Blue Tierra Chocolate Cafe

I was looking for a classic French macaron in Boston, and Unilocal reviews led me to this place! Walking in, i was greeted warmly and saw many fun treats on display. They were also sampling a few of their chocolates, and I must say, their Turtle is AMAZING. You have a whole pecan coated with caramel and then enrobed in chocolate. It’s the perfect balance of ingredients, and I would happily pay $ 1.45 for it.
Their prices for bonbons are relatively standard, and I was actually surprised that their macarons were only $ 1.25, since other places charge much more. I can see why though — all of the food coloring, and the buttercream that’s merely flavored with the essence rather than includes the flavor — it turned my tongue blue/​green. The texture was great, but I miss macarons that use real pistachio paste and real salted caramel, rather than just the flavoring…
I’ll be back for that turtle though. YUM.

Blue Tierra’s specialty is handcrafted artisan chocolates, but not French macarons, which was the primary reason for my visit. Why are good macarons so hard to find in Boston? *Sigh* the search continues…
Here’s what I picked out with my $ 20 Rue La La voucher:
* Giza pyramid — milk chocolate pyramid painted in shimmery gold and filled with intensely sweet liquid caramel. I’m partial towards this piece b/​c I studied abroad in Egypt back in ’09.
* Green Isle — an emerald green four-​leaf chocolate clover filled with Guinness cream (bf enjoyed it)
* Turtle — milk chocolate turtle with chewy caramel and pecan filling. This piece was a work of art — so much detail and almost too cute to eat!
* BTL — dark chocolate with bacon bits ganache and a thin layer of maple syrup. Loved the pig print on the surface and the smoky bacon flavor.
* 2 milk chocolate-​covered pretzel sticks — simple, sweet & salty snack for $ 3
* a package of 8 passion fruit flavored gummy candy cubes — these had a very fresh and natural fruit flavor.
* 2 white chocolate covered Oreos — must be good; my sister devoured them without even sharing any with me!
* 4 French macarons — there were only two flavors available (raspberry & vanilla bean). The quality just didn’t compare to the elite macarons that I’ve tried around the world. The buttercream filling tasted very artificial and the coloring leaked easily. The shell texture was fine but it could use more almond taste.
Caution: the chocolate bars at the front of the store seemed to be melting in the direct sunlight for a while.
Service was slow (seemed understaffed) and the packaging was lackluster, but the chocolates definitely made up for it, esp. at very reasonable prices. I’m going to try the chocolate-​infused teas next time and get chocolate wasted. Who’s with me?

Absolutely love this place, great place to hang with friends, bring ur mac or a book, …they have. nice pillows & a great selection of chocolates in different shapes & colors… my all time fav drink is the «german choc cake tea» & the irish baileys choc.

There is a whale made out of chocolate here. I think that alone deserves 5 stars.
But there are a lot of other great things about this place, too.
For one, you walk in and are instantly assaulted (in the most delicate way) by the thick scent of chocolate. I’m pretty sure you consume calories with every breath you take in this place.
Of course, one cannot dine on odor molecules alone, so a purchase must be made. But deciding what to buy is difficult, because everything looks so appealing. And then actually consuming your purchase is difficult, because every single piece of chocolate is its own work of art; each looks like a perfectly polished gem or miniature world. It’s hard to destroy the beautiful with your teeth.
But totally worth it. It’s rich, decadent, melt-​in-​your-​mouth, everything you want chocolate to be.
I think it’s also worth noting that the chocolates are also surprisingly resilient. This little bugger survived an entire St. Patrick’s Day in its bag in my pocket:
I also sampled an Irish car bomb cupcake. The Irish cream frosting was perfect (they even gave a friend a little cup of it for the road), but the cake was a tad too dry. Regardless, it was still a more than edible bright spot of my day.

I go here regularly for coffee (vanilla latte). They are much better than other options in Southie (Café Arpeggio). Also, the chocolates are AMAZING. I have to send them to my English mother, because she says they are the best she has tasted, and I consider her to be somewhat of an expert. They also make great gifts. Everytime have gifted them, people are thrilled. They are very beautifully decorated, but also very tasty and unique. My favorites are the Persian Pom, the Lavender Caramel, and the Lemon. She also makes very good peanut brittle and macarons. I haven’t tried anything other than these items, because I like them so much. I’m sure everything else is great, as well.

