Wal-​Mart. My hubby had received some pj’s and jeans at Christmas that weren’t quite right for him, so we ventured in lasted week to get something that worked out a bit better. (See that… VENTUREd in? You’d have to a child of the 80’s or prior to find me amusing at this point.)
The customer service desk is tucked away in the front of the store toward the middle. It’s weird. The counter is set back, so it’s not immediately recognizable when you walk in the front door.
We made our way over and learned that we could have a merchandise credit. That’s all I wanted without a receipt. But the ‘manager’ helping us was awful! Horribly rude to the young man that she wanted to shag the carts! Embarrassingly so in front of us. She yelled across the way to other employees. She was downright obnoxious. We couldn’t walk away from the customer service desk with our merchandise credit fast enough!
The merchandise was kind of a mess. Not everything, but a lot of things were all over.
Long story short… we did find a good set of replacement pj’s. But between the obnoxious manager and the riff raff thugging their way through the store, we were glad to leave.

Stopped in there tonight to pick up some storage containers for Christmas ornaments. First glance was that it looked decent and and organized. Did a little shopping and decided to head to the ladies room. Yikes… what a pit. It reeked in there and from the look and smell it had not been serviced in quite sometime. Now, I find this to be really unacceptable. I headed to the service desk while my husband was still checking out and told them that the bathroom was a mess. They just looked at me like I was crazy. Then as we are leaving my husband takes a look at the receipt and says how could they have charged us $ 6 for 2 small tea lights? We headed back to the service desk and same guy I spoke to told my husband, well, that is what they are going for today… Husband turns package of 2 small tea lights over and points out that they are only $ 1.79. Price was not a sticker but was printed on the cardboard packaging. Credit issued… and nuff said!

Years ago, my husband worked here. Now his younger sister and younger brother work here. I guess it runs in the family. I generally grew up thinking very little of Kmart since I had other awesome places to shop at (does anyone remember Venture? I do!!). When Target started growing everywhere, that was my to-​go place for random things. Needless to say, when my husband suggested we start going to Kmart, I was a bit skeptical.
This Kmart is a pleasant surprise from the dingy, messy, run-​down place I had envisioned in my hand. It had been recently remodeled at some point, so the store is well-​lit with shiny floors. Everything is organized (with the exception of some recently-​tossed-​around clothes by customers) and the layout is pretty easy to navigate. I haven’t made many purchases here (have I even made any at all?) but my husband likes coming here to look for random car things and a pair of work gloves or something. The prices aren’t really cheaper than competitors, though. The lines are pretty short too, since people seem to forget this place exist. For a Kmart, this place is pretty good. But then again, how often will I find myself at Kmart? Not very often.

Fixing my friend’s bike when several items broke on a cold morning — two were dodgy tools that had a «made in china» sticker on them. We brought the receipt and items back to Kmart for a full cash refund.
One good thing about Kmart is that store managers know that 95% of the products are low quality Chinese made goods that unloaded upon suckers who will pay the cheap price. They won’t argue with you. I only wish they would give more options.

I tried to give K-​Mart a chance, I really did.
Before I get into my review let me go over what transpired to lead me to visit K-​Mart today. Earlier in the day I tried to pick up some toothache gel from a Walgreens. To my dismay while that store was open, 80% of it was closed off so they could polish the floors. So my lunch break comes around and I have another opportunity to fend off my toothache. I could go to Meijer, I could go to Wal-​Mart, but I decide K-​Mart needs my business more than those places do and head there.
I go in and fairly quickly zero in on exactly what I’m looking for and get in line to check out. I wait, the person in front of me has a decent sized order and the cashier can’t check it out, another register opens. Someone else gets in that line, they can’t bring the register system up. I wait a few more minutes and the manager comes up and announces they’re going to have to reboot their whole inventory system. In the end I wasted about 15 valuable minutes of my lunch break trying to check out at K-​mart, I didn’t have time to wait for their system to reboot and I didn’t come out with my item. Disorganization like this is why K-​mart is struggling.
To be fair this K-​mart is clean and has household goods you might want, it’s just incidents like the one above that seem to be more common than at other retailers.

