I am very protective of my hair and was very nervous to get Keratin. My coworker went to George and came into work with amazing hair so I just had to see George. He was fantastic! Totally put me at ease and understood what I wanted. My hair has never looked better. I am getting so many compliments. I HIGHLY recommend George– I will not let anyone else in Boston touch my hair now :)

This is the first Unilocal review I’ve written, but George’s praises must be sung! Unless this means you all find out now how awesome he is and then I’m never able to get an appointment with him ever again :-p. But for reals — this guy is the greatest. Let me start by saying I’m paranoid about my hair, and refused to touch it with any sort of color up until 2 years ago, and never with any permanent color until a couple months ago. I’ve always loved and been proud of my hair, and have been hesitant to do anything drastic. George is trustworthy, honest, informative, and oh so talented.
I first came to him on a whim about a year ago, to get a brown color gloss over my natural color. I am always hesitant about putting my hair’s fate in someone’s hands, but I was new to Boston and had no recommendations, so the receptionist booked an appointment with him, and I went for it. I immediately felt comfortable — George knows the science behind every single thing he does. He walked me through my options, voiced his opinions, but never pushed. Sidenote — he never pushed any products on me either, which was so refreshing. Anyways. My hair looked gorgeous.
So of course I kept coming back to George! I did a temporary jet black gloss once (George let me be stubborn and do that despite his concerns of it never lifting from my hair — of course he was right. never argue with a master.) Then a red gloss, which didn’t do much. FINALLY, I decided it was time to do something a bit more drastic for my look. George worked with me to create the absolute perfect color, which I have now. I was of course worried about damage to my hair from permanent color, but George explained everything he was doing, down to how the chemicals react, and at this point, I had total faith in him. I’m glad I did!
For the past two months, I’ve had a deep red color on my long and wavy hair that I am absolutely IN LOVE with. It’s obvious that it’s not a natural color, but it looks far from a tacky red, and I can still go to work in the Financial District with no raised eyebrows. SO many people have complimented it! A stranger on the street a couple weeks actually complimented it.
George’s talents exceed being a colorist and stylist. He is smart and exceptionally educated in his craft, and he knows that a good hairstyle can raise a person’s confidence up so many levels. He is not a «one style fits all» sort of stylist; I think we’ve all had our experiences with those. George is sincerely invested in helping his clients feel confident and secure in their looks. and he is absolutely top-​notch.

This is a review for Yasmin who did my hair for my wedding. Living in California, I was trying to find a hair stylist in Boston to do my wedding hair remotely, which was quite challenging. However, when I found Yasmin, I knew right away that she was the one to do my wedding hair. She gave me her phone number and email, we exchanged photos of different hair styles, and talked on the phone. She knew exactly what I wanted and what would look best on me in photos given my dress and the shape of my face. Yasmin is extremely knowledgeable at what she does. I was very relaxed on my wedding day knowing she’d do everything perfectly.
Yasmin also went out of her way to get to me the day of my rehearsal dinner to do my hair after we miscommunicated about the appointment time. She ended up coming to my hotel and doing my hair there. She is such a kind and thoughtful person.
I will definitely go to see Yasmin at L’Elegance for all of my hair needs when I visit Boston. You can’t go wrong with her.
I’d like to also add that Stanley came with Yasmin to do hair for my sisters-​in-​law and aunts and he did a great job as well. I loved all of the hairstyles that both of them came up with. None of the 10 people they did that day had a similar hairstyle but they all looked amazing. These two make a great team!

George is amazing! I have had a brazilian blowout done at other salons and George does the best job, by far! He is so welcoming and super friendly! It’s a long process and George is patient and thorough. I was absolutely thrilled with the results. Worth every penny. I’ll never go to anyone else for this process!

Stephanie gave me an awesome new look!
I was in desperate need of a cut and updated style (I’ve had the same hair length since high school) but wasn’t quite sure what I wanted. My naturally curly hair has gotten more interesting to manage over the years because it doesn’t hold a curl like it used to and the ends were dead beyond repair. Stephanie assessed my tresses and suggested we do a long bob. She showed me photos of what she had in mind and also ways I could potentially style it. I could tell she had great artistic vision and gave her the go ahead.
I’m so happy I did! The cut looks great and she gave me a fabulous blow out which I kept for a couple days. It looks awesome curly as well! I would definitely recommend Stephanie if you’re looking for a new do!

