Not too long ago, Olecito hung a poster that boasted their burritos were the best Boston had to offer. In what universe, I wonder, is this even remotely true? The service is slow and unpleasant, and orders are routinely lost or botched with little remorse. My friends have waited up to half an hour for their woefully understaffed crew to assemble a simple burrito. I’ve gotten undercooked rice and gristle in mine on several occasions, and I can attest that nothing ruins an appetite quicker. Please do not waste your money at Olecito, especially with Qdoba, Chipotle, Boloco, Ana’s Taqueria, El Pelón Taqueria, and countless others all within walking distance of this nightmare.

This was awful. And I don’t just mean awful in the sense that all east coast Mexican is compared to west coast — comparing apples to apples, this was probably the worst Mexican I’ve ever had on the east coast. When I dine at Qdoba or Chipotle(which is what I was expecting here), I’m able to acknowledge its lack of authenticity and enjoy it for what it is but this was just crap. I got the Chicken burrito combo, with a side of watered down soda and stale chips with a very stingy portion of fresh salsa. The innards of my burrito were as far from being mixed as possible i.e. my first bite of rice was my last bite of the burrito. I hope that BU students don’t grow up thinking this is «Mexican food» and instead think of it as a really really crappy late night Mexican joint. Even then I’m not sure I could stomache this.

This is not mexican. Its not even Taco Bell mexican. This was probably the worst wannabe mexican place I’ve ever been to in my life. I would not suggest this to anyone. It is not worth wasting your money, and you will be disappointed. Everything here is fake(guac included), and ew. ew! no!!! The only reason you would like this place is if you’ve never properly had good Mexican, or, you grew up in MA your whole life. In which case, I feel bad for you.

Olecito gets 2 stars for being awesomely accomodating to vegetarians. I came in, ordered my burrito, and was disgusted that there was meat all over the preparation counter. When my burrito«came up», they cleaned the counter, and also used a wax paper barrier between my tortilla and the counter. Nice! I think the guy making the burrito even changed his gloves. You don’t get service like that at most places! Olecito, however, gets no more stars than that. My burrito was not hot, it was not even warm. The«grilled» veggies were cool. The rice was cool. The beans, even, were just lukewarm. Also, talk about bland. The only thing in my burrito with any flavor was the jalapenos. I’m willing to give this place another try, but only because it’s a closer walk for me than going to Chipotle.

I was not sure what to expect from Olecito: The ratings are bad on Unilocal, but I’ve heard good things from some people. So, today I decided to give it a try. I’m not a burrito expert, but I have to say that I enjoyed my experience at Olecito. I had the braised pork burrito with cilantro rice, lettuce, pico de gallo, cheese, and avocado sauce(with a side of chipotle mayo). The meat was tender, everything was fresh, and they do not charge extra for guac or any of their special sauces. For only $ 5.85 I got a great burrito! I’m not going to say it’s the greatest, but for what it is and for what they serve, I give Olectio 5 stars.

Big fan here. I work near Kenmore, so Chipotle and Qdoba«used» to be staples in my diet until I discovered Olecito. I cannot say anything about their meat, but as as vegan, their grilled vegetable burrito is far better than than the other two. There is also a much better salsa selection and I love their cilantro rice(as opposed to their mexican rice).

No, no, no. Do not go here, especially with Anna’s, Chipolte, Qdoba, and I’m sure other mexican places around BU. The burritos have the consistency of oatmeal. What I mean by that is, it tastes like they threw all the ingredients into a blender, set it to purée, and wrapped them into a tortilla. That, along with the fact that my burrito has come apart both times I’ve been here, has made me vow never to waste my money here again. Just because it’s convenient doesn’t mean it’s worth getting a burrito. Just get a frozen one from City Co. next door.

I love the Olecito in Inman Square and go ALLTHETIME. While in the Kenmore area for work, I was psyched to see a new Olecito there. Yippee! Baja tacos FTW! Turns out, this location blows. My baja taco had ONESHRIMP in it and about three quarters of a cup of pickled cabbage. There were none of the sauces that the Inman square location uses. Just one shrimp and about half a head of cabbage. Gross. But worst of all, I ordered the churros, and instead of the doughy, yummy pastries at the Inman location, I got skinny, overly-fried, overly sugared once-frozen convenience store crap. Oh, and where’s the bottled coke and Boylan’s fountain drinks you have at the Inman location? PEPSI?! Gross. I’ll never visit here again and will tell all my Olecito-loving friends that they massively failed with this location.

