History

Established in 1983.

In 1983 Art DeMello began a career in Jewelry at the age of 23. Not Finding any Teaching Jobs in Massachusetts due to the Proposition 2 ½ Tax Cut Art worked as a shipper and packager for Ro-​An Jewelers in Taunton, MA. As he learned the business he later was promoted to Jewelry Store Salesman and on to Jewelry Store Manager. By 1986 Art needed to grow and accepted a position with The Westhall Co. and realized Corporate Retailing just wasn’t for him. Art then upon completion of his GIA Courses Accepted a position of Gemologist Appraiser with Hyannis Jewelry Shop of Hyannis Massachusetts and learned more. Working under Gemologist Eugene Munn and Store Owner David Hirsch Art learned appraising High End Jewelry including: Concord, Tiffany, Oscar Heyman, Kurt Wayne and others. Also in 1986 Art got a taste of how The American Gem Society did things attending the 1986 AGS Conclave in Boston Massachusetts Art was able to study with Eric Freedman President of AGS and many others conducting sem
