Our House East

Terrible, horrible, horrendous, just plain awful service. I want to make this helpful, our waitress was like nothing we have ever experienced. After three consecutive times with her not taking both peoples order at the table, I was so fed up and decided to confront her. I asked for her to close out our tab and cancel any remaining orders, she looked at me with confusion as if she had no idea what I was referring to. I bluntly said you did not take my order on multiple occasions and you took our menus before we could even order. I was fed up, I decided to come to Unilocal to read some reviews and found this has happened to a lot people. It amazes me that a bar in Boston would be able to last this long and the managers or owners not know exactly who the problem is. I will never go back, and I hope this helps the owners or managers to better train their staff.

This bar looks fun for a college student. Packed with northeastern kids.
Not sure if it’s a quality restaurant but they do have food.
If your young (student or under 30) then this bar can be a good hang out.

Standing in this bar for 20 minutes. Asked bartender for a drink and she clearly can’t handle the very small crowd. Uselessly, manager sitting and reading his book only looks over at everyone, but can’t be bothered to get up.
Terrible place. Avoid it.

WORST. SERVICE. OF. ALL. TIME.
First of all, let me preface this review by saying I currently work, have worked for many years, in the service industry so I will be the first to admit that I can be a bit of a tough customer when out at any restaurant. However, anyone with an expectation of minimal, yet satisfactory service should avoid Our House East like the Black Plague.
I live right around the corner, so my boyfriend and I decided to venture to Our House for a bite to eat and a couple beers. There was no sign indicating we needed to be seated, so we sat down at a high top and proceeded to wait for 15 minutes while a bevy of servers bussed the tables immediately beside us without so much as an acknowledgment of our presence. Finally, a waitress wandered over and gave us menus after we indicated that we wanted to have dinner. She was very young, probably 19 – 20 tops, and didn’t ID either of us when we ordered our beers (there was no bouncer at the door and the clientele of this place is almost strictly NU students). After we placed our orders, my salad came out first, followed by my boyfriend’s sandwich and the appetizer we wanted to start with. The food was actually quite good, especially for the very reasonable price, so we entertained ourselves eating and watching the NFL draft. We both were running low on beer, so I looked over towards the service station at the bar to find out waitress, and she was sitting down at the bar drinking a beverage that may or may not have been alcoholic surrounded by friends having a vey animated conversation, completely oblivious to our table. This continued for nearly 15 minutes. She then wandered back over and cleared our plates without asking if we were finished eating (my boyfriend was not, coincidentally) and cleared his ¼ full beer glass before he could finish it.
We were obviously chatting about the poor service and unprofessionalism and both of us assumed that there was no way there could be a manager on duty, and then lo and behold the manager appears and starts to unlock the employee’s only bathroom behind us, only to find not one, but THREE female waitresses having a pow wow inside. He then gives them a little «nudge» to get back to work, and the girls seemingly completely ignore him and do not exit until many minutes later.
At this point, the industry girl in me is practically seething, so I am very, VERY ready to get out of here. Of course, as soon as we said we wanted to close out, our waitress was very prompt in printing our check and running our cards. However, as if there needed to be ANY more icing on the cake of this service nightmare fuel, she dropped our check back off with her left hand while checking and responding to a text on her cell phone in her right hand.
Needless to say we will NEVER come back to this place, which is a shame because of its convenience and decent bar food. I get that you cater to a very young, college-​age crowd, the vast majority of whom could care less about efficient and professional service, but take pity on the rest of us. Please Our House East, clean house and start your hiring from scratch.

My fiancé and I came here for paintnite (which was wonderful), but we will never come back to this place and don’t understand how paintnite could chose to hold an event here. I hate to write bad reviews of local businesses, but this was one of the worst experiences we have had.
The bathrooms are disgusting and completely unsanitary: the floors are sticky, the tiles are broken, the toilet seats are made for different toilets (so you sit on the bowl), the hand dryer doesn’t work, there are no towels, and there was no soap. How employees can use this bathroom, wash their hands, and return to handling food without a health violation is beyond me!
My fiancé’s food was ok, but my medium burger was scorched beyond recognition. Of course, this was when we were actually able to order from the 4 people behind the bar who could care less that we were there or wanted to order.
We get that this business seems to be struggling and are in the process of hiring new people, so maybe the food and service can be excused, but there is no excuse for the bathroom conditions.
I hope something drastic changes quickly. Being a college hang out is one thing, but this is a whole other level.

The staff is so friendly and fun! Classic bar food and inexpensive drinks. Great place to go before 1am.

Had such a fantastic time here! The food was exactly what I expected it to be and the bartender had a pretty ok butt.

TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE!!! Refusing a veteran with a service dog!!! Like really a veteran who fought for our country for your freedom to own a place? Not worth dealing with an establishment who doesn’t value our vets! Will advocate strongly for others to bypass this ignorant place! I would give no stars but Unilocal forces me to choose 1 star

Good beer, nice location, raucus college environment. Marginal bar food. Soups may be best, wings not great, the usual burgers.