I really like this place. Definitely get the burrito«in a bowl». Big meal for under $ 6. Quac included. Lots of hot sauce choices. Sometimes the meat and rice can be a bit dried out but usually the meat is good and juicy. There are only 2 seats(by the window) so this is really a takeout place.

I had the two taco combo, which was $ 8, plus $ 1 for my strawberry jarritos. Olecito ordering is the opposite of Chipotle, meaning you order first at the register and then you go down the food-making line. With your combo you get your choice of churros or chips and salsa or guac. I chose the chips, which were crispy and not too greasy or salty. I didn’t get the salsa or guac, so I can’t speak to those(as a side by themselves, chips with salsa is $ 3 and with guac $ 3.50, which is kind of outrageous). For my first taco I chose the carnitas, which the menu describes as «braised pork, with salsa verde, pineapple salsa, pickled cabbage.» The pork was delicious — very most and super-flavorful. I didn’t taste any salsa verde, but really that would have been unnecessary. My only complaint would be that the salsa and pickled cabbage is so wet that it really soaks the tortilla and makes it mushy. For my second taco I got the arrachera, which has marinated steak, refried beans, cheese, lettuce and avocado sauce(basically thinned guacamole). This one was less successful, just because it was so salty. I’m not exactly sure which element had so much salt, but the salt predominated. Otherwise it was your average steak taco. All in all, it was good. I would really like to try the tortas, specifically with the flavorful pork. Also note that the tacos are so stuffed and juicy that it’s basically impossible to eat them with your hands — you need a plate and fork.

I don’t write many reviews cause I usually am too lazy. For some reason I wanted to defend Olecito today. I am a new student at BU and have frequented Olecito about 4 – 5 times so far. I have only tried their chicken burritos and a torta sandwich once. I think their burritos are awesome. With other places after I eat a burrito(Qdoba) my stomach feels like I swallowed a brick of ingredients that don’t mesh well and are too oily. So far I have always felt good after eating their burritos. As for the freshness of ingredients I’m no expert like some of the other reviewers but the ingredients seem as fresh as anywhere else. I also like that you don’t have to pay extra for guacamole. Overall I’d say try their chicken burrito(I think it taste pretty good) and if you don’t like it then this isn’t the place for you.

I’m, um, shocked and wtf and generally ?!? about how few stars this place has. Granted, I never did make it to the Inman location(despite its proximity to my apartment). But biz took me to BU, and eating here seemed like a better alternative than Subway or Chipotle. So I ordered the Yucateca Torta, went for a walk on the Charles, and plopped down on a bench on a windy day. As I was trying to dig out the delicious, amazingly fatty(in a good way) pork, I wrestled with my napkin too much… and lost my monthly train card. $ 59 lost in the wind. But my torta was so damned good, I didn’t care. The end.

Shameful. A disgrace to the name of Olecito. The Inman Square location is fantastic, and I had incredibly high hopes for the one at BU, but this place doesn’t even begin to measure up. There was only one person staffing the place when I went in a little after 6:00 on a weeknight(during the school year). The line was enormous. I almost left after i waited more than ten minutes without ordering. I wish I had. The meat in my burrito(chicken) was ground into tiny crumbles, and the entire thing was flavorless. And unlike the other Olecito location, no free chips/salsa. I asked for a small container of salsa to have with my burrito(and was even willing to pay for it) but the guy forgot to put it in the bag. There was nothing positive about this experience.

I would disregard most of the reviews on this location of Olecito. Look the food is the main thing and it tastes really great even though yes they are a bit slow here and the seating situation is ridiculous and what is there two seats if that yes that needs correcting if it”s logistically possible. Hey if I were still going to school here I would be frequenting it often and nearby if you go to bu west campus there is a uburger and panera but that gets old fast so I do recommend this place just be ready to make it a to go order. I ordered a chicken burrito and I recommend it to anybody it’s quite good! The price was reasonable too. Just bring patience for the slow service I was there when it was empty and it was still a bit hmm disjointed and slow service. I could give them 3.5 stars but sticking to 4 stars.