Had some of the spicy hot chocolate and some of the exotic-​looking chocolates. The hot chocolate was pretty good but needed more sugar. The individual chocolate candies were good. There is a comfy lounging area to sit and read magazines and books if you’d like. The staff is very friendly.

Take the #9 «City Point» bus from Copley and the bus will let you off right across the street from this fabulous chocolate. I got the «Green Isle» for my Dad, which is made with Guinness. Some non-​pariels for my mother. Delicious and beautiful malted milk balls. I picked up a package of gold foil wrapped coins.
The counter service was pleasant and helpful.

I was looking for a chocolatiers to get a chocolate gift. I discovered this new business based on Unilocal’s recommendations.
Not only do their homemade truffles are so pretty (many of looks like precious stones), they are also exotically delicious and relatively inexpensive. These are perfect for gift-​giving. I got a box of their truffles as a gift for a picky eater friend based on the owner’s recommendations. He raved about it afterwards.
The space in the café is loungy and comfortable. They serve coffee, chocolate flavored tea, homemade pastries/​sweets and also offer free wifi. I made a trip there to pick up a favor box. Because the space inside is so nice and welcoming, I decided to hang out for several hours and get some work done there. Over the course of 4 – 5 hours, I devoured a piece of exotic chocolate (lemongrass-​infused truffle), finished a cup of chocolate flavored tea, picked out a box of pretty and delicious chocolates, got quite a bit of work done and thoroughly enjoy myself there.

I love this place! I work in South Boston and find myself frequently stopping in for a treat on my lunch hour. :) The chocolates and baked goods are beautiful, delicious and reasonably priced. I haven’t tried the coffees but they serve them in cute little china cups so one day I will. Definitely recommend.

I am very grateful to my client who sang Blue Tierra’s praises. It’s a short walk from Broadway station and well worth the trip. The owner and her staff are master artisans of confectionery art and they have created a wonderful space to enjoy these goodies in. I had a delicious latte, chocolate chip cookie and amazing bread pudding, surrounded by exotic décor and fantastic world music. The bread pudding was served warm and was the best I’ve ever had, rich with chunks of warm slightly melted chocolate. I’m still dreaming about it.
The array of chocolates on display is something to behold. These are beautiful to look at and decorated with rare art. They are even better to eat: not too sweet and will delight the palate with layers of complex flavors. I purchased some 8-​piece gift boxes for $ 12.50 each, an absolute bargain. I don’t think you will find a nicer gift for a chocolate-​loving friend. I asked the owner where she had studied (Paris, perhaps?).
She laughed and said no, but she would love to go. There is no need, I told her. I’ve tried comparable chocolates from the late Richart at Copley Place and Blue Tierra is their equal and surpasses them in many ways!

I bought a box of 16 chocolates, all of them were amazing! The lady that owns the place is really nice and you can tell that she really has a passion for what she does.

Cute, comfy, & yummy! I just went to Blue Tierra Chocolate Café for the first time but I was SO happy with the experience! I had a vanilla latte, which was pretty average — not bad, not great, but yummy. However, the chocolates are DELICIOUS and the ambiance was really nice. An eclectic but nice mix. It’s pretty small but cozy. I’m not sure about wifi (b/​c I didn’t use it) & you have to pay at least $ 8 to use your debit/​credit card but it was cute & I left happy. :) I definitely plan on going back.

Damn Yuppies moving into Southie… and their damn good chocolate and gourmet coffee!
I live down the street from this place and have been meaning to stop by for over a year. Just went in this past weekend, and I’ll have to say that I like it a lot. The chocolate is very good and so is the coffee.
It’s a bit of an oddball in the neighborhood, but definitely a cool place.
It would be even cooler if it was open on Sunday…

Almost all of the chocolate is made in the café. Not only is the chocolate high quality, but it is NOT loaded with sugar, which means you can really enjoy the flavor without overbearing sweetness.

