Midtown Hotel

Wonderful hotel, friendly staff and extremely helpful! We wanted seafood, recommended great place for real, fresh, seafood. Tonight wanted a steak, recommended a great, reasonably priced place and we got a great filet steak for $ 20 cooked medium rare to perfection. Easy to flag down a cab. Subway station at the end of the block; who could ask for better. Booked through Hotwire, nicely priced, comfortable bed and clean accommodations. Do not hesitate to stay here in the middle of the city!!!

I only stayed at this hotel because it was pet friendly and the rate was $ 99 a night… but by the end of it, I walked out with a $ 173 bill… not exactly the bargain I was hoping for. Parking was $ 29 a night and it cost $ 30 to have my dog there. The place was relatively nice but the staff was iffy. When I arrived, the staff was nice and even offered to upgrade our room, but ended up taking back that offer when they remembered I brought a dog. The staff the next day, when I checked out was slightly better than rude. I gently let them know that it was very loud all night and at 8AM until 10AM, there was very loud music playing. They didn’t seem to care and didn’t apologize. They just said I should have called them. Overall, this is not the worst place to stay, but it’s not worth the money. For that much, I could have been in a much nicer place.

Honestly the hotel provided exactly what I expected for $ 130 a night. It was clean. They brought in a fridge when we asked for one. Courteous people. It’s not fancy or new, but I felt comfortable enough. We reserved on Hotwire, so rate was low. It’s close to the T & some very nice shopping/​food.

A wee budgety, a wee dated, (and a perfect setting for a future scary story, mwahahahaha!), this hotel did what it needed to during my stay in Boston. It wasn’t a fancy hotel, but a) it was far cheaper than the other hotels in the area and b) close to everything. I only used the metro once. Everything else was in walking distance, from the shops on Newbury to the Old South Meeting House to everything else one needs to see in Boston. Some tasty restaurants are nearby as well. So for the location and the price this place can’t be beat. The only reason it got three stars is that there was a faint stink of dog in my hotel room and the walls were thin (the dude next door was shouting on his phone or at someone late into the night).

Ok hotel for a stop over but not a great experience. Rooms are outdated and not well kept. It is close walking distance to Haynes convention center and other mid-​town stores. The staff was not overly friendly and didn’t make much of an effort to make the stay worth while.
As a last minute hotel in a pinch I guess it’s what you expect.

Stayed at the Midtown for one night so we could attend a Billy Joel concert at Fenway Park. To get to the point, this hotel is one of the best bargains you could find considering its location. While the building is old, and the rooms basic, everything is well cared for and immaculately clean. Staff was friendly and helpful, our room was ready when we checked in, parking was located in a sheltered underground garage, and the location was pretty much close to everything… all for $ 150 for the night, a price unheard of in a downtown hotel! While the rooms consisted of basic needs, everything was clean, the beds were very comfortable, and the whole place was silent, even with the hotel being sold out… filled with concert attendees. If you want a 4 star luxury hotel from which you will never leave from during your Boston visit, stay at the Marriot and pay a lot more. But if you are out and about and require a basic, clean, and quiet hotel… you will be very satisfied.
Tip…ask for a room in the center of the building facing the back away from the street. That’s what we got and the room was dead silent… great night sleep!

Most disgusting hotel I’ve ever stayed at. The biggest cockroaches I’ve ever seen crawled on me and my daughter at 5am. The whole place smells like mold and urine. Spend a little more for a decent hotel!

this place was exactly what we’re looking for. A place close to the convention center in downtown Boston that was convenient, affordable, and ¹⁄₅ the price of area hotels. if you’re looking for luxory this isn’t the place for you, but if you’re looking for a comfortable and convenient hotel you’re not gonna find anything better. I would definitely stay again! also, love the Freshest ingredient pizza vending machine… just a heads-​up though if you prepay via orbitz or another travel website… you can’t get an itemized receipt. This could pose a prob for business travelers.

You cannot beat the price. Try, you cant. The staff greeted us warmly and knew who we were. The room was spacious and very clean. All the other reviews of old and smelly carpets with dated decorum are a lot of inflation. What we got for what we paid was a great value. This is an awesome spot with accomodating staff. Being PET FRIENDLY is rare these days and bringing fido food and water bowls as well as treats was a nice touch. Pool was spectaucularly clean and the parking was a breeze. Trust your GPS and you’ll make it here without issue. We’ll stay again!

We stayed here for two nights in May. I specifically called to request a quiet room, but the one we received was still quite noisy (machinery). The room itself was very worn and old, while the hallways were dirty with trash strewn about. There is free wifi but it is so slow that it’s almost unusable. The parking on site is ridiculously expensive at $ 29 per night. The only redeeming factor is its central location in Boston.

One of the worst hotel internets ever! They offer 2 tiers. Guest network is free. It maxes out at around 1.5 down IF you can get it to work! Many random drops/​disconnects. I tested the connection around the hotel, walking down the hallways, with similar results. This is also my second stay here in a year, with no improvement over my last stay. The «Premium connection» ($ 9 a day) isn’t really any better. It taps out at around 3 down, with similar disconnection issues. Yes, I did try tech support. He didn’t seem interested in investigating the dropout issues for me.
The clerk comped me the «high speed» connection, but at the end of the day, it didn’t help, because neither of the two devices I had could maintain a working connection!

Nice hotel for the price. Customer service was great… although a little overworked. Great location! One mile to Fenway with lots of restaurants and nightlife. The room was spacious and bright with a well-​kept shower with good water pressure but the room smelled musty but the rug outside the bathroom was wet. Outdoor pool. Free parking if you have tickets to a Red Sox game.

