Checker Cab Inc

A guest at my hotel called Checker cab and scheduled an 8:25am cab to state farm. The cab NEVER SHOWED UP! Just didn’t show up. The dispatcher said the cab was 7 minutes away. Then ten minutes late said the cab was one minute away. And then apparently the cab driver called my guest and said it was going to be another 10 minutes at 8:45. This is ridiculous. I have had noting but terrible experiences with Checker

Not worth my time or my money. What kind of business sense is this? It’s disgusting that people still feel like it is ok to be so outwardly hateful.

Aaron Halliday (the owner) is a racist and a sexist. He is profiting despite his beliefs and this should not be tolerated. Do not support those who believe that trans people should be ignored, that women should be raped, and that black people should be killed. Bring them out of business and keep Bloomington beautiful.

Don’t do it — not that you could if you wanted to. Unreliable and (as many others have commented) will not answer calls. And a more politically driven comment: signage outside S. Main location is unabashed in delivering their offensive politics. Use the force of your consumer dollars and do not support this company.

I would give this zero stars if I could. Checker Cab is lousy. If they were in a city that actually had heavy cab usage outside of trying to leave the bar at 2am, they’d be out of business in an instant. There cars are generally dirty inside and out and having a friendly driver is few and far between. Also at peak hours, they turn their phones off or just stop answering because the business isn’t run well enough to handle the business they receive.
Not only does checker cab blow as a cab business, they are also outwardly racist, homophobic, transphobic, anti women, etc, etc. They decide to show these views to the public on their sign outfront. So if you are a potential rider and your anything other than straight and white, good luck to you. I’d rather walk than use these scumbags.
Maybe Bloomington Normal will pull their head out of the sand and allow über to finally come in and put this miserable excuse for a cab company out of business.

The owner of this company has a sign in front of his business where he puts up statements on a weekly basis that reflect his racist and bigoted attitudes and opinions. People from the local Not In Our Town organization have protested in front of his business on Main Street about a sign that was negative to Obama and Palestinians. He did not think the sign was funny, but was just telling it like it is. You can look up news articles about this company. The owner posts similarly toned messages on people’s Facebook pages. The owner has said he and his drivers have received encouragement from their riders for putting up the racist and bigoted signs. So, if you feel comfortable with a company owner and its drivers who are not just against President Obama and the Clintons, but pretty much against everyone who doesn’t agree with their narrow, conservative viewpoints, then go ahead and ride with these guys. If this might make you uncomfortable, try a different service. Many hotels in town have vans that will pick you up from the airport or drive you somewhere else. Get a friend who will stay sober all night during your drinking. This company does not reflect the entire town (and many people are working hard so that the town has a diversity of opinions), but you should know that many people around here are tightly conservative and they are okay with that.

¹⁰⁄₁₀ makes best signs to get my business

Racist comments and jokes about rape on his sign in front of his business are not only rude, but not acceptable for a business in this town. I would absolutely not support Aaron Halliday’s Midstate Limo or either of his taxi services, Checker Cab or Yellow Cab.

I’ve been a very loyal customer to Checker cab. I’ve used checker since my sophomore year of college, when I started getting bad experience with other cab companies in town. Even after I graduated I still only use checker whenever I’m back. I even refers every friend that I have to use the company. However, the incident set of last Sunday (¹⁄₁₃) has totally changed my thoughts about the company.
First, I got complaints from my friends who had to wait hours to get the cab, and also sometime without knowing that it would take that long. I had to leave town on Sunday and was warned when trying to schedule a trip to Amtrak Station on that day. However, because of my past experience with Checker, I still gave the company benefit of the doubt.
My train was scheduled to leave at 5:56pm and I called to schedule a cab at around 3:00pm to pick me up at 5:20pm. But even until 5:30pm, I still did not receive any call nor see any cab waiting outside for me. So I decided to give them a call to check up. The female operator told me that my cab did not come because I cancelled the service myself (?!?) She then told me that the cab will turn around and pick me up shortly. Well, it was 5:55pm that the cab finally came and it was already too late for me. I missed my train and had to pay lots of money to reschedule another one, not to say that I have to wait for another 3 hours in town for that. I called back to complain and before I could say anything, the female operator just give me a sentence: «Oh so you’re cancelling?», then she dropped the call. Not even a single «Sorry».
I rode with the company owner’s once and I like her and the company so much that I stayed loyal until now. However, this incident has just set everything off. Tried to find an email address so I don’t have to write this public review, but all they have is just the phone number and I don’t want to talk to that female operator again. So here you go Checker. I’m gonna stick with Red Top next time I’m in town.

Grabbed a ride back to Normal from DT Bloomington, and our driver was pretty rude the entire trip. He also tried to go out of the way to run up the tab, and was very confrontational when someone called him out on it. Not many great cab companies on Blo-​No, but you can do better than this.

Terrible! Called for cab was told it would arrive in 30 minutes and I’d get a call from the driver when it arrived. Waited 45 minutes then called them back and was told they had been here and had called me (which had NOT happened as I was holding my phone the whole time). Was told it would be another 20 minutes. Forget it.

Gave it a 1 star for the horrible call centre personnel! The woman that answered the call was down right rude and obnoxious and didn’t know how to speak to customers !!
The service was delayed and she refused to listen to us when we informed her that the cab won’t be able to pick us up at the point she insisted we wait due to road blocks. Eventually we had to walk with all our luggage to the point we had told her to send the cab instead of where she insisted we wait!
On the bright side our cab driver was really nice so no complaints there.

I’m a student that doesn’t drive so I’ve had to rely on cabs for the better portion of my college days. I’ve found (most) drivers to be friendly. I request (& recommend) Austin — he’s timely, friendly, & knows the shortest routes!
Wait time varies with days/​times. I think they could use more vehicles/​drivers.
For a while, there were unpleasant dispatchers. They’ve gotten better.

Best cab service in Bloomington Normal!

This company is horrible. They will drop you off but turn off their phones and won’t take any calls when they are busy with college students downtown (10pm-​2am Th, Fri, Sat). They literally don’t answer the phone during these times and don’t take any calls, although they advertise being open 24 hr/​day.
