Metropolitan Desserts

We ordered sorbet and a cake while the food was decent, the food was overpriced and our delivery driver was rude and asked for more money for his tip after we already have him a sufficient amount. Do not order unless you want to be disappointed by their service.

Utter crap. Twice the estimated delivery time, overpriced and to top it off CRAP. Freezer-​burn, granulated sugar, CRAP! $ 8 per slice of unbelievably bad cake. Go to Star Market, you will be happier.

I used the coupon in the Collegiate Coupon book, buy two slices get one free. It was $ 18 in total after delivery. I had the turtle cheesecake, which was okay at best, the Carmel was hard and the chocolate and the nuts weren’t even on the cheesecake; the tiramisu, and I am a tiramisu foodie, this wasn’t tiramisu it had fake, cheap frosting on it and no espresso flavor, and finally the baklava had a fraction of the amount of pistachios it should have and it was soaking wet, but not in a good honey way. In terms of service, the delivery guy didn’t want to get out of his car and didn’t offer me change, the food took over an hour and 15 min to arrive. I wouldn’t recommend.

Ordered a froyo and cheescake, took 3 calls and over 2 hours to get here. Don’t bother.

Their frozen yoghurt is just amazing. Definitely order it!

Yeah. Don’t do it. I don’t know what happened, but they’ve turned into horrible monsters.
I didn’t order for a couple of months but when I did again they lost the order. I hate being that person that calls 5 minutes after the expected delivery time to demand to know where my food is, so I waited a full hour. I got some extra full cake containers.
Ordered again tonight and was about to call, almost an hour and a half later, when the guy drove up. And called me when I was standing at the door. Which I really hate, especially when there are kids asleep.
So sad.

They called me one and a half hour later to let me know that they did not have one of the desserts. They could give me another one, but it would take another 45 min. to deliver. I cancelled the order of course. The guy on the phone did not apologize and hang up on me. I am not even sure if they will give me back my money.
Terrible customer service. I will never order from that place again.
Don’t bother ordering from this place.

From my experience, it seems this guy is a hit or miss. But you better be lucky if you want your dessert on time.
Unreliable: Test your luck if you want dessert
I ordered at 9:20PM through foodler with an estimate 10:10PM delivery time. Generally, foodler is reliable so we didn’t make plans for alternative desserts. This guy calls around 10:03PM (first call as noted on both my cell phone statement and phone)… to let me know he is out of what I want.
(We had two deliveries planned for tonight. The other one arrived on time (10 minutes early– Go Dash!). After 10PM, we were waiting in the outer room for the doorbell to ring as they generally do with my apartment. After waiting we finally realized around 10:40 that he wasn’t coming.
Customer service:
This guy wasn’t really apologetic. When I asked why he didn’t call around 9:20 when I made the order… You know even up until 9:50 (30 minutes after order is processed) seems reasonable. He lectured me about how «Boston delivery» isn’t exact science. That it was not his obligation to call me before the delivery time to let me know that they ran out of inventory.
I mean when I deserve an apology for relying on this place and not going out to buy desserts, I expect something less than a lecture in return.
If the dessert wonderful– go ahead and take a chance with this guy. Also, take a chance if you have time in your schedule for «hiccups.» However, do not order here expecting 1) reliable service because according to him «delivery is not an exact science» and he «gets backed up a lot.» So it is fine to let you know when you expect a delivery — that he can’t deliver. 2) customer service– if you try to ask why he didn’t do what the other restaurants do (call back in 10 – 20 minutes of the order to let you know you need to order an alternative or choose another restaurant) — you can get an old fashioned, illogical and ad-​hominem lecture.

For a dessert only place I’m not impressed.
I’ve tried the Boston Crème, Carrot Cake, Tiramisu, Chocolate Mousse Cake, and White Pistachio Ice Cream. As you can see, I’ve given them a shot :)
I’ve just never been impressed.

