Carne Asada Burrito is the King here! People travel all throughout the Country to get their Carne Asada Burrito. We have never had a better one in the United States of America. Cortez is a small little family owned restaurant. Little ambience, GREATFOOD!

Pretty decent Mexican food. I really liked the chicken fajitas burrito. The prices are a bit high but it’s not expensive considering that it’s basically the only fast Mexican food place around. The restaurant itself could use some major renovations. It’s okay if you are just being lazy on a Sunday evening and you don’t want to cook, it’ll be enough for that but if you’re looking for a nice Mexican meal… look elsewhere.

This was my first visit to this place. I ordered the two beef taco combo plate. I told the cashier«easy lettuce» which means a very small amount of lettuce. I asked for«double beans no rice» and I paid over $ 8.00 for my order, which is WAYOVERPRICED. They charged 50 cents for using a credit card(there was no sign saying there was an extra charge at the cash register where you pay). I got my order to-go because I had to get going. When I opened the food container at my house, I was very disappointed. The«double beans» were a very small portion, and my «easy lettuce» was a lot of lettuce and there was hardly any beef. I was starving at the time, but I didn’t eat the two taco combo because I had to take it back to Cortez. When I took it back and told them the problems, the cashier was expression-less(no smile, no facial reaction) and she didn’t apologize for the huge inconvenience I had to go through with the whole situation. I forgot to mention that I’m very disabled with a walker. She literally acted like she hated her job and I was an inconvenience. On top of everything, I asked if they could remake my order with easy lettuce and more beef, and she cut me off and said«the meat is already pre-proportioned before you order.» WHAT??? AREYOUKIDDINGME??? I worked in the restaurant industry for 12 years and considering this is a fast food/take-out place, pre-proportioning the beef for tacos is beyond ridiculous. They act as if they’re Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. PLEASE. I had to give this place one star to post this review, but this place deserves ZERO stars. Terrible customer service and it’s also extremely warm inside the establishment. They don’t have A/C which is fine, but they don’t even have fans to circulate the hot air. I’ll make sure I tell my friends and family how bad this place is(I have many friends and family who live in the area).

There’s really not much in the area when it come to fast Mexican food. So straight to the point the prices are okay, the food is alright, the size of the burritos could be bigger and the hot sauce isn’t that hot. There is tons of indoor seating and a few tables outside where a lot of people eat on. This place has been here for years and they really don’t have any competition. There are some cool things like the few arcade games like Mortal Combat which is classic along with some other games. There are 2 dining rooms and they accept debit for a small fee so don’t forget to bring your cash. Its open early and closes late which is always great in book. I will be back again because I don’t want to drive all the way to Vista for a decent California burrito. So yes I’ll be checking in a lot.

food was super bland and way over priced. It was not cheap by any means, we ordered two taco plate, chimichanga plate, churrizo, and a bean and cheese burrito and it was almost 40 bucks! The staff was nice, but the food is not worth the price. I have no desire to return, very dissapointed

I’ve been coming here over the last couple of years. They have been pretty consistent with the food. The service is usually quick as well as expediting of the food. We’ve tried the rolled beef tacos, cheese quesadilla, fish taco, carne asada burrito combos and hibiscus drink. All of these have been very good. The restaurant is well kept, and condiments well stocked. I will be a returning customer. ** Indoor/Outdoor seating**

Went for a California burrito upon recommendation from a friend. However, the owner was very abrupt and rude. In addition to this, the business seems too stringent as the(cheap to make) red sauce is barred in a staff fridge rather than in conjunction with a salsa bar and is only available if asked(not included unlike other shops). Finally the burrito I had was sub-par and a poor value(as the amount is disgraceful, especially compared to other places). Overall a poor experience and a waste of my $ 6. Will not eat here again.

I tried to give this place a chance twice both times very disappointed. The first time I got a burrito and what I got was so small it was closer to a $ 6 dollar rolled taco not to mention bland and boring. At this time I pledged to never eat there again. Well tonight against my better judgement I thought I would give them another chance thinking maybe it was just an off night the first time I went there. Boy was I wrong I went for the SUPERFRIES and they could not be further from super they were terrible and very overpriced for what you get. Bland and boring the guacamole was from Costco which is blasphemy seeing as it’s neighbor is Fallbrook the avocado capital of the world. Small portions half of what you would get from Robertito’s in Fallbrook or even Rigoberto’s in San Marcos. In fact I would say this is the worst Mexican food I have ever had I would of been better off going to Taco Bell for fake Mexican food. Never again will I give this place my money it may be alright for the drunks in Ringers the bar next door but for sober people this food is garbage. Lastly don’t go in without cash either as they like to tack on an extra .50 cents for using a credit or debit card. In summary the food is terrible, bland, small portions and overpriced. MYADVICESTAYAWAYFROMTHISPLACELIKEITHASEBOLA! PS. DONOTBELIEVETHEGOODREVIEWSFORTHISPLACE for anyone to say the food here is good either has no taste buds or never had Mexican food before this place is worse than Taco Bell…

Got the carnitas burrito with no guac, add beans, cheese, and rice. The burrito was a good size; not gigantic like a lot of places. The carnitas was pretty dry. Good, but not the succulent, fatty goodness I’m used to. Would come back again and try something else. Good cheap Mexican food, but nothing special.

Ordered a chicken fajita burrito. More like chicken tendons and fat burrito. Indifferent staff not welcoming whatsoever. A few arcade games. Apparently this restaurant needs a visit from that Ramsey chef

We ordered the asada torta, 3 rolled tacos with guacamole and al pastor taco. The fried tacos were good, filled with meat. The Guajillo sauce was a little watered down, but overall, it satisfied the taco craving. The al pastor meat had the best flavor overall, and the taco was big… i made two from one.

Had a burrito and quesadilla here a year or two ago. Bland city. Hot sauce was watery and weak. It’s on the highway 76 and is convenient, but many better options can be had within 5 miles of the place in Oceanside or Vista.

This place is bomb. I’ve had my range of Mexican food: Norcal, LA, SD, and this is definitely an awesome place. I got their carne asada burrito– I think what I love about it most is actually the tortilla it’s made in. It’s so chewy, and thick, and so good when served hot. Not too bad when microwaved too. Comes in lots of guacamole! PS: Also get their horchata. Made fresh! None of that powdered stuff filtered through the machine.

The California Burrito is HANDSDOWN the best burrito I will ever have in my entire life!!! All the guys that work there are very nice(we went to high school together) I just can’t believe how good the CA burrito is every single time I have it! But everything is very good, I used to stop in there all the time on my way to or from school just for something quick to eat or a meal! It’s definitely worth giving it a try, and you will be amazed. Plus, one time I put a quarter in for a bouncy ball and I got like 20! And they have a JUKEBOX! How awesome is that! And some arcade games to keep some kids busy! It’s definitely a cool place!!!

Garb — age… This place is a joke, it is American«Mexican». Unfortunately I live nearby, and was excited to go to this place. Nobody is ever there, so I was a little bit leery. and I ordered the Carnitas plate. I waited about 20 Minutes, when my order came up it was about 100 individual cut up pieces of pork shoulder which is hard and dense, it was about a half inch by half inch cubed meat, then deep fried to beyond crispy. Carniatas is butt, slowed cooked. shredded pork marinated. The crap they gave me was junk, no marinade. small pieces of deep fried garbage. I cannot believe this place is still in business. Waiting for it to close, or for them to put up the banner. under new management. Tekila, the new place down the street is great. REAL Mexican food.
