Went to this shop due to an issue where my overdrive would quit working and my transmission would overheat. They did there diagnostic, showed me pieces of internal tranny parts in the screen and said, «You need a new transmission» and«you won’t make it» to Arizona as I was passing through during my travels home. I couldn’t get a straight answer as to the cost other than it would start at $ 1800 and go up once they see what all more needs to get repaired once it’s opened up. This was too much of an expense and too many unknowns so I needed a second opinion. The 2nd shop told me it’s normal to have some transmission debris in the pan and they would replace some electrical components and the check line first before jumping to a bigger fix. $ 300 bucks later I was back on the road and just drove 1200 miles home with no more issues. Maybe Aamco’s business model is to simply go to the bigger fix since it will resolve any and all issues, but for me I always prefer a cheaper alternative.
