Monro Muffler Brake & Service

I recently stopped in to with an «emergency stop!» warning on my car. Although I was a drop-​in, the service was prompt and attentive, and my issue quickly resolved. The staff were helpful, gave clear guidance as to what had caused the issue, and let me drive off to test the light before asking me to pay — just old-​school, good customer service. I will go back!

Finally a mechanic that I can trust! After reading some of the other reviews, I was nervous coming to this Monro when I found a screw stuck in my tire. I figured this would be the prime opportunity to be taken advantage of and be told, «You need all new tires, breaks, oil, and filters!»
Au contraire!
Apparently the screw didn’t go through the wall of the tire. They called me to come back to the shop and I expected to still have to pay for time and labor… but I didn’t! The guy just gave me a receipt for my $ 0.00 payment and I was on my way.
I’ll definitely be coming back to this Monro.
A nice perk: the location is great because you have tons of options for food, coffee, and walking in the area. It’s also on the T if you have to get home after leaving your car for a long time.

My experience was very positive! My car had broken down right in front of 3 car places in a row on Comm. Ave, I first went into Firestone Tire where I waited for an hour with pretty much no help, so I walked over to Monro Muffler. The guys helped me push my car into their parking lot & I told them I thought my battery or alternator had died. They charged my battery for an hour, tested my alternator and both were apparently fine, my battery just needed a boost. They didn’t charge me, which was a really nice surprise.
I will definitely remember them when I need work done in the future!

Had an oil change done here 3 months + 3000 miles ago. Only now posting as you’ll see in a second. Let me preface this by saying, I normally change my own oil. Well, I go to change the oil in my car today and what do you know, the drain plug bolt won’t come off because whatever bozo worked on the car at Munroe must have put the thing back on with the impact wrench! It was on so tight that it won’t budge! Not only that, but the bolt is partially stripped! WTF!!!
To add insult to injury (literally, as I scrape my knuckles trying to get said bolt to move), the oil change ended up costing me $ 8 more than the advertised price because of a disposal fee (I understand), but also included a bullsh! t «shop supplies fee». When I asked the gentleman at the counter what said fee was for, he explained that it covered «rags and things like that around the shop». Again, WTF?
Take your money elsewhere folks, you’ve got options!

3^rd trip back. Excellent and polite service. Very reasonable prices. We made use of their oil change and tire rotation special.

Since my original post I have been back for tires and brakes (badly needed).
This business is very pleasant, informative and very reasonably priced. They also get the work done quick.
I’m psyched to report that my car isn’t in need of any maintenance. when and if it is, I will be calling these guys at Monro.

Had my oil changed and tires rotated. I was told I needed new brakes but I declined. I then got a coupon in the mail for 10% off new brakes. Took it back for brakes when they started squeaking, and then was told I needed new rear rotors as well.
The mechanic showed me what they looked like, and I did indeed need new ones. Prices were quite reasonable. Very friendly. Took longer to replace rotors than they said it would, but understandable.
Grab a cup of coffee across the street at Blue State while you wait!

RIP-​OFF! Will Never Return. I brought my car here for an oil change because it’s around the corner from my office & I got a coupon in the mail for a $ 19.99 oil change (their sign usually says $ 29.99). The total came to $ 47 after all of their fees and service — what a rip-​off! If that wasn’t enough, they didn’t do a 16-​point check or fill any of my fluids. They also told me I needed 2 repairs, totaling $ 500. Thankfully, I knew a repair shop in Quincy, so I brought it there, where they charged me $ 120 for the same repairs, and he filled my fluids and checked the rest of the car! Never going back to this place again — a bunch of thieves! The guys working there are very kind and friendly, the only positive.

I went here this weekend after calling Midas who was rude and said he couldn’t fit me in on a Saturday and that the coupon I was trying to use was for cheap brakes and he didn’t think I should use it. I called Monro and they were super nice, took my car in right away and quoted me a good price on tires. The customer service was great in comparison.

Great service! They always have specials on services. I spend a fraction of what I would anywhere else here. They listen to my layman description of what’s going on with my car and actually look for a problem. They find it and ask me what I want to do rather than just fixing it and charging me. Way cool!

Needed new tires, they gave me the lowest price. MUCH lower than other quotes. Should have been a warning sign. Replaced two rear tires, and supposedly balanced them all. On the expressway my care was shaking really bad. Called them, took it in again. Again, they supposedly balanced them again. Car then shook worse and now I have a sensor issue. The place seems a bit shady, and I took it to the dealership to have tires looked at. Would rather pay to have things fixed than take it back to his place. Don’t trust them, would not recommend using them.

