To echo the reviews of everyone else, Dr. Soll IS extremely professional, warm, and conscientious. He is very upfront, and he doesn’t treat you like an idiot while explaining in laymans terms what is going on. Normally, I am the laziest person when it comes to any kind of travel… I always pick providers or anything else based on how close it is to my house. Since I no longer work in Boston, I now have to consider finding a new eye doctor on the North Shore. But, Dr. Soll is that good, I think I might be willing to do the hour commute to get to him!
The ONLY reason I am giving this rating 4 stars instead of 5 is because I agree with the other reviewers in their opinion of the receptionists. They are rude and unprofessional, in stark contrast to Dr. Soll.

Today was my last appointment with Dr. Soll after seeing him for 4 ½ years — I’ll be moving out of town before my next eye exam. He’s not only a fantastic eye doctor, but he really takes the time to get to know his patients and remembers things about you even though you may not have seen him for a year. He is also very transparent in everything he does and explains why he does what he does as he goes. I only wish my PCP were this thoughtful and warm.

I have been going to Dr. Soll for 11 years now and he is fantastic. He is thorough in asking questions and also in the exam. He does not try to upsell you on anything and a real professional. His demeanor is caring and patient. I strongly recommend him and could not be happier.

I was looking for a new eye doctor and DT Eye was one of several that took my insurance and was located close to my office. It was also the first time that I took the advice of fellow Unilocalers when finding an eye doctor. I have to say that my experience was good but I was not wowed. I had an appointment with Dr. Schneider who is the other doctor at the location. There are many glowing reviews about Dr. Soll but I didn’t see him so I can’t comment on his wonderfulness. Similarly to the reviews about Dr. Soll — Dr. Schneider was very thorough with my medical history and during the examination. It was a good experience, I have terrible vision so it was nice that she was taken the extra time to be thorough. After the exam, she wanted to me to come back later in the day after I had worn the new contacts she gave me and also to review the optical scan she had done. I wasn’t able to come back later that day but she was kind enough to give me a call and remind me. Note — this location has a fancy machine that allows the doctor to scan your eye and do the same test that previously required dilated pupils. It’s $ 35 but well worth it since you can go back to work after it’s done!
However, my one gripe about this place is the reception/​support staff. The two women who are at the front desk seem frazzled and borderline rude. While I was attempting to «check out» — another customer was waiting there to pick up his wife’s contacts and he had to wait for a good 20 minutes while the staff frantically tried to figure out where they were. And they certainly weren’t paying me much attention. And since I wasn’t able to come back that same day — I called the office the next day to reschedule my meeting with the doctor and my phone call was received with attitude and the receptionist rudely reminded me I hadn’t paid yet. I wanted to say, «Well it’s your office that sent me away without paying!» Great doctors but I’m ambivalent about the office staff — maybe it’ll improve on future visits.
UPDATE: The doctor left me another message with her cell phone number the next day to follow up about the scan she had done as well as figure out when I could come back in. I thought this was very dedicated and thoughtful. She apologized for any bad impression I may have gotten the day before since it was a busy day for the office. I’m changing my review from 3 to 4 stars. Amazing doctors at this place! Worth the visit.

Dr. David Soll is the smartest, most conciencious eye doctor I have ever met in my life. He is simply the best and has the most modern equipment available to manage your care. I have been a patient of his for over ten years.
A couple weeks ago, I fell and incurred a concussion. I was having headaches and trouble focusing, and called Dr. Soll to ask his opinion. He told me to come into the office immediately so that he could do another retinal scan. Since my prior scan from a few months ago was in the computer, we could easily see if my retina was affected by the fall. (my scan looked the exactly the same and it was so great to have my prior scan immediately available).
Ten years ago, in spite of my begging, Dr. Soll disuaded me from having lasik surgery until he felt is was ready for prime time. «Not quite yet» was his advice. A couple years later (I continued asking annually), he said «Ok, we can do it now, the problems have almost disappeared» and set me up with the best lasik surgery opthamologist in the business. He even called me at home the night of the procedure to see how I was doing. My lasik surgery went perfectly and Dr. Soll managed my pre and post op phases.
I tell all my friends to go to Dr. Soll, and they always call and thank me. You simply can’t do better. Your eyes deserve Dr. Soll.

