History

Established in 2014.

The history of Classic Sail Boston begins with the company’s classic wooden sailboat, The Nanatasis.

Built in California in 1941, the Nanatasis by design, was built for maritime pilots to escort larger vessels into port.

The Nanatasis was purchased on eBay in 2007, by a couple with a young family who were looking for a classic wooden boat. A phased-renovation lasted five years. Her beautiful woodwork was lovingly restored by the Seal Cove Boat Yard in Cape Rosier, ME, under the the guidance of Bob Vaughan and lead carpenter Vaughan Peters.

She was finally named Nanatasis (Abenaki Indian for «hummingbird»), a name inspired by her new family’s love of birds and Maine. The Nanatasis now resides in her home port of Boston, MA.

In the spring of 2014, the family created Classic Sail Boston LLC, as way of sharing their love of Boston, its beautiful waterfront and harbor, and the unique experience of sailing aboard a classic wooden sailboat.
