I decided to try this place for the first time on my birthday with my girlfriend. The food was decent but the service was awful. We all know it’s a little confusing figuring out the flow of a new restaurant and mistakes can happen on the customers part. Me and my girlfriend were going through the line and the lady just said«bread?» to my girlfriend who was a little confused being her first time there, so she stood there for maybe three seconds in her confusion and instead of politely explaining would you like a piece of cornbread, biscuit etc. He rudely decided to role his hand at her and and impatiently snapped a reply at her telling her the options like we were taking up too much of his precious time. I honestly felt like I was back in elementary school getting scolded for taking a second too long. So instead of treating us like a customer we were treated like we were no better than garbage laying on the floor. I would have walked out of we hadn’t already payed for our meal.

Amazing breakfast. Crowded on game days. Pork tenderloin and gravy biscuit for the win. Homemade sausage is great too.

Wow! I use to eat at this place once a week and the food use to be so good! Boy have things changed! What happened!!! The green beans were unseasoned and disgusting! My meal consisted of stuffed chicken, sweet potatoes, and green beans. And banana puddin. The only thing worth eating was the banana pudding. Bring back your old cook!

Heard about this hidden treasure for awhile and finally found time to go today. People were nice folks. Food was great! They were packed with people — bless their hearts — they were so covered up with guests they couldn’t bus the tables fast enough so more could sit! Try the sausage!

I had breakfast here based on some of the other recommendations I read here on Unilocal and wasn’t disappointed, but I do not see anything special about this place. I like to support local businesses and avoid chain restaurants, and this fit the bill in that regard. This place serves food cafeteria style and I didn’t have any problems with the food. The scrambled eggs were prepared well, a little moist and not too well cooked. The sausage and potatoes were also very good, though I didn’t see anything special about the biscuit and have had better elsewhere. The coffee, though, was on the extremely weak side, so don’t plan on a strong cup of coffee if you go here. I like their hours and the fact that they open at 6AM for those who are making an early start. I would recommend this place for breakfast and would definitely go again if I’m in the area, but I just don’t see enough here to give more than 3 stars.

When I can, I try to eat local. But honestly the breakfast places in Athens leave me wanting. Stricklands is a local place that has the personality of a high school cafeteria mixed with a dirty gas station. I’ll say that the food was good. But not good enough to look past the greasy trays, dirty tables, institutional furniture.

Hands down the best breakfast I had in Athens and may be the best breakfast I have ever had. If you want a traditional breakfast and aren’t worried about calories or cholesterol this is the place to be. Will definitely be back on my next trip to Athens.

Sometimes a big, buttery biscuit with a prodigious piece of meat on it is just what the doctor ordered, you know? Strickland’s does not disappoint. I was recently looking for a place to get a few minutes of quiet respite from the rain, and a kind gas-station cashier recommended this place. I’m glad she did. Strickland’s is one of those fine, old, family-run, Athens traditions. This is pure Southern goodness: home-made eggs, meat, biscuits, gravy, lunchtime-sandwiches and other daily-made entrees with veggies.(The lunch menu changes daily.) The food will definitely stick to your ribs. And it is delicious in all it’s Southern glory. And there’s really not much else I can add, except to say: Holler if you want some company.
