Borrego Valley Inn

Best hotel I think I have ever stayed in. Small, rooms were PERFECT and so so pretty. Plan on making sure you have time to enjoy the room. Bring orders to eat in, wine… enjoy the patio, stars, music in room (bring CD!).
Shower was to die for. Stone. A Pendleton blanket was provided as an extra blanket (I WANT ONE!). Two white robes hung in wait… a gas fire, all the utensils and microwave… even the lighting was perfect. You feel like you are in Santa Fe.
Breakfast (Chilaquiles) were the best I have had in a long time. Just like my mother used to make them (she’s from Mexico).
We went midweek and it was pretty empty. Wish they had better mid-​week deals — especially since not much in town was open at all around it. Road noise was a little loud since otherwise it’s so quiet.

Wow! I can not say enough good things about this lil gem of a hotel… Last minute stay last night & had no idea what to expect! So dang happy we ended up at The Borrego Valley Inn. Friendly staff, only 15 rooms, quiet, romantic & perfect. I will absolutely be back… Quite soon I would expect

Went just for one night passing through for our honeymoon. What an unbelievable piece of property. Very well done. One of the best breakfasts I have ever had. Room was clean and very quite. 2 pools that are open all the time (one is clothing optional ;). Great place for a romantic getaway. Owners were kind and helped us with any questions we had. Unbelievable sky views at night. We will definitely return

The room we stayed in was very nice, having a private patio, queen sized bed, gas fireplace, and a small kitchenette area with sink and small refer. We thought it was a little pricy but I think you are paying for the clothes optional pool (in addition to a regular pool) which wasn’t our thing.
I lost an earring and they said they would look for it and mail it to me if they found it… and they did! I give them 5 stars for that.
The breakfast was homemade healthly fresh food. The grounds are very Southwest and minimal but we loved the little seating areas and the beautuful natural native landscaping. Very nice.

Spent the weekend here and really enjoyed the property. Rooms were a good size with a private patio, and staff was friendly and welcoming. The bed was comfortable, nice little seating area with fireplace. The kitchenette is only a sink, small fridge, and microwave but we were not planning on doing any cooking.
The free coffee and breakfast in the lobby was a nice touch and it was nice to have the unique and healthy breakfast options. Other guests were friendly and everybody appeared to be there with the same idea of relaxing.
The pools and hot tubs were very nice, plus the staff said they could be used at any time and best at night under the stars. The clothing optional pool area was clean and private — so private that it actually took a couple of laps around it to find the entry gate. LOL.
We will be back.

We enjoyed our stay and did not want to leave !!! Beautiful and tranquil with great staff and a lovely breakfast. The pools and hot tubs both with spectacular views especially of stars at night!!! Peaceful and beautiful rooms with private patios … A very special quiet retreat.

We just came back from spending the night here and it was amazing. Staff was nice and pleasant. The room was super comfortable, the towels and bed sheets were so soft! There’s a back patio where we had our breakfast (included). I thought it was very peaceful, yeah there was a dog barking every once in a while, but it’s so peaceful out here. You are right on the main highway, but seriously a car passes by every 10min. The kitchenette included a mini fridge, coffee maker, microwave, and plates, utensils, mugs, and a sink. Yes pricy, but so worth it.

The best hotel to stay at in Borreggo Valley. The rooms are unique with a lot of love poured into the décor. The clothing optional pool and spa is best under the stars. The staff is awesome.