George saved my hair when another salon accidentally dyed it black. I was blonde for a while and wanted to go closer to my natural brown color again, but I ended up with gross black hair that made me look dead. After a good cry, I Googled color correction and saw great reviews of George. He lived up to the reviews and fixed my hair right up. He gently removed the dark color and replaced it with a nice natural brown, and all without destroying my hair. I was so happy with the end result. George is the best!

George is the absolute best! I came in with a runny self-​attempted ombré this year and he put in hours of work to color correct in countless of different ways. The end result was amazing, he even helped style in my extensions during the blow-​out. Worth the money, can’t wait to go back

Awesome place! They literary saved my hair when they ruined in another place and I tried two different products to dye it again on the same day. The result was amazing. My hair was so red and they made me blonde again. Thank you so much!

I don’t have a fair opinion of the work of the other staff here, but I think the overall place is a bit outdated and could use some sprucing so I’m leaving L’Elegance with 4 stars. 5 for all my amazing hair experiences with Stanley (who they had the wisdom to hire) and 3 for the general set-​up and décor.
Best of luck to all who stay behind. I’m off to follow my years of great hair someplace new!

GEORGE is an AMAZING colorist. My hair was dyed black instead of brown at another salon, and everyone said I couldn’t get it out without bleaching and destroying it. GEORGE has an amazing product and knowledge base and turned my ugly black hair back to a golden brown and it felt healthier and another than ever.

Stanley is amazing! Had the best keratin treatment of my life. Stanley really knows what he is doing. Highly recommended.

John Stanley rocks! Another great cut and color! Having short hair and curly to boot makes it difficult for some to straighten it but not John! I’ll never go anywhere else.
He is current with hairstyles and would give you great advise. He does tend to book solid weeks out therefore I book my next visit when I’m on my current one.

This place is a rip off, although the kind of service is excellent but they make sure they suck all your money by pretending that they know what you want and not being clear to you of the process beforehand and after you don’t get the service you want, you ask for a fix and they make you pay as if it’s a new one then they’d say «sorry we can’t do anything about it because the surveillance system is monitoring everything!
I will never go back there although I liked the hair designer.

I am pretty shocked this place has such a high rating. I don’t really like giving bad reviews but in cases like this I feel the Unilocal rating is so misrepresentative that I need to speak up.
After 3 great years of haircare at another salon on Newbury my stylist went on a personal leave with no indication when she would return so I was forced to find a new person. I decided to give this place a try based on the consistently high reviews here on Unilocal.
From the minute I walked in I should have known it wasn’t going to be great. The space is small, oddly organized, outdated and unfortunately outright dirty. There is a small front desk but the girl staffing it was on the phone. Instead of putting her call on hold or motioning for me to give her 1 minute she whispers to me, «Just go ahead over there!» I had no idea where «over there» was and after looking around a bit I wandered back to the front desk with a look of confusion for the girl. She gave me a bit more detail on where «over there» was with some slightly more specific hand motions.
I soon found a small closet where I gathered I was supposed to hang up my coat. Then what? I searched around and found a cape to put on. I then wandered out and noticed a few randomly placed chairs. I decided it looked like the closest thing to a waiting area so I sat down and waited.
Norma did my hair and was incredibly nice. So nothing against her personally at all. But I have to say the entire experience was totally disappointing. She gave me a quick wash while chatting with her friends who worked there (and were sitting around with no clients). She then asked me what I wanted. After describing (and showing some pics of what I did and did not want) how I wanted my [long, layered] hair trimmed, she set to work.
She was friendly and chatty which was pleasant but there didn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to how she was cutting my hair. In the end my hair came out vey mediocre. It felt like one of those cuts where she accidentally did OK. If I go back again it might turn out horrible or it might turn out OK again. Generally it seemed like she was just cutting here and there and wasn’t executing any technique.
The final straw was that when I went to pay at the end they said it was $ 65. When I made my appointment over the phone they had told me it was going to be $ 60. Yes, it is only $ 5 but being told a different price than what you are charged is annoying and honestly, either price point was too high for what I got. It felt more like a $ 35 haircut.
My hair didn’t look fabulous when I left and after 3 weeks my hair hasn’t magically gotten better. It is already getting shaggy and frumpy looking. Such a bummer!

