Boston Marriott Copley Place

I stayed at the Copley Marriott with my nine-​year-​old daughter. It was our special girls night. I picked this Hotel after plenty of «shopping» around online, reading many reviews on several sites. Booked it finally thru Expedia.
When we arrived early at the hotel, we were greeted with a valet who took our bags and directed us to the front desk, Our Room was ready early, 2pm instead of 4pm.
Upon checking in we met our bell hop, Charles, extremely nice & professional. We were brought to our nice, clean, good sized room on the 30^th floor, the view was great. Beds were very comfortable, hot showers, and heating system worked good., room walls VERY thin, could hear neighbors phones beeping and peoples conversations, Television definitely needs some updating, our picture was less than perfect. Hotel had a pool & hot tub that my daughter loved ! Overall all our amenities met our expectations.
We had a great day visiting the Prudential Center, shopping & having lunch. We had dinner at Champions which is inside the Copley Marriott. I wasn’t sure what to expect from a sports bar/​restaurant inside a hotel. But it was great, food & service was amazing .
The one thing about our stay at this hotel that did NOT meet my expectations was at 3:30am we were awoken by a fire alarm, a very scary moment for both of us. A loud blaring alarm, Not sure what to do we followed what our neighbors were doing and exited thru the stairwell, down 30 flights of stairs. When we reached the ground floor there was no one visible that worked for the Marriott, a hotel full of people standing in the cold waiting to be told what to do and no one, nothing. A few moments later an announcement played saying the Boston Fire dept had fixed the issue (never told what issue, but heard from other guest that an exhaust fan over heated and set off alarms) and we could return to our rooms. But the elevators were out of service due to alarm … We waited ONE LONG hour to return to our rooms, we were finally able to use a service elevator at 4:30am.!! … But never saw anyone from hotel other than someone handing out waters.
The Marriott is not to blame for the fire alarm but they are to be blamed for the pure lack of management & control of what happened after the alarm. They dropped the ball on this one. This alone would make me think twice about returning to this hotel. Hopefully they work on «what to do after a Fire Alarm «…Until then, I’ll probably be staying else where … And never again on the 30^th floor.

Below average for what should be a flagship property. Very basic misses. Almost impossible to park. Hotel has 1200 rooms and 40 valet parking spots. And the garages are awful with little direction about how to get to the hotel through the mall
Energy age elevators extremely slow and feel like they are more inefficient.

