The majority of our breads are made with 100% fresh ground whole grain wheat flour milled on a stone mill right in our bakeries every morning. We use pure and simple ingredients just like you would baking at home. This not only tastes SO much better than mass produced grocery store bread, but is better for you.
Prices are very reasonable considering the quality of ingredients, heavier loaf weight and the hot out of the oven fresh factor.
We only use local honey (from a producer in Emmett, ID) or molasses to sweeten our breads. NO Corn Sweeteners, preservatives or dough conditioners.
We are locally owned and operated and choose to buy and hire locally as much as possible.
Serving Boise for over 25 years!
History
Established in 1982.
Great Harvest Bread has been baking whole grain breads since the 70’s long before it was trendy. Founders, Pete & Laura Wakeman opened their first bakery in Great Falls, MT. Word spread fast about their uniquely flavorful bread made with pure-and-simple ingredients and wheat purchased from local farmers. It didn’t take long before neighbors asked about starting up their own Great Harvest. In 1978, the franchise was born. Slowly and organically, Great Harvest began to grow into the nation’s first family of independently owned and operated whole grain bread bakeries. Authenticity, a spirit of camaraderie and individuality remain the foundation of the organization. in 1982, Peggy & Paul opened the Boise bakery at its current location, 5608 Fairview Avenue. In 2007, Zach & Mallari purchased the Boise bakery and continue to own and operate the store at its original location today. The owners are very involved in the daily operations of the bakery. Next time you’re in, introduce yourself!
