History

Established in 1977.

Boerne Veterinary Clinic was opened by Dr. Ray Smart DVM in 1977. The old Boerne Locker Plant and Market was converted to a full service veterinary clinic with 2 exam rooms, surgery suite, and hospitalization for companion animals. Dr. Steve Rapp DVM purchased the clinic in April of 2002 from Dr. Lee Carriker, DVM. The practice has tripled in size since that purchase. In the summer of 2011, Dr. Rapp with the help of his wife Laura renovated the building into a facility that is more respectful of Boerne architecture. This includes 3 exam rooms, an updated surgery, and more office space. The waiting room is charmingly decorated using antique church pews for seating.

Business Owner

Dr. Steve Rapp was born in the small North Texas town of Chillicothe. He grew up on a farm/​ranch in the community of Farmers Valley. As a young boy working with his father on the farm, Steve became interested in agriculture and livestock. He pursued those interests after high school studying Animal Sciences at Texas A&M in College Station. There he received his masters degree in Animal Sciences-​Meat Sciences and Chemistry, where he did the original studies in vacuum packing. After that he applied to the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M and graduated in 1976.

Steve is happily married to Laura Mijangos-​Rapp. The couple have a blended family of 5 children and four lovely grand-​children. He enjoys many hobbies, such as Muscle cars, building metal frames for Laura’s art, yard work, and managing the family farms he grew up in. Dr. Rapp loves veterinary practice and the association with his clients while serving them as a local veterinarian in Boerne, Texas.

Dr. Rapp is by far, the best vet we’ve ever had. He is friendly and personable and genuinely cares about our pets. Dr. Rapp’s first priority is the animals health. He will do whatever it takes to get to the root cause of a problem. Unlike other Vets who have assumed something was wrong, without doing the work to make sure they are treating the right thing! Dr. Rapp made time for us even though he had an office full of patients waiting, and ensured we got the attention that our dogs needed. They even called us to follow up on the treatment, and to see how the dogs were feeling. I am so grateful that he is a part of our lives!

My critters have been Dr Rapp’s patients for several years. I’ve never had a more caring, competent vet. All the staff are great. We began w/​them because my previous vet’s office consistently ‘padded’ the bill… Doesn’t happen here. When my beloved old kitty had to be euthanized – heartbreak – they couldn’t have been kinder.

Dr. Rapp has been our family vet since 2008. He and the girls are wonderful and know all of my 6 dogs by name. We own bulldogs, which are very prone to health issues, so it seems we are in there at least once every other week. He could bleed us dry with all the visits and issues we have but I know he is beyond gracious with the prices he gives us. My main praise is in the treatment we have received for our little girl Stella, a French Bulldog. Stella was born from my older French bulldog female and right out of the gate had major health issues. She was born with hydrocephalus and really should not have lived past the first 48 hours. We brought her in when she was 2 days old with brain swelling and he shook his head, gave her an injection and sent us home to be «comfortable». I was resigned to the fact that we were going to lose her and that there was nothing to be done. Later that day Dr. Rapp called saying he just «couldn’t let it go» and had spent the afternoon researching different treatments and wanted to at least try to do something. We were there every day for almost two weeks getting special injections and other treatments (she weighed only a few ounces and he was able to find veins on her tiny little body!). She is now 8 months old and has no more swelling. She has continued to be a «special needs» puppy, and a frequent patient at the clinic, but she is the joy of our family and I cannot thank Dr. Rapp and the girls for never giving up on us, or her. They truly care about us and our dogs. We will never go anywhere else with our pets!

Dr. Rapp is far and away the best vet we’ve ever had. He is friendly and personable and really, really cares about our pets. Earlier this year, our dog became injured and Dr. Rapp made time for us even though it meant he had to stay late the day before he went on vacation. Then, to top it all off, he actually called us while he was on vacation to see how she was doing. Until that day, I had believed that kind of dedication was extinct.