This was our first stay at the Borrego Valley Inn and I can guarantee it won’t be the last. It was so nice and charming. The staff was very friendly and sociable. We stayed in room 11 the desert lily and it was perfect. The fireplace made it so cozy and the back porch was a perfect place to watch the sunset and stars. In the courtyard was a really nice zebra finch cage that was nice to sit out and watch. The breakfast was delicious and the fresh baked cookie was a nice treat as well.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights as part of a week-​long hiking /​relaxation vacation to the area. For the price, we were very underwhelmed by this property. Considering the price of other nearby lodging, we were expecting a really posh getaway … not exactly.
First letdown was the location. The photos of the place online make it seem like it’s out in the middle of the desert, all by itself [we were told the owner was a former film cameraman]. This is not the case. It’s right off of a main road, surrounded by trailer parks. We could hear barking dogs from the neighbors all night, and the lights from the surrounding community kind of spoiled the solitude and ‘dark sky’ feel they advertise.
The rooms, while well decorated and cozy, were small and borderline shabby. What they call a kitchenette is a sink, mini fridge, and microwave. Think wet bar, not kitchen. We were planning on being able to cook our own meals, but that wasn’t feasible.
The front desk staff ranged from strange and inappropriate to flat-​out rude. The woman who greeted us on check-​in was really pushy, wanting to talk endlessly while we just wanted to settle in. During her monologue, she actually asked us if we wanted to buy the place! We hadn’t even seen our room yet, and she was talking about the owners needing to sell the place and how she wanted to keep her job. So inappropriate! On check-​out, we informed the front desk person [different woman] that we would like to eat our lunch on the patio and have a final dip in the pool before we left. She flat-​out denied us — saying that we had to leave as soon as we checked out. We were talking about another hour on the property, tops — in the middle of the afternoon — not a big deal. That was the final straw. They sent us on our way with a bad taste in our mouths — exactly what not to do in the hospitality industry.
Besides the service, much of our disappointment, admittedly, had to do with our expectations — and this place not living up to them. We stay at a lot of nice hotels, and this place was not, in my opinion, worth $ 200 a night.

Wonderful stay at this charming property. Everything was perfect from the room to the unique breakfast basket thoughtfully prepared. We enjoyed the clothing optional pool and the chamber if commerce weather. Can not recommend enough and can’t wait to return. Thank you for the recharge!

We were recommended to stay by family who’s stayed at Borrego Valley Inn previously. The special touches and attention to detail were much appreciated. Private Jacuzzi and pools, hiking out our back door, breakfast/​snacks awaiting us. Very special– much thanks!
I’m surprised there aren’t more reviews. It may be because it’s an intimate property and we who love it don’t want to share… too much!

Great atmosphere, lovely quaint rooms, friendly and accomodating hosts, and a delicious complimentary breakfast (yummmm)… couldn’t ask for anything more! Oh, and the fact that it is in middle of a beautiful desert, just a mile away from the park entrance — wonderful. My husband and I actually managed a decent morning run — front door of our room, to the park entrance, through to Palm Oasis and back — even spotted coyotes along the way! Simply awesome.
The only minor complaint — the heaters in the rooms are quite loud so we had to huddle under blankets during the cold winter night rather than turn on the heater.

Quality. Attention to Detail. Excellence.
After reading other reviews I think thorough physical descriptions of the property are already available. It really is a special place and from what I observed, the best option in the area. I would add that an acute attention to detail in décor and room cleanliness as well as a light, creative, gourmet breakfast and pleasant evening amenity package make this a lovely place to stay. In response to other reviewers challenges with the owners, they definitely seem comfortable ‘setting boundaries’ and did have an edge of annoyance which I noticed completely evaporated around people they knew. Even while maintaining a certain ‘distance’ that left me feeling like a definite outsider, they were accommodating to a couple of special requests and were always polite.
While I know it must be a challenge to maintain high standards and remain competitive, the price/​value formula, while enhanced by the grounds, little extra touches and high quality still left me with a bit of sticker shock whereas had the room been $ 30-​$ 50 less I would be raving about it!
All in all, the desert experience is not to be missed and if one can afford to pay a little more as well as a mandatory 2 night minimum, this little oasis is a excellent choice.

My husband and I just got back from an 8 day stay at The Borrego Valley Inn and I can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed it. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, decorated very nicely with thoughtful ammenities. The staff could not be nicer… and the breakfasts!
We can’t wait to go back!