An unfortunate 3-​day stay at this Marriott property that somehow left with me days after I had checked out. Undoubtedly, management fell short when it came to resolving several issues. This property has great potential with their comfortable rooms and one of the nicest fitness gyms; however, due to the poor management over a plethora of issues that affected the quality of my stay, I will never stay here again. The fact that I’m an Elite member is irrelevant — simply treat me like a human who pays to stay at a hotel for comfort and security. My stay began with terribly slow internet (room 2904) and ultimately, work was completed incredibly slowly. A page download would take up to one minute; I had flashbacks from the days of landline yore. Then, the next morning, I was awakened by cleaning ladies that were so loud — slamming doors, talking and chatting at 9am (6am on the west coast, where I’m from). Next, I discovered I did not have hot water so I took a lukewarm shower. When I reported this, they sent up a couple engineers to resolve the matter right away. The engineers mentioned that there were so many people showering at the same time but they looked into it and by that evening, the hot water was back — greatly appreciate that they hopped on that. When you call «At Your Service», you are able to reach help 50% of the time. When I had issues with the internet and the hot water, I could not even reach anyone over the phone to assist me for a good hour (I know, first world problems. but if you pay as much as you do for this kind of room, is it too much to ask?). But the most disturbing experience occurred that evening, a Saturday night. There was a party obviously going on in the next room. It was packed with what sounded like 20 guests hosted by guest, Robert Luschenat. By nearly 11pm, I was unable to rest prior to an early wake up call to work due to all the noise. I called for assistance and spoke to front desk manager, Christy, who said security would be sent up to request them to quiet down. It made the situation worse. I could hear screaming in the halls, «Let them call! I don’t give a &*(%!!» The music, voices, screams and laughs all got louder. And worse yet, they slammed the heavy door endlessly as people were rotating in and out. I called «At Your Service» again for assistance because the guests were continuing to get drunk and obnoxious. When I could finally reach someone, Christy said they would send someone up again — which at this point, I knew would be ineffective since it was just angering them more. Ultimately, these folks nabbed the «Do Not Disturb» sign off my door (pretty appropriate to do as that sign was meaningless at this point). I had asked for a change of rooms and was told there were no rooms available. I felt far from safe and comfortable, in addition to feeling tired and trying to prevent myself from getting stressed. I somehow got through the night. In the morning, when I was waiting in line at the reception — I could hear a female guest with a stroller telling the staff that there were drunk partiers around her room last night and they were knocking on her door at midnight, disturbing her and her baby. Obviously, management failed to assist many of us. When I got back this afternoon and saw the guests had left, this older woman was cleaning up what looked like a hurricane hit. There were alcohol bottles everywhere, food on the floor, the desk… I helped out the cleaning lady by collecting the copious amounts of trash all over while she waited for more support. I feel like management did nothing about this and they also never personally see it. No one came to my room to hear what it sounded like. No one saw the mess that was made in the room. Maybe one effective way to do this is to separate by floor the partiers from the families and the business travelers? That could be the first question asked upon reserving a room — ‘Oh, are you here for business? Are you here to recreate in town? etc. etc’. I’m sure those ruckus-​inducers had rooms spread out and it would have been much better to put them all next door to each other as to not bother everyone else who paid for a room to simply get rest and do business. When I called and spoked to Katie, another front desk manager in the morning, she apologized and offered me a banana or a glass of wine. All I really wanted was to be able to get one word in as she kept talking and interrupting me. For those that communicate with her, you would understand this statement. I think one of the most important traits of a manager is to simply… listen. I’m still in this cursed hotel and checking out with running shoes on for this horrible stay. They have lost me as a patron and kept the party-​harders. They were able to fully accommodate them so in the future, these will shave off the type of customers that respect others and the property.

AWESOME location about a block off Boylston… lay your head on a supercomfy pillow, wake up with all of uberwalkable Boston at your doorstep.
Many quick, inexpensive Ubers around for when the sights are too far, the weather too cold.
We did a huge 8ish mile out-​and-​back loop one balmy 25 degree afternoon… a quick turn up Boylston takes you right past the Boston Public Library, up through the Common/​Public Garden (statues! Swan boats! Make Way for Ducklings ducks! Frog Pond hockey rink… swoon!) to the start of the red-​bricked Freedom Trail near the front of the State House. Fanueil Hall and Quincy Market, beacuse tourist. YAAAYYYYYY for the North End! Paul Revere House. Pastry Wars: Mike’s vs Modern. Pizza Wars: Umberto vs Regina. Exponential YAAAYYYY for randomly walking right up on TD Garden, home of the Boston Bruins. (Apparently we were within an even closer walking distance to Fenway Park as well — bummed that that didn’t make it into the tour). ALLLLL the churches. Newbury Street: The Rodeo Drive of New England. Cheers Bar, also because tourist (NORRRRRMMMM!!). Commonwealth… gorgeous. (Tom Brady lives there)
My point is, all of that and much much more was easily explored within a few hours on foot, by a couple Texans who did NOT die of cold. Easy Peasy.
INCREDIBLE views of gorgeous Back Bay neighborhoods, the harbour, and air traffic from Boston Logan (planes taking off and landing, over the harbour, at sunrise/​sunset looks positively stunning.)
Great sports bar on 2^nd floor lobby — many, a surprising amount actually, great taps of regional (and otherwise) beer. Starbucks and FedEx (yaaayyyyy for ease of shop-​and-​ship!!) also on Lobby2, as well as the attached megaultrapremium shopping mall. Neato 24-​hour WholeFoods-​wannabe market right across the street (round the clock kayaks and hummus… allll the things! except beware the Puritanical Masshole alcohol regs… stores stop selling at 10:45 p.m. or some ridiculous nonsense)
Unexpected: $ 17 cost of WiFi… what the what?!
If Bestie Westie can allow me to stream Netflix and watch unlimited Facebook baby goat videos, AND serve me Texas-​shaped waffles and OJ in the morning, I’d expect at least the same from a 6 katrillion$ per night establishment