Meh, K-​Mart. Not exactly a store I get excited about, but every once in a while they have a decent deal or two in their clearance area.
Pros:
+ Look for markdown items, and sale goods
+ They have a Little Caesars if you need top-​notch, authentic Italian pizza, just like the real ancient Romans ate ;-)
+ As K-​Mart stores go, this place is fairly clean and modern
+ Plenty of parking, even on a weekend
+ Right next to Smashburger! :D
Cons:
— Like Wal-​Mart, a lot of the quality of their goods, especially clothing is lacking, you honestly aren’t even getting what you’re paying for
— Hard to find associates at times if you need help

did an online layaway and had my items ready to be picked up at this store once it was paid off. they called 2 days after my deposit was made notifying me my RCA 42 inch tv was out of stock. they had no idea when they would get it again. ok so i told them to cancel the tv and adjust my overall balance and refund the different with the deposit.“Dont worry, itll only take a few days.” A whole week goes by and my online account still says I have a tv! So I called the store and ask if they have the tv in stock so I could just keep it versus them canceling it (since they obviously hadn’t yet) [still following me?] i told the girl on the phone to check if they had LCD tvs since I dont want Plasmas. i might as well have been speaking Clingon to her. i hung up figuring i could go in person.
next day my boyfriend went in person and guess what? the lady tried to make him look like an idiot claiming he «never had a layaway in their store» «are you sure you did a layaway» and equally stupid and downright belittling remarks like that. at home sick i called «customer service» for kmart 3 times to try and help on my end. this went on for almost an hour. 3 different people at kmart couldn’t find our layaway, and the customer service was a complete joke. one girl was of no help, one guy hung up on me, and the other almost laughed at my problem and told me just to call the store. seriously? FINALLY one of the associates went to what apparently was a «different computer» and ‘lo and behold! there was my layaway. turns out my tv WAS canceled and sent the rest of the layaway into a different data base and made it impossible for the assoc. to look up on regular layaway computers. (???) I dont know, thats what she told my boyfriend. she then preceded to tell him all the hoops and ladders he would have to go through (doing this online) to keep the other items on the layaway. he made a good call and said forget it, got the layaway canceled. the girl informed him my deposit would be refunded in a few days.
well its been a few days and i still haven’t received my money. im dreading calling the store because to argue this because a) they’re complete idiots and b) they’ll be of no help at all.
if you ARE going to do a layaway, my advice, read reviews on the store you re going to pick it up at if you’re going to do that route. and DO NOT do it online. until they simplify their systems annoying confusing crap like this will continue to happen.
Personally, I’ll never have anything to do with this store again. Its not just worth it when I can go somewhere else where the employees (even if they dont care too) but are actually TRAINED right. its worth me paying a few extra bucks, or driving somewhere else for the peace of mind knowing im taken care of. i doubt ill do layaway again!

Noooooooooo! What happened to the sole reason I step foot into your store — the Redbox? One minute it’s there, inconveniently located inside the store. Next minute there isn’t even a trace that it was there. Now I’ll have to drive all the way down to 7-Eleven…boo.
I must admit, you do have good prices on your clearance items. I wouldn’t have known that if it wasn’t for Redbox. Why don’t you kiss and make up?

I don’t shop Kmart often because they aren’t close by. Went into this one and found some good prices on some clearance items. I buy for a nonprofit organization that helps recent immigrants and these items were something we often provide.
This Kmart is in the electronic «dark ages» when purchasing for a tax exempt organization. I had to fill out the same information 6 times to purchase 3 items! Name, address, phone number etc. over and over and over.
In the mean time everybody behind me has to go get in the one other lane because it takes so long. I even spoke to the store manager and he said that is just the way they have always done it at Kmart.
I will stick to Target and Walmart in the future.

I’ve been to plenty of Kmart’s and this one isn’t that bad. I wouldn’t consider it dirty at all, if you think this place is dirty you obviously haven’t been to that many Kmart’s! While Kmart is probably one of my least favorite shopping chains this one ranks as moderate for me. I don’t mind going and I can usually find what I need. It’s one of the few free standing K’s left they’re all pretty much Sears otherwise.

I agree, this place stinks. It’s too bad, really, because their prices aren’t bad. I just feel dirty walking in the door and can’t wait to get out of there.
They do have a Little Ceasar’s inside, though, which is why they get 2 stars instead of 1. Sometimes you just need some crazy bread.

Yes, KMart sucks. I went here out of desperation looking for a specific item. I did find a 3-​pack of Illini shirts for $ 24 which is the reason for the one star.
I stood in line with 11 other people waiting for the 1 cashier to ring up our stuff. They finally opened another lane and this girl was sooooo out of it, I felt like I was in one of those machines which slowed time down. She was so slow. Outrageously slow. Embarassingly slow. Maybe she had a hangover. Maybe she was trying to do the minimal amount of work. I don’t know but it was so painful.
I had my hopes up when KMart was acquired by the company who owns Sears and Lands End. It obvious from my visit that nothing has changed and I’ve even noticed a downward slide in the Customer Service from Lands End.