Worst tacos in Boston. Second runner up to the Worst Tacos I’ve Ever Had.(Those were the result of a desparate and ballsy move by my friend one summer… Hard tacos filled with silken tofu = eww). Olecito claims its ingredients to be fresh, but canned refried beans masquerading as pinto beans are anything but. Also working against Olecito’s favor is the method and carefulness of ingredient chopping. Skilled knivesmen these are not. Giant slices of steak and cuts of lettuce fit for a salad make these tacos impossible to eat. One last thing. There’s supposed to be a difference in size between a taco and a burrito. Olecito doesn’t get it. I think, in an institutional effort to show their value to hungry college kids, Olecito makes their tacos so big that you can’t even pinch them together. Hey if I wanted a big-ass burrito I’d order one. But not from Olecito.

There are so many options in Kenmore, you should just skip Olecito. The atmosphere is crap and the folks working behind the counter were first rude, then slow. I had a quesadilla, which came out looking more like a burrito with no rice or beans. Once I got over the fact that it just didn’t look right, I had to deal with the fact that the cheese wasn’t melted and the veggies and salsa just were not great. My friend got the chicken torta and liked it, so maybe that’s the way to go if you want to check it out.

i can’t exactly pinpoint what it is about this place that is so «blah» to me. i mean, i got my burrito, it tasted okay, it wasn’t too expensive, it was decently sized and it wasn’t leaky. i guess i was just expecting something better/fresher/more unique. i got a grilled veggie burrito which only had 4 pieces of grilled veggies in it. as others have said, the place was really tiny, and i imagine as they’re trying to get settled in things are moving a little slower than they’d like. i’m sure i’ll go back cuz if i feel like a burrito it’s the closest place to my office by far. their location may be what keeps them in business, or maybe they’ll start to get their act together. but for now, the food and the service are both just«meh» to me. i sort of wish it were a boloco instead — i like having a tofu protein option.

I stopped in last night to check this place out. As Ari F. says, it is super tiny and it is not the most welcoming atmosphere. You come in and all you see is a soda cooler to your right, the cash register in the center and the food preparation area off to your left. No seating whatsoever. I was confused about whether to order, get the food then pay or order and pay at the cash register then get the food. They need to have a sign indicating where you should begin here. I asked and was told you order and pay, then get the food. This is a little counterintuitive because the food preparation area is actually closer to you when you enter the store. The menu is very small. They have tacos, tortas and burritos and sodas. That’s it. I ordered the Baja taco. One taco, and it is small and it is $ 2.75. The tortas are around $ 6 and the burritos are around $ 5. The Baja taco had one piece of battered shrimp in it, some cabbage and two very tasty sauces. The manager made it for me since they were apparently lacking in staff and he kept glancing at the menu board to remind himself of the ingredients. That kind of made me nervous but it ended up being quite tasty. I especially liked the sauces. What I did not like was that they used TWO tortillas. Why? Eating it with two tortillas was way too much on the tortilla taste so I just threw one out. I would have preferred a larger taco or a smaller price than two tortillas. I feel strongly about this. This seems very wasteful to me. I’d like to come back and try a burrito and a torta. This place has potential but please, management of Olecito: 1.) Get an ‘ORDERHERE” sign 2.) Lose the second tortilla and adjust the price or size of the tacos accordingly.

Replacing Ferretti’s sandwich shop inside the Warren Towers Dorm at BU, this take-out-only burrito joint could use some more expertise and/or authenticity. With no seating whatsoever and a rope to guide your movements, the interior feels more like an assembly line than a food purveyor. The flavor in my veggie burrito was decent, but its construction was decidedly poor– wet, sloppy, and with heterogeneous distribution of ingredients. Now I love a big bite of sour cream just as much as the next chap, but the other 20 bites were jealous for a piece of the creamy action. And while I firmly believe in Chef Gousteau’s claim that«Anyone can cook», the awkwardly sassy fellows processing my order seemed neither committed to burrito excellence nor did they appear to possess the benefit of a cultural heritage that includes a long and rich history of burrito-making.
