Delicious food and interesting atmosphere. My favorite place to eat in Bordentown. Great for an afternoon snack.

INSEARCHOF a new place for coffee… It has been a year or so and still miss this place. I’m curious if anyone has visited anywhere that can compare to this place for coffee that they would be so kind as to share a recommendation or few

Shout out to lot the Unilocal community for making this recommendation! Bordentown seems very small town-ish from the quaint shops to the seemingly personal relationships people seemed to have. The restaurant followed this same vibe as this was definitely some of the best service I’ve had. An added plus is what turned out to be great food. We brought some alcohol to go along with brunch as it’s BYO. I went with the vegetable Empanada and a sandwich which consisted of tofu in between two green plantain and a salsa sauce to with it. The Empanada were absolutely delicious. Never thought a veggie Empanada would be that good, but it was absolutely a candidate for one of the best ever. The tofu sandwich(which I was skeptical about) also was delicious. Between the salsa sauce and the plantain, it really gave the sandwich a very unique taste that was enjoyable. I mentioned that I was allergic to mango(which was in the salsa) and they immediately took my sandwich back to the kitchen and made another one with no mango without me even having to ask. They won me over at this point just from the fact that they did it with a smile and couldn’t have been more polite. This place is great and serves delicious food, not much else that needs to be said.

Stopped here for early dinner one weekend last month. The weather was nice so we sat in the back which was beautiful. I have to say the food is really delicious and probably the most authentic in the area. The problem here lies in the pricing paired with the portion size. I understand traditional dishes such as these when served upscale are of a smaller portion size, but we’re talkin about $ 20 and up entrees on an appetizer plate. Tapas night on Fridays sound delicious but I can only imagine the size of the tapas if their food is already practically bite sized. My other qualm, I have had some delicious chai there that I’ve tried to go back for with friends on 2 different occasions. Both times I was rejected as they are not open 7 days and generally not open very late for after dinner coffee. I also think, for a coffeehouse, it could be a tad more inviting for those looking for a casual stop. In any case the food was so good I can’t take all credit away, but these are the reasons I might think twice when reviewing what to eat on the weekend in btown city.

Best Latin food in NJ. Very classy place. Portions are small, which I like. The pernil is the best I have ever had.

My boyfriend and I went there for Valentine’s Day dinner. When we made the reservations, they didn’t mention there was a prix fixe menu only. So when we came in, we were surprised but decided to go along with it. I’m sorry to say we were ready to get up and leave after one hour when all we’d been served was 2 very sweet, very tiny surprise treats and a soup that was very tiny. They lost our salad order, and it took 30 mins to get it; there were only 2 salad options available. Every course was tiny, and about 20 mins between each one so we were absolutely famished after we’d eat the few bites we were given per course. When they finally brought out the main course more than 90 minutes later, mine was completely wrong. They quickly fixed it after 15 minutes but we were very frustrated. And let me tell you, the restaurant was not that crowded at all. When the dessert came(the flan), it was delicious but exactly the size of one bite. While the food is delicious, the service took forever and the dinner was not worth the price at all as the portions were tiny. I love the look of the rest of the menu but won’t return because they seem to not know what they’re doing.

Breakfast was very good. The French toast with home made bread was delicious, So was the breakfast sandwich. Coffee was also exceptional. Prices were very reasonable. We liked breakfast so much, we came back for lunch several days later. However, lunch was not quite as impressive. I got the jiboritos which sounded really good in the menu but were kind of lacking in the flavor department. They weren’t bad but I expected the pork to have a stronger flavored marinade. I also expected to be able to taste more of the cilantro salsa, as I love cilantro, but i was barely able to taste it. My wife got the pulled pork media noche. Same deal, pork was kind of standard, not much flavor. The bread was good. The garlic sauce lacked flavor a bit. All in all, lunch was decent, but kind of a let down, given how good breakfast was.

Man, NJ Transit never let’s you forget what state you’re in! Got kicked off the Light Rail in Bordentown(a place I had never heard of), to wait for a bus to the next light rail stop. My headphones were on blast so I don’t wen actually know the reason. But I digress. Infuriated with the wait for the bus(over 10min at this point), I Unilocaled for coffee. Beanwood popped up and I embarked on the 2 block walk to calm myself with some rich brewed goodness. And rich brewed goodness did I find! The place is a full on restaurant but I had no time for a meal as my ride was now picking me up from here instead of Burlington(2 stops away). So I just ordered a caramel latte. I asked how many shots they put in it – 3 – was asked if it was too much. Ha! I almost asked for another, just to show them how hardcore I am. But I just decided to be honest and say that it was actually perfect for me. Most people were eating in the outdoor space so there wasn’t any wait at the counter. The latte was delicious! I added a little sugar(out of habit) before tasting… totally didn’t need it, as the syrup had already done the trick. The coffee is pretty smooth, though it still had that espresso bitterness I’m used to. I don’t foresee myself being in Bordentown EVER again, but if I am, I will definitely be stopping in here for a meal(hopefully it’ll be nice enough to partake of the back deck).

