Citibank

Awful customer service… as in non-​existent.

It’s a bank. So uhh…
They have slightly redic fees.
The people are nice.

Horrible, horrible, horrible! If I could give it –10 stars, I would.
Now I used to like Citibank. And from what I’ve read, they seem to be good here. But I think that’s just because they’re trying to brand themselves as a new bank in Boston. For customers they’ve had awhile, it’s a whole different story.
After the magnetic strip on my two month old ATM card stopped working, I went to order a new card. After three weeks, I went to the branch to enquire and they said that my ATM card wasn’t delivered and blamed me and the USPS for not delivering it. Being that I just moved, I thought, well maybe. Then to avoid further complications, I ordered another ATM card and had them deliver it to the bank. Surely the USPS wouldn’t miss this big building with the huge Citibank logo on top. The bank said they’d call me when my ATM card came in. Again, I waited two weeks (even though they said it would take seven days). I went in and they said it’s on it’s way. I gave it another week and didn’t hear from them. So I went back in. They said that my ATM card had been sent back to the mailing house and destroyed and again tried to blame USPS. Ok, once I can understand. But twice? So this is month number two I didn’t have it. They said they’d courier it at their expense, two day delivery and made a big stink about how they’re doing it at their expense. Yeah, well Citibank, you messed up A LOT. Should I have paid for my ATM card to be delivered and not destroyed? Plus, they gave me such attitude when I went in there to ask about it. I am very business-​like and do not curse or yell. There was no need for the way they acted.
Maybe it’s just me, but I feel if something as important as an ATM card was sent back to the mailing house, wouldn’t there be a checks and balance systems to have someone call me and verify my address and let me know the problem. After all, why are they taking my phone number when I open my account?
After 10 years of banking with them, I’m shutting down my account. They have reached new levels of inefficiency.

Edit: I have shut down my Citibank account and no longer have to deal with these fools. Also, they’ve overcharged me when withdrawing internationally from Citibank. After taking in all this money, they still had a massive layoff. Seriously, there are far better banks than Citibank, like Bank of America, which I also hate with a passion. That tells you how bad they are.

I have only had good experiences with Citibank. Helpful customer services; excellent online banking.
EDIT: It took literally two hours to get a joint banking account with my wife the other day. The person serving us was obviously newish, and frankly stupid. Why do I have to prove my address with two forms of ID when I have a pre-​existing account with the bank, which I can readily show?
EDIT2: It turns out that I cannot link my Californian Citibank account with my Boston bank account (I have a personal CA account; and a joint family account in MA). Citibank allows me to link to any other bank, but internally with their own. To avoid bank fees I have to literally write out a check from one account and deposit into the other account. How stupid is that?

I’ve never been compelled to write a positive review of a bank until yesterday. I signed up with Citibank out of convenience years ago (they’re everywhere) and was stoked when they installed ATMs in all the 7-​Elevens as I had never needed a teller until recently.
When I wandered into the branch and saw that only one of the four windows had a clerk which was fine because I was the only person in line. While I was waiting an older gentleman came in behind me to pay his credit card bill. Another employee emerged from the back and assisted him with the machine as he didn’t know how to use it, patiently explaining the process. My teller was also exceedingly helpful and kind. As it’s so rare with corporate banks, good customer service is commendable. I’d have given five had these guys not been working for the big C.
I do appreciate that deposits are available immediately and their website is clean and easy to navigate. Their rewards program however is totally useless to people who don’t spend loads of cash, like me. But I’m still trying to rack up those frequent flier miles!