My husband and I ordered dessert from them last night (there goes the healthy chicken and grilled veggies I made for dinner.). We got the buy 2, get 1 free deal and have a slice of carrot cake waiting in our fridge for us to share tonight.
I got the bomba, which was … interesting. I enjoyed the almond paste on the outside of the cake, but the sponge cake was just way too wet for me. I know it’s soaked in liquer or whatever, but it was literally dripping as I was eating it. Perhaps a bit too much soaking? The ricotta in the layers was a bit underwhelming as well.
My husband ordered the strawberry cheesecake, which must’ve been good since he inhaled it in about three minutes flat. I tried a bite and I liked it; it wasn’t too sweet and the texture was great.
Delivery was fast, although there was a weird phone call from the place shortly after I ordered — they were trying to tell me they were out of carrot cake, but then told me they have tons of it. Maybe something they should’ve checked before calling me?

Is there no store front? This addy is a hair salon. #confused #hungry #wah

Craving dessert at 10pm and not wanting to get off the couch? Then Metropolitan is the place for you.
The desserts are slightly pricey and slightly dry, but hit the spot.
We will probably order from here again.

Metropolitan Desserts solves the age old problem of, «how can I get fatter in less time?» I’ve been ordering from these guys since 2006 and the service and the cakes /​pies are always perfect. There have been times when they’ve gifted me a free slice because they felt one of the ones I ordered was too small. Plus, if you get two slices through foodler you can get a third slice free. How awesome is that?

Oh right… the place that I keep wanting to call Neapolitan Desserts for some reason, even though I’m very aware that it’s not located in Naples, but in METROPOLITAN Boston. But it doesn’t matter what it’s name is, because it isn’t good.
All I wanted was the chocolate mousse cake. I got the espresso cake. Then I spent about a 20 minutes trying to figure out if it was the espresso cake or the tiramisu cake. To me they’re one and the same, and I really don’t understand why they have both. I didn’t like the espresso cake. After eating my uncle’s tiramisu, no other espresso-​flavored dessert compares. So I switched desserts with my boyfriend. He got the strawberry shortcake. Nothing to write home about. If I suddenly desire fattening sustenance in the future, I’m going to Cheesecake Factory.
And just as a side note, has anyone else noticed that the address of this place is actually a beauty salon? I have a theory that some old woman living in Allston decided to devote her retired life to baking for the masses, so it all comes straight out of her kitchen. And to avoid dessert-​hungry stalkers, she doesn’t give out her true address.

I really enjoy them everytime. Never had a problem, friendly excellent selection, delicious and FAST! Saves the night, truly. I always order the Bomba cake which is out of this world. A moist rum cake with almond paste and ricotta filling. TO DIE FOR. I also love the All Natural Annabelle’s Ice Cream that you get free with two slices of cake! They’re always fast, ice cream arrives frozen and they deliver till 1am! Skip dessert and order from them, they’re great!

I found Metropolitan Desserts on Foodler (how many pounds lighter would I be without
) on one of those nights where the only thing that could possibly make a woman feel in any way human is something chocolate, and chocolate I got.
I ordered the Chocolate Delirium — a flourless chocolate cake with chocolate ganache, and because that didn’t meet the $ 15 delivery minimum, a Boston Cream Pie to ‘save for later’ (yeah, right).
I prefer my flourless chocolate cakes a bit denser, but this certainly wasn’t bad by any means, and it definitely fulfilled my chocolate craving. It basically was one giant cut of pure chocolate. However, it was actually a bit too chocolaty for me, almost bitter, and I couldn’t finish more than a few bites.
So I decided to switch and break out the Boston Cream Pie, and it was AMAZING. The cake was moist and delicious, the cream sweet and flavorful, and just the right amount of chocolate ganache on top.
On top of everything, the delivery man was so polite and pleasant and arrived 20 minutes before Foodler’s ‘expected arrival time’ (which is usually around an hour). That was a nice surprise.
Overall, I would definitely recommend giving this place a try when you’re in need of a sweet fix and can’t/just don’t feel like leaving home or putting in the time and effort to make up something for yourself. My only complaint is that even though they have an eclectic offering (Bomba, Espresso Cake, Strawberry Shortcake), they don’t really have many classic choices. There isn’t a plain chocolate or vanilla cake on the menu, and when it comes to baked goods, its often the simple concoctions that are the best.