The motto printed across my keycard proclaimed Midtown to be «The Most Convenient Hotel in Boston!» which I feel is a totally accurate representation of what you’re going to get when you stay here. The Symphony Hall is the next block over, you’re 3 blocks from Newbury St., and the T is easily accessible. The room rates are almost insanely reasonable given the great location, and there is a reason for that. It’s obvious that the Midtown hasn’t been updated in a very long time, and the rooms and furnishings do show their age. I have absolutely no complaints about the cleanliness of the room — the bed linens and towels were spotless, and the carpet was somewhat worn, but clean. However, some of the other furniture was in bad shape — the chairs had some stains on the cushions, the curtains had a large hole in them, and the TV was ancient. Also, the wifi access was spotty and slow, and I ended up having to use my mobile hotspot for internet access most of the time.
If all you want from a hotel is a decent place to sleep and keep your stuff while you head out and do stuff in Boston, you probably won’t find a much better option than the Midtown in the price range. If the «hotel experience» matters to you, however, you may want to look elsewhere.
Personally, I was comfortable here and thrilled with how close it was to everything. I don’t usually spend a lot of time in the hotel room, so I don’t see the point in spending a load of money on accommodations. I definitely wouldn’t have a problem staying here again.

I laugh when people who did not want to shell out three times as much for a brand name hotel say, «cheap hotel, no amenities». Bring your own chocolates and put them on your pillow.

Chill out everyone, This place is decent for the price while its still standing! Stop moaning… Go try to find ANYTHING even close to their prices in the area. Yes, it’s dated, and a bit shabby, but they are not going to spend money on a structure that will soon be leveled… However, the rooms are actually larger than most in the city. It’s a gem from a bygone era, soon to be demolished because the real estate it’s sitting on is absolutely priceless and we will likely see a high tower Hotel or Condominium complex that will take it’s two story place very soon…

This was the most inexpensive hotel I could find in Boston. With our AAA discount we paid $ 101 and change for our Saturday night stay. The hotel staff was very friendly, and helpful. We are going to a concert at TD Garden and when we asked about taxis and the man at the desk gave us instructions for the subway to save us a lot of money. The room is warm and cozy. The beds were nicely made, extremely comfy. And the pillows, amazing! They have free wifi and many channels to choose from on a flat screen tv. The whole place smells clean and fresh. I only wish the room had a small fridge and microwave. However we improvised and set our leftovers between the curtains and the window, where it’s nice and cold this January night. Still an excellent deal. We will definitely be staying here again for our next visit to Boston.

Great location and staff were so amazingly helpful for my whole group. It is an older hotel so don’t expect the Ritz but would stay here again in a heart beat.

The location of this hotel is great! Just a minutes-​walk to great shopping and great restaurants. If you have any questions just ask the front desk staff. Thanks to their bell-​boy, who was working when we got there, we saw and experienced the most of what we were looking for in the shortest time possible!
Rollaway beds are free, daily parking is very affordable and their outdoor pool gets them bonus points! Even though I would love it if this hotel was newer and shinier, I would not wanna give up the affordability they offer!
So I’d like to take time to thank The Midtown Hotel for hanging in there as the most affordable hotel in Boston!

Nothing really wrong with this place, but it does feel very dated. They seem due for a renovation and an upgrade of furniture, but I guess they have no reason to, since they are the last remaining affordable hotel in a convenient location.
The staff is very friendly and helpful.
WiFi wasn’t free, but I got it for work. Unfortunately, the connection wasn’t very strong.
Fun fact: Scenes from Ted were filmed here! If it’s good enough for Mark Wahlberg to pretend he stayed here, it’s good enough for me!

My parents stayed here for 5 nights the long July 4^th weekend. They have stayed here before, and waaay back in 1997, my mom and I stayed here when we came to Boston to look at colleges. That was 16 years ago, whoah… anyways…
I wish my parents stayed here more often. They usually stay at La Quinta in Somerville because of the free breakfast and free parking, and it’s usually a little cheaper, but I like this place.
This place reminds me of the movie Catch me if you Can (except for there’s no Leo wah). It’s very retro, but kept fresh because the people who run this hotel take very good care of it.
No, this place isn’t fancy… but at these prices, of course not. But, it’s clean, it’s fresh, and there is a pool and there is self-​park. I must admit that the weather was 96 degrees all weekend, and I would have loved to spend time in the pool, but I have a sadly high level of what I will call «bathing suit anxiety», so I rarely partake in bathing-​suit type activities. Regardless, the pool has been well kept up, AND they have a lifeguard. For people with children, you’re NOT GOING TO GET that ANYWHERE ELSE in this city. I think that is a really high class thing to do, to spend the money on a lifeguard so people can safely have a 2^nd set of eyes and ears.
The place is pet-​friendly, and I think there is a fee. The room had powerful air conditioning (thank goodness, it was hot out there!) and the housekeepers did a pretty good job refreshing the room each day as well.
I also want to give props to the attentive staff in the lobby. I have a greyhound who has never escaped me, but he somehow slipped through the hotel room door when my mom was leaving the room for something. He bolted down the twists and turns down the hallway, and HAD THE CONCIERGE NOT STOPPED HIM, he would have bolted through the double doors and into Huntington Avenue. It was a wakeup call for me, because he’s never even tried to escape me.
I love the staff here. They always greet you when you come in and leave, and it’s very old-​timey, old-​fashioned in how they provide service.

I worked in hotel management in Boston years ago (Ritz-​Carlton, Hotel Commonwealth), and I actually believe that for your money, this is, without a doubt, the best hotel in the city, for people who don’t to spend their entire paycheck for 2 nights in the city of Boston. Honestly, this place is good. All the 1 review/​1 star reviews, ignore those. This place is good value with great people. That’s all I care about, and that’s what most people who aren’t fancypants and/​or rich care about too. Check ‘em out!