So in my search for a new eye doctor, I decided to look at the reviews on Unilocal!Everyone said how fantastic Downtown Eye Associates is, so I decided to give it a go. I saw Dr. Soll, who came out to grab me right on time and then proceeded to go through my medical history. I have to say that my experience was fantastic. This is the way medicine used to be and the way it still should be! Nothing was overlooked. Dr. Soll offered me a new technology to scan 3D images of my retinas (he was up front with the fact that the test is not covered by most insurance companies and therefore would be $ 35 out of pocket). I decided to go with the test as my family has a history of glaucoma and this technology allows the doctor to compare your eyes from one exam to the next. The machine is pretty cool, painless and takes only a matter of minutes — no drops to dilate your pupils. All in all, I would recommend Downtown Eye Associates to anyone (kids and adults). Also, though I did not need a new set of glasses, they have an excellent selection of stylish frames, so I will not hesitate to give Downtown Eye Associates my business when the time comes for an update.

I finally found my eye doctor!!! I have been wearing glasses since I was 9 and have been to numerous optometrists all over Boston, and Dr. David Soll is definitely among the best. Best in the sense that he will do what is best for you. We discussed about the pros and cons of going up the prescription (my eyes got a little worse but not to a point that it is absolutely necessary to get a new pair of glasses/​contacts). He checked the convexity of my eyeballs and we discovered that I have long eyeballs since I am nearsighted and have low convexity. Normally, other doctors would tell me everything looks fine since I don’t have any complaints but Dr. Soll explained to me the implications if I ever consider lasik. I didn’t have to ask, I didn’t have to give him a confused question mark look, he was just so great about walking me through what he is doing and what everything means. Make an appointment early though, Dr. Soll is usually booked about at least 2 weeks in advance.
I decided to get new glasses anyway since my current ones are 4 years old and pretty banged up. The lady who helped me was unbelievably patient with me. I am admittedly one of the most indecisive people out there and she kept her smile the whole half an hour that it took me to just walk about the store in circles. She made some observations on the shape of my face (i.e. more rectangle frames would look better) but let me roam free to choose and try on ANY frame I wanted. She was definitely right in that rectangle frames do look a lot better than round ones so she scoured through everyone pair she had and even offered her own for me to try on. The selections were pretty broad with everything ranging from inexpensive insurance covered frames to the brand names (Ray Ban, Gucci, etc). I didn’t noticed any of the super expensive, can’t-break-‘em-even-if-you-tried frames through (i.e. IC Berlin).

I’m also a patient of Dr. Soll, or was until I moved out of the area– but let this be a measure of how much I love him: I haven’t been to another eye doctor since, because I’d rather wait until next time I’m home visiting family so I can schedule an appointment with Dr. Soll instead. He is caring and considerate, doesn’t ever try to upsell you on things you don’t need, and is truly respectful of his patients. One of the best doctors in any discipline that I’ve ever seen.

Just went for my 1^st appointment today even though I probably shouldn’t have given that I have stomache flu. I got there 5 minutes late because I thought it was across the street in the high street tower as the picture indictes online, the first thing I got out of the receptionist was: you are late. Like a high school principal yelling at a misbehaved student. So I was like whatever, cause it was my fault that I got lost. She handed me over the paperwork and then after I was half way done, she told me that they have to reschedule because I was late and that my old doctor didn’t fax in my contact prescription, so I told them to go ahead and scratch the contact lens part of our appoinmtent to save some time. She then pointed finger at me again saying that I still have 1 page of paperwork left to fill, which would’ve taken me 30 secs and asked to reschedule. At that point, I was like, I’ve had this. She was sooo rude to begin with and I offer to have a shorter service to compensate for the lack of time and she was just being soo unfriendly and finally told her that I’ll call them to reschedule if I want to. I’m sure the doctor may be as good as the other reviewers say but his staff member needs to go. I don’t think any customer would appreciate the way I was treated.

I can’t believe I am the first to review! This is the BEST place to get an eye exam and they have a fantastic assortment of frames (in every price range from haute coutoure designer to affordable). Dr. Soll is the nicest and most caring person, gives a thorough eye exam and discusses options, doesn’t try to sell you glasses if your prescription hasn’t changed to warrant such. They are even open Sunday mornings which is a plus!