This is a bit out of the way since you have to take the red line to broadway, then walk a few blocks, but I found it worth the effort. Their chocolates are quite good, but honestly, I can’t remember which ones I tried so far (at least not what they are called).
I will also give them props on price. I think it came out to just under $ 1/​truffle, which is pretty cheap these days. I’ve definitely spent more on truffles with comparable quality.
One thing I’d advise against is their hot chocolate, if you are a hot chocolate snob, like me. I like extremely dark and rich hot chocolate that is also not very sweet. Theirs tasted little like what I just described. The sugar overpowered the chocolate, and I didn’t enjoy it very much. Hopefully, they’ll either improve that, or offer a darker option… Still, all together, the chocolates are good, and I’d definitely recommend it as a place for buying gifts.

Very pleased to say that this café is a home run for West Broadway! I had a delicious latte and a selection of dark chocolates that were fantastic. I couldn;t resist a last minute biscotti to dip in my latte… very good! Also, they had milk chocolate peanut butter cups and when I told the lovely woman at that counter that I wished they came in dark chocolate, she happily said «that’s funny, I was just in the back making a batch with dark chocolate!» Needless to say, I will definitely be back to sample those and all the other goodies Blue Tierra has to offer!
BTW: the café offers a lovely sitting area with wifi… had I had the time, I would have been happy to sit back, relax and enjoy the atmosphere!
One thing… it might be better if you could see inside this lovely shop. As it is, you might just walk past and miss out.

BTCC, I’ve been waiting 52 years for you! Yesterday I pulled up in front of your magic doors and double parked– [yeah, that was me.] I immediately saw a sign that read; «Be back in 15 mins» Yikes! Because I am smitten; I’ve eaten every variety of exquisite chocolate you’ve created, I jumped back in the car, took a spin around the projects, watching the clock, willing the minutes away. When I returned, viola! The sign was gone & Jen was back, just like she said she would be. Thank you, Lord!
Yesterday my eyes glazed over as I studied the delectable gems behind the glass counter and tried to come to a decision. I chose Moroccan Tea truffles, beautiful silky smooth turtles, wasabi squares and some kind of dark chocolate ganache thing-​y. I returned home with the telltale blue bag and promptly hid it in the back of the fridge behind the Montrachet and the expired jar of horseradish where it’s only visible if you bend all the way over at the waist, crank your neck at an unnatural angle and squint your eyes (You can’t be too careful with these things) The chocolates all safe & snug until we meet again. One of these days I’ll fight the urge to hover over the counter, I will order a cappuccino or an iced tea and sit like a person who’s not under the influence– the gourmet chocolate influence but it will be very difficult. Please keep up the good work & stay here many, many years! Thank you.

Samples of the pecan crunch were available at the register. Delicious but a little too chewy for me. I wish it had a little more crunch to it like toffee.
My friend and I tried out their chocolate chip cookies. They didn’t have the expected cookie texture. They were more like a cookie cake in consistency, and once I started to think of it as a cookie cake, I really enjoyed it.
They chocolates are beautifullly decorated. I ordered two ladybugs and a blue marble (tierra?). They were both delicious. The three of them together were only $ 1.20, so imagine how much chocolate you can get for $ 28/​pound!
The set up was cute despite the location, and it made me wish I could stay awhile with a book and a cup of tea. I’ll definitely be back.

Blue Marble Chocolate Café, located at D Street & W. Broadway, is super cute — but located in a wierd chunk of Broadway. Its delicious and cozy inside — do not be freaked out b the surrounding area.
For my bachelorette party I ordered the Lux Dessert Tray which came with chocolate covered fruits, beautiful cookies, and amazing chocolates. Highlights: the dark chocolate mice (2), the milk chocolate pyramids w/​edible gold, the multi-​choco covered strawberries, and the awesome cookies in the fluted paper cups.
While ordering, I mentioned how great the chocolate would go with cupcakes from another bakery up the street… and Jen, the owner (?) let me know that Blue Marble could prepare mini cupcakes at a BETTER price than the other place, PLUS she’s decorate the minicupcakes with two different colors of frostings.
The red velvet cupcakes she made were amazing. Some were topped with white cream-​cheese frosting with a chunk-​let of strawberry on top, the others were strawberry-​cream-​cheese frosted with chocolate bits on top.
Oh — and did I mention — RED VELVET MINI CUPCAKES WEREN’T EVEN ON THE MENU! Jen is a baker — so she just executed what I wanted.
Price — great.
And after my party, Jen emailed me to get FEEDBACK! Awesome. (