I love this restaurant and visit it every week for their simple, yet amazing breakfast menu. The French toast is awesome. The sandwiches are crafted well. The breakfast meats are tasty and fresh. AND the chocolate milk is AMAZING! The reason for three stars is the inconsistency in their morning hours. I have scheduled breakfast meetings on more than one occasion only to find the restaurant closed.(Even though the posted hours said they should be open.) The food is wonderful, but I would check and make sure they are open before you head their way.

Love the tostones. I get an order every time. The patio outback is awsome in the nice weather and the owners are all very friendly and personally interact with the customers. Loved going to tapas night!

Stopped in a couple of weeks back during the car show. I hope they’re better at making coffee than dinner. The bread was actually the high point of the meal. Somewhat sweet and with a nice oil to dip it. The appetizers were all completely devoid of much flavor or spice. Empanadas were the best, but nothing to rave about. My entrée was pulled pork. Moist and again, not very flavorful. My lady had a fish entrée that was really quite bland. Service was good, but the empty restaurant should have been a clue that all wasn’t right. There’s plenty of really good restaurants right on the block. Avoid this one and have a decent meal.

Beanwood is a hidden gem in Bordentown. This quaint little homey spot has amble seating and a newly renovated backyard patio perfect for warm days. The staff is beyond friendly and personable. Primarily looked at as a coffee shop — which isn’t a bad thing, they serve NJ local roaster Small World coffee and do a great job with their preparations. In the summer there’s nothing better then their French-Pressed iced coffee. However, their Latin flavored menu is fantastic. I’ve eaten here a few times and have been thoroughly impressed each time. Their empanadas are delicious and I could have licked the plate of braised pork clean had I been alone. The real treat was their weekly tapas night. We went with a group of four and were stuffed by the 2nd to last course. They change up the menu often so you’re not gong to get the exact same prefixed meal. I highly recommend their tapas and they have been teasing a paella night which would rule. Bottom Line: Beanwood is way more then a great local coffee shop. Their food, atmosphere, friendly staff makes for an exceptional place to frequent. Do yourself a favor and give them a try if you’re in the area.

We went last Friday for Tapas night — It was out of this world! The two chefs Elizabeth Acevedo and Pedro Gomez can cook. I used to think Toscano’s was the best restaurant in Bordentown — but now — maybe this one is just as good — or even better. You have to try it for yourself.

We had a reservation here last Friday but a storm named Sandy postponed us to last night. We had heard that the Friday Tapas night was special and after our meal last night I fully agree. The two talented owner chefs Elizabeth Acevedo and Pedro Gomez can turn out some fantastic dishes that are both artfully plated and delicious. The Friday night Tapas menu is a series of diversified small bites that show the range of the kitchen. Here is the list of what we had with a description. For $ 35.00 per person, this is excellent value. Bring your favorite wine or brew, sit back relax and get ready for a real treat. This is a local coffee house during the day serving breakfast and lunch(which I’m told is excellent), weekend nights is when the tablecloths come out, candles on the table and transformation to upscale restaurant. We were told that paella night(Saturdays) is in the planning stage, can’t wait! GUACAMOLECONPLATANO — Avocado with onions and tomato, fried plantains ASOPADODEPESCADO — Fish soup PANDEMAIZ — Homemade corn bread CEVICHE — Lemon & lime juice, cilantro, onions, tomato and mango MEDALLAS — Tuna pâté with caviar. Chorizo espanol, roasted peppers, mustard and cheese. Tomato, sardegno cheese, evoo, reduction, avocado, cucumber. Traditional Spanish omelet. FRUTASFRESCAS — Fruits with vinaigrette reduction(intermezzo) PERNILBIENACOMPANADO — Pulled pork. ARROZCONGANDULES — Beanwood signature rice. TOSTONES Y PLATANOMADURO — Plaintains and sweet plaintains TRESLECHES — Tres leche cake like no other.

Went to this place after having dinner at Jester’s Café(which is awesome btw!). After a heavy meal, all I wanted was some decent coffee and my friend wanted something sweet so he opted for a smoothie. His smoothie was yummy! Strawberry, banana, mango and it tasted like real fruit! My coffee was… fresh! It was very surprising(and refreshing) especially since it was already 9pm and this place was closing at 9. We left around 9:50pm and we didn’t feel rushed which was really nice of them even though they were wrapping up. The staff was friendly and it was a cute little café(there aren’t any of those where I live so again, a refreshing change). They had a lot of cornbread in their display window which struck me as a LITTLE odd… but what do I know, I’m not a baker. Bottomline: drinks were fresh, place was clean, what more could you ask of from a main street café?

I couldn’t decide between a latte or their almond hot chocolate special so they turned my latte into a mocha almond flavor. and it was nice! The price was a bit steep at 4.50 for a small cup but it’s a boutique shop that should be supported. Their desserts looked delicious and I wish I had gotten it. I do know they are known for dessert so definitely get that and maybe a tea to offset the cost. Staff is very friendly!