Big rooms, staring right at the Pru if you get the right side! A nice, centrally located hotel. Only major downside… wifi is $ 13! I get that they can make a profit off that, but it’s 2016 and having Wifi shouldnt be considered a luxury amenity anymore. I visited with a friend who is a Marriott associate at another location, and when we checked in, the staff had left us a card and a plate of snacks and some San Pellegrino– a nice touch!

I had a nice stay at the Marriott Copely Place. It was a nice hotel and was a very convenient place to stay for a conference that I was attending (it was at the Marriott). The Marriott is literally adjacent to the Prudential Center mall and is extremely convenient for food, shopping, and subway transportation (there is a subway depot in the basement of the mall).
The room was nice and we had a nice view of the city. Can’t think of anything to complain about except that you had to pay for internet per day. and it was a bit expensive. Something along the lines of $ 13 a day.
I also got to utilize the hotel gym. Very nice, clean, spacious, and well maintained.
The elevators were neat. They were efficient and quick and were made in a way that I have never seen before. You’ll have to check those out for yourself. It’ll be a little bit confusing at first but you’ll get the hang of it.
Also, in the lobby area they occasionally offer hot drinks like hot apple cider. The cider was DELICIOUS and am a bit disappointed that I only got to utilize that perk once.

I stayed here for a conference in Oct 2015 and it’s a nice hotel overall, but ridiculously pricey. The hotel is connected to Copley Place (a large, upscale mall complex) and is connected to the convention center (via the mall), which is very convenient, especially when the weather isn’t too nice. My room was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was spacious. The service at the front desk was very good and the workers were quite pleasant. However, the price of a standard room is astronomically high, even with a conference discount, and it’s not worth the price.
Overall, the rooms are clean, comfortable, and the staff is friendly. However, the price is much too expensive for what you get.

This review is only because of my experience today. Up until today I would have given them a 5 star. I was treated like a criminal today and I have absolutely no idea why. ZERO idea. I have never been treated with so much disrespect by a business in my life. I am Platinum member. I travel weekly and have been staying at this hotel since November. I am so upset because I have no idea why I was targeted, when all I was doing was getting on the elevator so that I could leave and go to work. Below is the complaint that I have written to the hotel. It just happened this morning so I have not gotten a response yet. But I hope this man gets fired. I never would wish for someone to lose their job but he does not deserve to work with the public.
I would like to formally complain about my treatment this morning by one of your staff members. I am assuming he was security but he was in a suit and not a security uniform.
As I am getting on the elevator on the 28^th floor, this gentlemen, black guy, maybe African or Haitian, not quite sure of his decent. But as I am getting on he was getting off and he turns around and gets back on with me. The entire time he is watching me which makes me uncomfortable but he didn’t say anything so we exit on the first floor and as I am walking out of the door, he questions if I stay at this hotel. Clearly he just saw me get on the elevator on a floor that requires key access. I say YES why, he never responded why and demanded that I give him my key and he asked one of the desk agents to run my key. I am still asking him why and he still never responded. So I snatched my key and proceeded to leave to get into my Über so that I could get to work. As I am leaving I could see him and a uniformed security gentleman following me out of the door. They didn’t say anything else to me but I feel very harassed and offended that I was treated like a common criminal and do not have a clue why. I have never been treated like this in my life. And this has really upset me because he never had the common courtesy to even tell me why. He had absolutely no right to treat me like that and I would like this filed as a formal complaint. I do not have the gentlemen’s name but I am sure it could be easily found out. This happened 1÷6÷2016 around 8 a.m.

