Louisville, KY
I was in Bloomington for the weekend — and this was by far the best bar I went to. The atmosphere is the bomb; it’s great for dancing, but also has the room for you to go off and sit.
In addition, the cocktails were insanely cheap. A cocktail is normally $ 9-​$ 12 in Louisville, KY — all my cocktails ranged from $ 5-​$ 7!
Such a great place to go overall — be sure to go if you’re visiting Bloomington!

It’s like hanging out in my high school boyfriend’s parents basement. Musty, crappy drinks, loud music. But hey, if you’re into that kinda thing then you’ll love it.

This bar is extremely unique! They have really great drinks, great prices, and a very friendly, fun atmosphere! There are little side rooms that offer space for casual conversation as well as an open dance area. I went here twice in one weekend.

Over priced drinks, really loud music, very dark, and the most bizarre people you will ever see. If that is what you like in a bar, then you will love the root cellar. If you like to have good drinks with friends AND be able to have a conversation with them, then avoid at all costs.

Quirky interior which is fantastic and a sketchy entrance but hands down the best cocktails I’ve had in town. They make their own mixes from scratch with fresh ingredients and the bartenders are extremely friendly.

Most of the bars and clubs in B-​town tend to make me feel out of place since I am no longer a college student. The Root Cellar on the other hand is great place to go to meet just about anyone. The place has a kind of vibe that you can’t get from no where else in Bloomington due to its catacombesq look and the ability to be able to leave that night having made new friends. I’ve never felt unwelcome here. I’m only leaving one star off due to the fact that the music can be too loud to hold a conversation with the person next to you.

First of all the place has a really weird vibe. Kind of creepy actually. The entrance is in the back of farm where they keep all of their old food. Staff wasn’t very friendly. Music selection wasn’t great and was very loud. They definitely need to work on this place before I come back again.

i loooooove the ambience at the root cellar!
the staff has always been awesome and the food and drinks are great — try the garlic fries or a pizza! drinks are a bit pricy but worth it, IMO.
i have now been to 2 murder mystery parties at the root cellar and they are soooooo much fun!!! they are well-​organized and provide a great way to meet new people. looking forward to many more!!!
