Gather: handmade shoppe & Co.: is a retail gift shop located in historic Fountain Square Mall on the south side of the square in Bloomington. We showcase emerging and independent handmade goods. We sell the independent work of more than 70 artists, crafters, and makers from the Midwest and beyond. The work represented in the store ranges from handmade and handcrafted jewelry to bath and body, kids’ toys and clothing to woodworking, illustration, knitted and crocheted work and much much more. Also offered in the space are workshops and classes to help create and foster our artistic community as well as a gallery space to exhibit emerging as well as well known artists in the area.

Gathering is about creating a community around art and the process of art — supporting the makers that create, and illustrating that creation.

History

Established in 2013.

Gathering began as a one-​day pop-​up shop in Feb of 2013. After nearly a dozen pop-​ups over the course of a year and a half, Gathering has grown up. In Sept of 2014 it grew into Gather: handmade shoppe & Co: with a permanent location in downtown Bloomington.

Talia H.

Business Owner

Talia started her own art business (Conduit Press) in 2009 and found her second family in the craft community. Wanting to spread the Love and truly be an art advocate in her community, she founded Gathering as a way to spread and promote handmade Love throughout Bloomington.

My 9 year old son and I chose awesome, unique gifts for 10 people on our holiday list in a single visit to Gather AND stayed on budget.
What a treasure trove of exceptional quality, handmade items! We’re so into Gather. You must give it a go for gifts for yourself and the people you like. Even on crazy Saturday-​before-​Christmas with a full store of shoppers, the vibe was mellow & welcoming.

Gathering is a pop-​up shop, and this Fountain Square Mall location closed after the holidays. However, it wasn’t the first and won’t be the last — it’ll just be in a new location. The shop was full of handmade items seemingly from around the Midwest and many even local. Items included jewelry, pottery, lip balm, t-​shirts, scarfs, posters, wallets, journals, toys, bibs, crayons, and more. They were a little light on items for men, as it typical for these types of stores. Still, I’d like to see them branch out a little. A great place to find gifts. Looking forward to the next iteration!

My experiences with the Gathering have been totally positive. I participated in the first Gathering, which took place in an artist’s home and in their most recent one at the Blueline Gallery. The first one was small and intimate and the most recent one was like a hip party, filled with music and lots of great art. It’s obvious that Talia and her team of volunteers have committed to making the Gathering the best handmade boutique in town, learning from each event and putting that knowledge to work by making each event bigger and better. Talia H., the founder of the Gathering is not only a talented and innovative craftsperson herself but she has a good head for the business end of things and she has an amazing ability for bringing together talented artists and craftspeople. I am proud to have been included with those invited to sell their wares and I’m looking forward to participating in the next event which I know will be the best Gathering yet!