I am a Rewards member and have stayed here often, but not in while. I was glad to see that they have fixed the issues with the elevators, they are fast and efficient. I have to say my favorite room in Boston is at this hotel so I come for the hope I can get it and the view it affords. It is easy off and on from the Pike so I do look to come here when traveling on business.
That said, I find the front staff and concierge staff sometimes cold and distant. The parking staff is absolutely the best. I go a year; and they still recognize me and say hello by name. You would think the front desk staff, with a system that highlights I am a repeat guest would be as welcoming.
I do not like the Champion bar; sorry sports folks, it is to loud for me. I wish it had more of a local charm and foodstuffs. I sat in the lounge area and it is just not comfortable and there is no service in the area. We walk to a Legal Seafood in the mall and then walk to other hotel with our Starbucks — its just more welcoming.
Why the three stars; simply the room is clean, bedding is great and sometimes I prefer South end. The view outweighs the other stuff as there are plenty of options to hang-​out elsewhere.

First the plus’:
Very comfortable bed. Super location. Classy lobby and public areas.
Elite Members: stay away — choose the Ritz for your lux check-​in. Here’s why. First, at check-​in, I asked the desk assistant VERY specifically: What is your Elite policy? Answer: Best available upgrade at check-​in. Ok. I located my room — mediocre run of the mill low-​end size room — but it had a musty stink. Having experienced this same smell at the Marriott P’burg Airport, I opened the AC unit and the filter was just disgusting. Snapping a photo I headed down to the front desk. Shocked! Was the response — quickly I was upgraded to a larger room — below a suite but THAT’s what I expected in the first place. Recognizing my Elite status at check-​in is worthless unless you truly value that client status.
Concierge Lounge: beautiful room BUT Walmart food and service compared to other Marriott’s and Hyatt’s. A second year culinary student would do better. I wish I could post my pics of the piles of dirty dishes —
I actually went out of my way to stay at this hotel — the Ritz — a Marriott partner– was closer to my destination. This hotel would have passed the 3 star test if it was in a suburb location.
As a Flagship downtown property, the management and brand site managers should step up the game at this property. You can’t rely on convenient location for repeats like me.

My room was dirty when I checked in. There were stains on the sofa and food on the floor.
I loved the location but the hotel needs to be updated and renovated. The housekeeping is definitely sub-​par. You will waste a lot of time on the elevators. They are the worst.

I attended a conference in the Marriott Copley Place and it was a nice, clean hotel. The meeting rooms were clean and comfortable. The bathrooms were clean and the food was so so to average.
The meeting areas had plenty of outlets to charge your phone or mobile device. The wifi was a bit spotty, download times were slow, but that is probably to be expected.
All in all a good experience.

Good, but not worth the price; even with the conference discount. I am also a rewards member and they didn’t honor my preference for a king bed. My wife and I pleaded for another room, and we called customer service… no dice.
The double beds we ended up with were totally different in terms of softness and the fluff of the comforter. Seems that they were holding onto an older mattress and comforter to save money or something. Only at checkout, while stretching my back on the floor, did I notice silly string on the ceiling by the window (room 2530, in case any Marriott people ever read these reviews). That seems like something the staff should not miss in an actively sold room.
Room service was not used because of the numerous add-​on charges. A single bottle of beer would have cost $ 16!!! Lucky for us, star market was at the base of the building.
For conference goers, this was an extremely convenient location. Plus, you can ride the Logan express bus for free to the hotel/​conference complex with a Charlie card or active T ticket.
Plus, why are there 3 separate taxes for every room?!? I know, not Marriott’s fault, but travelers should someday consider a revolt. Those 3 taxes added up to 15%…capital gains tax territory.