I’m done with this place. Go here for just oil changes– nothing else. I have had 2 issues with this place so I am now done. I had let the first 1 slide since this place never gave me issues before, it’s proximity to my home, and it is generally inexpensive.
1) Last year I went in for an oil change. As always, I have them call me if anything else raises a red flag. So they called me saying I needed new breaks. Something did not seem right with that so I told them just to do the oil change. Well I went through my records– I had new breaks put on the car within the past 6 months. hmm odd. So i brought it to another place and they said my breaks were in fact fine, but my tires were shot. So I had to have my tires replaced, not my breaks.
2) I brought my car in there on 7÷15÷10 for an oil change. They did that and told me that my tires were not wearing properly so they rotated them and aligned them for me (total $ 200). I specifically scheduled the appointment then because I was driving to CT and wanted to make sure everything would be fine for the 180 mile drive. Well I get home, off the highway, and notice that something is loud, really loud. Well I have my car looked it and they say my muffler and catalytic converter are fine (good!) but the exhaust pipe connecting everything has a loose gasket. One bolt is missing and the other is rusted. This air tight seal was no longer air tight– making the loud noise and effecting my car’s performance.
I’m disappointed and annoying that the guys at Monro would not notice this. I admit that my car was not that loud prior to my appointment therefore I did not say thing about it, but they should have seen it since it was pretty visible with my car up on the lift.
Tired of their mistakes.

I cant speak for the auto repair work they do, but I went in for an oil change here and it was pretty painless. I went in with a coupon I got off the website for an oilchange, tire rotation, etc. for only $ 19.99…then got in and saw a banner that on Wednesdays «ladies» get an oil change for $ 17.99. Seems like a good deal — after taxes and fees it ended up being $ 24. Bit more than expected, but thats ok.
The manager there was very friendly and talkative, as it was a bit longer of a wait than expected because of another car before me.
It was a pretty decent location too, as I went to kill time across the street that had a couple of stores (e.g., an art store, city sports, etc). I think this place is great if you need an oil change — and they didnt try to tell me of all the other things that needs fixing — which seems to happen whenever I take the car in to the dealership

I reluctantly took my car here once because my friends raved and raved about how this place has been making their old cars run for years. Reluctantly, because I’m a loyal Chico’s Sunoco customer.
The guys at Monro seem like they know their stuff, I’ll give them that. But I shudder to think how much my friends have been paying them for service over the years.
My car needed a new starter. The labor rate was unexpectedly high, ostensibly because they know their stuff. But the parts cost was high too. I did some research online after they finished and found the same parts significantly cheaper. Strike one.
They also kept trying to talk me into having other repairs done. Another red flag for me.
Overall, the mechanics I talked to were extremely friendly and did seem quite knowledgeable. But when I balked at the bill, the guy I was talking to adopted that mechanic-​superiority air and seemed to get a bit defensive. His justifications sounded plausible, but he was acting fishy, like he’d gone into con-​man mode. Strike three.
Not the worst mechanic I’ve been to, for sure. The repairs they did seem to have held up. But, to make a Car Talk reference, I get the feeling like you’ll pay for what you get, and for their new boat, too.

Couldn’t have been a worse experience. Went in to repair warped back rotors and a broken headlight. It took 6 hours (way longer than either repair should take). They did a bunch of work we didn’t ask them to do, and charged us double what they quoted us on the phone. They couldn’t get the part to fix the broken headlight. So they suggested that we drive out to Stoughton to buy the reflector ourselves, and then bring it back so they could install it. Wait a minute – you want us to go out and buy a part for you? Isn’t that what we’re paying you $ 600 for?
A terrible experience. Make sure to lock in a concrete quote, or you’ll get shafted. Better yet, just don’t go to Monro at all. Probably the most insulting, unprofessional car service I’ve ever received.

Went here because I was having some major exhaust problems. After looking at my car, the manager informed me I’d need a new catalytic converter ($ 800 for the part alone). Fine.
Only problem, he never mentioned that the EPA requires converters to have a warranty of up to 8 years or 80,000 miles. My car was 6 years old and had under 80,000 miles. Of course why would he mention that, it would have cost him a $ 1000 repair. Don’t trust these guys!

If you looking for a descent shop for auto service, this is a nice place to start. Luis (the manager) is an honest guy, who’s not out to swindle you out of too much money. Some of the other guys in the shop, you may have to watch out for.
I would rec’d going to somewhere else first to get an estimate and go to monro for the next. You’ll see that, even if it’s a chain with chain prices, it’s not much more and they do a better job then some of the indy shops. Plus you can go to
for online coupons for whatever you’re looking for (usually 10−30%, but 10% min for anything).
What I had done:
1) exhaust pipe replacement -$ 300
2) control arm upper and lower — $ 630 (after cpn)
3) oil change– $ 22 (includes tax)