This review is in the context of Paint Nite, for which I discovered Our House East. The place was a typical bar/​lounge. One side was set up for the paint session, and the other side was for eating/​drinking. Very low key and casual. I didn’t have any food so I can’t comment on that. The bartender absolutely didn’t know how to make a lemon drop martini, and I had to keep sending it back, asking for the manager to make it instead. Her version appeared in a regular drinking glass and tasted like orange juice. Otherwise the night was a big hit with Paint Nite. Great date activity or social gathering. The emcee artist was fun and engaging, very outgoing and helpful. He paced the class well and gave encouragements along the way. The camera man was unintrusive and welcoming. The photos came out wonderful! Much better than I was expecting — I probably would have paid for a photo or two in hard copy format! They worked great as a time. The painting was cute and creative, simple enough to follow.

Service in here is shocking. Like staring through a wall. Hello. I am a customer and would like to buy a drink. Felt like I walked into a strangers home. Was getting ready for someone to call the police. Other than that. Cute place. Dive bar vibe. Food is incredible for a dive bar. Yummmm!

Back in my hay day i frequented the regular our house. They had couches, brewbakers and board games. And it was cheap!
Coming here I can’t help but wonder why this version thrived and the other failed. Could it be the $ 7 (8?) pitchers of PBR. The foozball? The relatively proximity to North Eastern? OK so its got a few things going.
Service, couches, general atmosphere? Not so much. You could check it out if your looking to rage, but otherwise I’m not into it.

I came here for paint nite with a group of friends and we had a blast at this place. While the space could have been bigger for the painting stations, the area was clean when we were here. Waitresses consistently checked in on us without being overly annoying while we were painting, but the food and the drinks could be a whole deal better. We ordered a cheeseburger as well as chicken and chips. The cheeseburger was overly seasoned by black pepper (I almost choked on the thing!) and the chicken tenders were minuscule and tasteless. The fries were the only good part about their food.
I can see this bar being a trashy place for college hookups and a convention for drunk douchebag has beens, but just get there at the appropriate time and you’ll avoid that crowd.

Terrible service. There were 6 ladies working and all of them ignored us for the first 5 minutes. They were lazing around, on phones and chatting and no one else was even at the bar. The layout here is weird, too, with a few joint rooms. I don’t like it.

Never again. The worst service and food I’ve ever had. There were several items on the menu that we ordered and then turned out not to be available. This wouldn’t have been as big of an issue if we had been told right away-​not 30 minutes after we ordered. The table next to us never even got served! Our server’s excuse for the slow service was that the kitchen was backed up yet there were only about 10 people in the whole place. We were also charged for items that were not available. I will not be coming back here.

This was not an exciting bar, by any means — here’s why:
1) Clearly meant for NU students, but on a Thursday Night the only crowd was a visiting conference
2) Bar was WAY understaffed with only one slow bartender at the two bars
3) Freakishly cold dark, chill bar vs. too bright and bland warm dining room and bar space made for no comfortable choice for hanging out
Overall, it was a boring place that could improve with louder, more interesting music and more bartenders as opposed to waiters.

A testament to the theory that college kids are willing to overpay for beer if you shove them onto a small dance floor and blast music, Our House is easily the most miserable bar experience a sober person will endure in Boston. When you’re not there during peak blackout drunk hours, the food is depressing and it’s difficult to see what exactly anyone sees in this place.
That being said, Northeastern students will forever flock to this establishment like drunk moths to a flame as they stumble back towards campus. Maybe there is just something so enticing about awkwardly bumping into people you haven’t seen since freshman year. All I know is that it is my moral and ethical responsibility to let the world know that this place should be avoided.

Definitely for college aged kids. The food during the day tastes like average bar food. The beer is good, but the hard drinks are too expensive.
They do have some pitcher specials, like $ 9 Miller.
This place gets really trashy around 12:30 am Thursday-​Saturday. You’ll see short skirts, crop tops and lots of grinding.

Over-​priced dive bar, really no other way to say it. They do have $ 9 pitchers of some Miller swill, but that’s about the only redeeming thing about this place. The food is pretty cheap, but it’s pretty bad. Stop by around midnight if you want to get swarmed with sweaty, shitfaced Northeastern undergrads. Very generic place.

If you love to Karaōke, you have to come to Our House East on Tuesday and Wednesday nights! I like to go on Wednesday nights, when Paul the KJ is there hosting the evening! It is a lot of fun. The sound system that Paul has blows others in town away. Plus, the venue is small and intimate and fun late at night. If you come on a Wednesday near the end of a semester (Our House East is located next to a college campus), you better get there early! I have seen it be standing room only on these nights and there’s still a long line outside of people wanting to get into the place.
Come on a Wednesday and make sure to let Paul know that Brad sent you and he will certainly take care of you. Finally, look for «special Elvis» to appear about 11:30 pm on Wednesday night! He’s a trip… and real entertainer and a nice, good hearted guy! He has his own brand of singing and he’s a riot to listen and watch. You will love his performances!