I came here after reading the great reviews but after my experience i will NEVER get a haircut from Norma. I came here because my hair really needed a hair cut. I usually get a hair cut back home but since I dont live there anymore it wasn’t practical to just fly back home to get my hair cut. But now that I think about it, i should have. I came to the salon hoping i would get Yasmin or Stanley but the receptionist never asked me which hair stylist i want so when i came to the salon, the receptionist sent me to Norma. She is a friendly woman but let me tell you she gave me the worst hair cut I have ever gotten. First, she talks a lot. I don’t mind a stylist talking a lot but if I wanted her to focus more on my hair. Next, I just told her I wanted simple layers nothing crazy. And during the hair cut, she gave me extremely choppy layers to the point where you could actually see the layers. The way she cuts the ends was so choppy that by the end of the session she tried to cover it up by blow drying my hair.
After I got back, I took a shower and did my usual hair routine. And this was when I realize how much i hated this hair cut. She does not know how to give a hair cut and all my layers are so uneven. I was not asking for anything crazy just a simple trim and asked to give me even layers since my hair felt really heavy. Even if i was to get my hair stylist back home to fix it, it wouldn’t be possible since it is so short that all i have to do is to wait my hair to grow. My hair cut is so bad that I’m considering purchasing hair extensions. So if you want to go to this hair salon, avoid ALL COSTS the hair stylist called Norma. She is absolutely horrible and I am horrified by my hair cut.

I am a blonde at heart but wanted to go shades darker to match my roots and after 3 hours my hair still looks like a mess. I have now orange/​red roots with mousy ashy bottom and lets mention the awful blow dry I got for $ 40. I brought in a picture of what i kinda wanted to look like and it wasn’t even close, I explained I came in because I wanted my roots to match the rest of my hair which did not happen. I knew it was going to be a challenge because I had previously highlighted my hair but at the end of the day i was hoping they can sort of make it look pretty.
The salon itself its nice, the people working are really nice but the fact they let me leave the salon with that color and blow dry is really upsetting. still debating if I should go back to have them fix it but not sure if I trust them to do it again.

Incredibly poor customer service. Not impressed. At all. Actually the worst hair experience I’ve had in years.
I went for a trim, and I have… excuse me… HAD long hair. Easy, right? Somehow it turned into a choppy, disjointed mess. So I had to go back to get it fixed, and now it’s three or four inches shorter than I wanted (which is a LOT!). And what makes matters worse is that the receptionist told the stylist that I requested someone else to fix it because I didn’t trust her… That’s awkward, unprofessional, and unnecessary.

I cannot say enough praise to him for the rest of my life! He is amazing at what he does! He listens to your concerns and then expresses his ideas. I have been going to him for years! I sent my friends and now my mother swears by him!
He is very kind and loving and truly cares about his clients!
I will never go to anyone else again! He is truly a GEM!!!

His down to earth, kind and loving personality is what first got me to try his haircut. His consult, expertise and delivery method is why I’ll be a regular customer!
The cut he gave me wasn’t only exactly what I wanted, but what exactly my hair needed. Beautiful long layers that fall perfectly, he kept all my length since I’m growing my hair very long.

Dawn E. referred me to Stanley at L’Elegance (after a complete hair disaster) with a handshake that if I liked him and his work, that I’d owe her a drink. I now owe her drinks for life.
Stanley is one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met and made me feel right at home the second I met him. He spent about ten minutes evaluating my hair disaster to make sure that this color correction would be done perfectly and that’s when I realized that this was the very first time anyone had ever really looked at my hair. Like really looked and actually cared. You know how you go to a salon for the first time and they give your hair a once over and then go into the back and start mixing colors? Stanley made damn well sure he was getting the right color and actually gave a sh*t. That ten minutes showed he cared and in the end that time spent was more than worth it when I walked out with perfect color and a beautiful cut for a great price. I seriously couldn’t recommend him highly enough.
What can I say? I’ve finally found my man.

I came here for the vanilla Keratin treatment with Stanley. Let me say one thing, my hair has never looked better. No one has ever treated my hair in such a way that I would cheat on my hometown stylist. Stanley made me cheat, he made me cheat real bad!
Him and his staff made me feel very welcome and they were not snobby like other places I’ve been to on Newbury St. I loved every minute of this experience!
Now, I keep daydreaming about going back there and having him do my hair for whatever occasion I can conjure up in my head. I am leaving to Mozambique soon and I want to find the time to go to Stanley so that I can have nice hair on the 27 hour plane ride there!
