When I first rented the car for a full day I drove it back and smelled a rat.
I was right. In fact there was a rat under the hood that had died there and smelled up the car so bad, every time I opened the drivers door I wanted to vomit.
After sometime I kept using them and began getting some outrageous bills like $ 789.00 a month.
Just yesterday I changed my credit card number. Seems like Carpingo is OUT OF BUSINESS.

The only good thing about them are that they are cheaper than other carshares, but just as cheap as it is, so are the condition of the cars and the poor customer service the business has! The cars always smell and are dirty (especially the ones located at ebberts field).
You have to watch your statements when they email you, because they pack so many fees and charges onto your account and unless you remember what you did during the rental, they will try to make you accountable. For example: I rented the car for someone’s going away dinner in Brooklyn for 4 hrs, then weeks later a get a bill stating I went through a toll and had the car for a day! I’m still fighting with customer service now, because I did not even leave brooklyn nor had the car long then the 4 hrs!
You just have to be real careful with them, but otherwise, I would suggest another carshare program

Well this will be a honest review of course from a current user.
Definitely cheaper than zipcar or car rental company in NYC. If you have a choice, go to NJ and book a cheaper on if you can in Rutherford. Why is it lowly rated on my list? Well I just got a «I need a car right now moment» over the weekend and head my way to AC. Thinking I might drive over 180 mile limit so I booked for 1 day and a little over with 360 miles limits which is pretty smart on my side. However, they probably don’t see it this way after I get my bill. BE REALLY REALLY REALLY good at keeping your emails document and reservation time; otherwise you are on the loser end.
On my final bill my reservation time was changed to 2 hours ahead of my actual reservation and billed for late fee as well as mile overage. Seriously dude, it’s not worth it to scam your customer. I did pay with american express you know. good luck dealing this scam with my card company. I was charge a fee for return a car early??? seriously man. I am going to cry. They also charge something call a rental tax as well as a sales tax? WTF I am not sure if that’s real or not but I am going to find out and lite their ass on fire if it’s not.
Well so far, I see similar things at zipcar reviews but hey, i guess everyone’s is trying to make a few $$. but my friend at carpingo, long term customer equals long term gain. be honest and be friendly and don’t scam your awesome customers.
Definitely check the car before you get in because there will be dent and marks as well as take pictures before you head out. If it’s dark, take the pictures too. You can delete them after you FINAL FINAL FINAL bill because they will give you so many revisions. I am on my second one now. It’s scary and hope I win with their billing department.
