Gorant Candies

The one in Boardman on 224 beside dunkin donuts and Panera is great. The people are so nice. Helpful great sales.

Since I was in the Buckeye State, I figured I’d try some candy Buckeyes.
If you don’t know, this is a candy buckeye:
I phoned Gorant to make sure they had some in stock (my Aunt thought it might be a seasonal thing) and they were so nice on the phone also giving me prices and their hours of operation that day.
This shop is full of hand-​made chocolate confections and gifts. Stuffed animals and cute little trinkets. Methinks that if you are looking for something cute to go along with that box of chocolate you’re gifting, this is the perfect place to do some shopping.
Along with the Buckeyes, there are small truffles, caramels, fudge, turtles (although I don’t know if they call them turtles here). The chocolate case was so full of goodies that I cannot remember all of the things offered. Since I was in a time crunch I settled on a couple of boxes of Buckeyes and they tied them up with gold twine – so pretty!
As for me, I’m a sucker for good truffles so I bought some for myself. I honestly didn’t care for the candy buckeyes, the texture of the peanut butter was not creamy enough and it was too sweet for me. But the truffles were delicious – especially the dark chocolate.
Service was ever so sweet and and the gal that helped me out happened to be the one that makes the jumbo Buckeyes. They aren’t kidding when they say Jumbo – those thing were as big as softballs!
The prices can’t be beat either. I spent about 20bux for 3 small boxes of buckeyes and a small box of truffles. Not a bad deal for well-​made chocolate!

A friend of mine brought in some chocolate covered pretzels that were so good I made a trip here to get more.
They sell all kinds of homemade chocolates as well as offer fundraising, cards, and other novelties at their store.
When I stopped on a Saturday I was greeted by a nice woman and then was waited on by another woman who prepared my box of chocolates. She seemed upset that I was taking my time picking stuff out and at one point noted that the «chocolates are labeled». This is the only reason why this place doesn’t get five stars. Unhappy associate who doesn’t want to help? Minus one Unilocal Star!
They had a nice sale rack by the register and the person who checked me out told me all about the pecans they use in their chocolates.

Gorant’s is the best! I was lucky enough to grow up in Lordstown, Ohio, and have enjoyed Gorant’s since the 1970s. Now that I live in the Toledo area, I am very fortunate to have a candy store here that sells Gorants (along with other favorites from across the country so that everyone can find something they loved in the past). My favorite Gorant candy is the sponge, the graham crackers, the nougat bars, the key lime creams, the Millcreek assortment… ah, heck… it’s all wonderful! So many great memories of their fabulous Easter candies… I would call up a store, have them make up a huge basket for my parents (who each owned 32 sweet teeth). Anyway, you can’t go wrong with Gorant!

My absolute favorite gift from my relatives back east. It’s hard to beat Hershey’s milk chocolate especially for the nostalgia factor, but I think Gorant does just that. Their pretzel crunch, maple crème, and vanilla cremes are wonderful. Ohioans are fortunate to have goodies such as these.
