I have sat in many business meetings with James Jacobson and he has helped me on the formation of my business from start to finish. I have appreciated his expertise and understanding of the law, especially when I have questions. He takes the time required to answer my questions in English, not in «legalese» without making me feel like an idiot. I also have recommended him to my sister in her ongoing custody battles as she deals with the fallout from her divorce. A+. Thanks James!

It started out well enough but in the end, I really feel like I was ripped off.
I contacted them through my EAP service to get a quote for a temporary conservatorship for a parent in that area who was/​is having some mental challenges — they called the next day for my free consultation. Nice enough conversation and gave me the information I needed to make a decision.
Gave me a quote of «somewhere around $ 1200-​$ 1400» for everything, with a required $ 1,000 retainer. About a week later, I paid the retainer and emailed them all of the information I had including names of people to contact for validation/​investigation. This was not an easy decision to make — hence the delay.
They contacted two people on my list of 5 and only talked to one. After they spoke with that one person nearly two weeks later and contacted me with the information that was relayed, it was determined that it wouldn’t be worth all of the time, money and effort to move forward and I requested to just cancel the entire process and send back the remaining funds from the retainer. (They had already billed me once for $ 129.50 for reviewing my emails and ‘gathering information’. I thought that amount reflected the work that was done, so no complaints there). I requested it just be refunded back to the card that I gave and also requested another statement.
I waited an entire month, still nothing — no statement, no refund and now being charged interest on the money that should have been refunded to my card. Emailed and was told that the billing hadn’t been done yet and that it should be done within the week. Waited another two weeks, still nothing. Emailed AGAIN and was told that it was put in the mail and must have been «lost» and that they would issue another check and could I verify my mailing address (I did — and they already had the correct one).
Today 11÷27÷15, almost two months later after requesting the initial refund I get a check and «statement». I have been billed another $ 629 and there are no line items on my statement showing what work this was billed against. There is an invoice dated 11÷5÷2015 which was well after I requested cancellation on October 8^th shown on this «statement» that I didn’t even receive even though I requested one on the 8^th of OCTOBER). I emailed them to ask for an itemized statement and received a nasty reply, basically stating I shouldn’t be questioning their «valuable time». Excuse me, my time is valuable too and it takes me many hours of it to work the necessary time to pay that kind of money out for getting nothing in return. Dealing with a mentally challenging parent is bad enough but then to be insulted by someone who thinks their time is somehow more meaningful than their clients’ is down right rude and uncalled for.
Update 12÷1÷15: upon discovering an unfavorable review, they finally send a statement today that still isn’t itemized! An email stating the «billing stands» — with no itemized statement, still warrants this «standing» one star review. I received a one line item statement for October 1 two months later when both people that were called were called after that Oct 1 date and one not even spoken to so I feel my questions are justified.
