Shu’s Idaho Running Company

I struggle with this review so I guess I’ll tell the story in hopes that there is an internal pep talk. I bought my wife a gift certificate last year and when she went in the young staff wasn’t the most helpful. I was hoping that they would use the pressure gizmo to show how she stands and walks so that she could get the best shoe (she’s an aerobics queen goes through shoes every 3 – 4 months). Showed her two shoes, she bought one and left. We had some money left over and I went in burn it up and get some insoles where I met Mike. Excellent service, put me on the gizmo, had a nice talk about shoes. So I go home all excited and tell my wife, lets go in and get Mike to help us. So here’s where the story gets weird. I called to see if Mike was working and I get a young sounding voice that says «We can’t give you that information and we all do good work here». Needless to say we bought our shoes someplace else.

This morning I stopped by to get some shoes. Mike was the gentleman I worked with this morning. Extremely knowledgeable about all of the shoes he has in Stock as well as the many facets of the design itself. Mike was more than willing to bring out several pairs of shoes for me to try on finding the best fit for not only walking running everything but the best fit for my feet. Great attitude absolutely awesome person to work with. I will definitely be going back to Shu’s for my next purchases. Also they have a great incentive by 5 pairs of shoes get the 6^th ½ off. That may not seem like much but that’s an awesome deal because most places want you to buy 10 of something first it’s a pretty awesome deal. I have been a customer of Shu’s for about 10 years. In the past, I’ve always received outstanding customer service and care. This last experience left me literally debilitated. I normally get a Brooks Ghost shoe that I work out in and play tennis in. The reps have always been so knowledgeable when a shoe has changed or when they think I might try a better shoe. This last time they fitted me for a Brooks Ghost shoe, seemed in a hurry, and the result was awful. I worked out in the new shoe for about 20 minutes until my plantar and my ankle hurt so bad, I couldn’t walk. I hadn’t previously been in pain. When I put this new shoe next to the old one, the insole part of the bottom was between ¼ and ½ inch higher than my other old shoe. For a person with plantar fasciitis, this can be devastating for one’s arch. It literally was for me. I immediately returned the shoe for another, but the damage had already been done. I’ve spent the past three weeks not being able to work out, being in pain, having to rest the foot a lot, and resenting that Shu’s either didn’t know the shoe had changed or didn’t care. I believe they had the information about my plantar fasciitis in the computer. The people who waited on me didn’t seem to really understand the fitting of a shoe either. I am going to look elsewhere in the future for workout shoes. I was willing to pay a little more and get a better fit at Shu’s, but that is no longer the case.

Had a good experience today at Shu’s…was helped by Shu himself. I’m not particularly hard to fit (no extreme pronation or dimensional irregularities), nor do I require a lot of specialized performance from my footwear, but if I did, I’d trust this place to find the right shoe for me. Despite my standard-​issue feet and requirements, Shu asked me plenty of questions, analyzed my walking and standing on the foot-​analysis machine, and allowed/​encouraged me to take a few different shoes for a spin. I made my choice, got laced into my new shoes, was rung up by another friendly worker and was on my merry way. Thanks!

Excellent customer service from the moment you walk into the door. Friendly, EXTREMELY knowledgeable staff make for a good shopping experience. Whether you’re a seasoned marathoner, weekend jogger or walker, or just want a pair of great socks or other fitness accessories Shu’s has it going on. They also do a lot to benefit the community.

It’s all about customer service and Shu’s wrote the book. I have hard to fit feet… so, appreciate the time they take to help me find a good fitting shoe that I like and want to wear! They seem to always be busy, a sign that they know what they’re doing. I highly recommend Shu’s.

This was my first time here and it was the best experience that I’ve ever had buying shoes. First they spent ample time discussing my feet, what I like don’t like and what my goals. I tried on more than five pairs and ran outside with all of them. This was the most thorough associate ever and I’m very confident with the shoes I left with. Thanks Shu, s!

I am glad that I went here for my most recent pair of shoes. They were busy, but attentive. First they assessed my feet on their computer, and then I test drove a few different shoes before I settled on a pair. I’ll be back!

This is the best running store I have ever seen. As others note, they measure and study your foot, understand your gait electronically. Then they allow you to REALLY TRY the shoes before buying. Important? You bet. Sadly, they are not local to me, so I tried a pretend running store in my town in eastern Idaho. Result? Trashed knees and strained ankles from walking on these ridiculously over padded shoes. They didn’t listen to my orthopedic history. I will be back to Shu’s as soon as I am able! This is the ONLY place in Idaho that is even SAFE to buy athletic shoes!

I don’t know how these guys don’t have a 5 star rating!!! They are amazing! I am a regular, middle aged mom who runs/​exercises to decompress and eat :) When you go in they will have you walk across this pad that will comunicate with the computer and then tell them where your pressure points are, etc. Then they will tell you exactly what shoe (s) they would recommend for your feet! Amazing! And that service is free! They have a great selection and can order for you if they don’t have what you are looking for. They always have some sort of promotion with coupons or can-​food drives. If you don’t like the shoes you purchased, you can return them with-​in 30 days to exchange them. You can run 100 miles in them and still return them! I will exclusively buy my shoes from them!

Awesome experience! they definitely have our business. A place where they actually sold us a shoe that worked and gave us accurate advice on what would work for us. I really enjoyed how they went the extra mile to find the show that fit for us and our lifestyle.

Just got back from Shu’s and walked in planning on just to browse around. I was immediatly welcomed by one of the sales representatives. I did not get her name but she had short blonde hair. anyhow she measured my foot first. Then I was put on a machine that measured my balance and the pressure points in my foot. I was then escorted back to sit down while she ran back to get me a selection of shoes. Now I know when I normally get shoes I have to pick them out myself and then flag someone down so this was a nice change. I walked around OUTSIDE in the shoes which was interesting but makes sense to feel out my shoes (no I did not run I was not dressed for it but I could have). We found the perfect shoe and now I am excited to start back running again without the fear of hurting my shins… oh and they have a 30 day refund period but I doubt I will have to take them back… great customer service and friendly atmosphere thank you :)

Shu’s is great!
No where else do they tell you to go out and run around the block in their brand new shoes until you are sure you are happy with them.
They have a great selection, new exciting stuff like Newtons as well as the tried and true New Balance and Asics.
Last time I was in I spent over an hour running in different shoes. I tried on over six pairs and ran outside in all of them. The sales people are great and never try to rush me into a decision.
The return policy is awesome! If you aren’t happy with your shoes, it’s definitely not their fault.
The only thing that would make it better would be a treadmill and some video gait analysis by the staff. They have a machine to step on to get an idea, but a true video analysis can be really helpful.