We stayed on 9÷5÷15. Hotel, staff, lounge and location were perfect. Our room was clean and our view was decent.
Only issues were that the next morning the elevators were slow, maybe not working. We walked down 17 flights of stairs and had a few groups of people follow us. Also the desk chair was loose (no biggie).

When I stay in Boston I generally stay at the Copley Marriott, mainly because I am a Marriott points guy.
Generally like the Copley: Good location, friendly staff, and above-​average gym. Champions is much improved and is a great place to grab a bite and a beer.
The downside are the elevators. I know they just improved them, but they are REALLY really slow (even with the pre-​programmed destinations). You need to give about 5 – 10 minutes of extra time (seriously) before you go anywhere.

When I’m in town traveling on business, this is where I stay.
The good:
— Great location. Close to Copley Square /​Boston Library (my favorite place in Boston)… Pretty much close to anything!
— Large spacious rooms. Rooms are clean! Beds comfy!
— Decent hotel restaurant
The bad:
— Very pricey even for a standard room
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend staying at this hotel.

The Marriott at Copley Place is likely the best Marriott in the downtown Boston area. This place has pretty much every amenity that you could hope for in a hotel and is in a perfect location to walk around and see all the sights that Boston has to offer. Pretty much everything about this place is awesome, the rooms are spacious, comfortable and well appointed, the concierge lounge is nicely staffed and boasts beautiful views of the city. The room that I stayed in was on the 28^th floor and had wonderful city views along with a great view of the Charles. The location itself is perfect and attached to the high end shops of Copley Place, right in the center of Boston. The location provides easy access to all of the local sights and is even conveniently located right across the street from the duck tours. Overall, this place is a fantastic hotel to stay in if you’re planning to be in Boston

Things I like about this hotel: great location with easy access to public transit, shopping, and restaurants. Clean rooms. Nice staff.
Things that are just «meh»: the wifi is spotty and expensive. The bathroom doors don’t offer enough privacy. Not enough seating: the lobby areas and lounge were very crowded, and there really should be more common areas for such a large hotel.
But the reason I’m giving it two stars is their bafflingly bad elevator system. There are only 6 elevators to begin with, which doesn’t seem like enough for a nearly 30 floor building with conference and event facilities.
The entire weekend we were there, we only had one elevator serving our floor. We were on a relatively low floor so we would have to either squeeze onto a full elevator on the way down, wait for another one, or hoof it up and down the stairs. We ended up waiting nearly half an hour on our last day (when we had all our luggage and couldn’t just take the stairs).
It’s a great location, but it should never take 25 minutes to get to the lobby. What if there had been an emergency?

Cyndy’s Bottom Line: Excellent location within walking distance to many places.

Stayed at Boston Marriott Copley Place for a week while attending a conference. Nice Marriott flanked by two shopping malls and conveniently located in the heart of Back Bay.
Great service. The only problem I had with the room was that when you’re out — or asleep — the thermostat cuts off. If there’s activity in the room, it’ll stay on, or periodically come on. But if there’s no movement, it senses that you’re out, so to conserve energy, it cuts off. It gets hot at night! GREAT view from the 32^nd floor.
Also, the bathroom doesn’t have a fan. Gets humid after a shower, which I hate, because you start to sweat. Kinda defeats the purpose. And the pocket doors take some getting used to, even though they’re great for space-​saving.
The elevators are REALLY slow, especially the set for the upper levels. They’re supposedly fixing that.
The on site banquet food service is not great, either. None of the meals provided for the conference were all that great — one of them being filet and what looked like homefries. For a fancy dinner? Terrible. The chicken and asparagus provided for a luncheon was also tasteless.
Adequate gym (didn’t seem to be too full or not be able to accommodate all who were there when I was).
Great Dollar Rent-​a-​Car right on site. Pricey, but convenient to drop off with the valet.
The tech folks for the breakout rooms were really fast and accommodating. When I realized my presentation room wasn’t setup quite right, they fixed it ASAP.
Great location near everything. A walk to Fenway or Faneuil Hall is just a hop, skip and a jump.