14 rooms situated around a large courtyard with the sweetest tiny birds inside an aviary.
There are various-​sized rooms, with different prices of course. Our room was the «prickly pear» room and one of the small rooms. No TV, but a decent sized bathroom and huge patio off the back.
Two pools, two hot tubs, one pool area is «clothing» optional! Ooooo la la!
Breakfast is included and it was an awesome breakfast. The hot dish was an everything bagel and cheddar breakfast pudding and it was phenomenal! Pair that with some tea and pomegranate lemonade and the day started amazingly.
Chris was super friendly and showed us all around while our room was finished being cleaned.
Definitely check this place out!

We discovered the Borrego Valley Inn in 2006 when RIch and Gwenn had first bought it. We convinced them to let us come stay in the summer — as one of their first customers and we have been coming back almost every summer since to watch the Perseid Meteor Showers. Amazing place. Relaxing, peaceful, fun, private little rooms with their own patio and backyard. We highly recommend you come every week except the one we are there because we don’t like crowds! Service is great, they provide breakfast with coffee (not one of those dried up pastries at a continental breakfast).

Mmmm. I thought I had reviewed the Borrego Valley Inn last year. But, can’t find it.
The Borrego Valley Inn is not only a hidden desert jewel located east of San Diego, but a wonderful place to relax and have your artistic senses revived and stimulated. The buildings, rooms, grounds, and decorative fixtures all combine into a resultant refreshing mental experience.
The Inn and grounds are beautiful in themselves, but also have been decorated tastefully and with talent. It is wonderful just to sit outside on native wood mission chairs, beverage in hand, and take in the garden that is located in and around the Inn.
This was our second annual visit. Both times, we stayed two nights and were blissfully and magically transformed by the experience. The staff is very attentive, the breakfasts are more than was expected, and the room, as with last year, was really superb… and as we have stayed in many inns and upscale hotels, when I tell you that these haven inn rooms are exceptionally well decorated, equipped, and accessorized, it is by comparison with many other inn and hotel experiences.
Each room is decorated with native American artifacts, microwave, fireplace, iTunes device, and antique area-​appropriate furnishings are all there. Each room has a private garden with gate. Fireplaces are in the room, lobby and outside in an al fresco dining area. The grounds are a veritable art gallery with many places being Kodak moments in themselves. You imagine you’re in paradise, but the coyote cries and moon rising over the near by mountain peaks return you to reality.
We will be back. Hopefully next year. Oh, there is, I believe, a 3-​day minimum stay required. But, don’t take this seriously. With both stays, we wait listed ourselves and got in for a two-​day stay. Do this, it’s definitely worth it.

We just came back from a WONDERFUL night spent at Borrego Valley Inn. The room we stayed in (Desert Lilly) was gorgeous with a fireplace and private patio. The grounds are so peaceful and beautiful — love the aviary with all the little birds! We enjoyed a warm welcome from Kathy, who walked us to our room with fresh cookies in hand. During the evening, we star-​gazed and listened to a pack of coyotes running through. So magical! The next morning, we watched the sun rise over the mountains and enjoyed their extended continental breakfast. Chatted with Leslie (a fellow Canadian turned Californian who was manning reception that AM). Enjoyed the hot tubs and were on our merry way. Totally awesome and will absolutely be back!
(Just a note: the reception closes at 6PM, so keep that in mind if you’re coming from other parks within the area e.g. Joshua Tree, Salton Sea, Anza-​Borrego, etc. We arrived just in the nick of time! Kathy would have left keys for us, but it’s always nice to see a person when you’re arriving at a new hotel/B&B.)

Probably the best kept secret beside the fact it sits next to the largest California State park. Rich & Gwen run this adorable B & B with rooms that are just too Southwest cute to describe. We rented most the rooms their for our friends and family the year we got married.
Breakfast is delicious. Activities galore in the area. Trust me And for an intimate getaway? You couldn’t ask for anything better.
Try it. Btw there is way too much to see in the landscape of this desert in just 1 weekend… it draws you back.
