Patisserie on Newbury

I don’t know if I just didn’t order my coffee and chocolate croissant correctly but I was surprised (with the inside decorated to look so quaint and cosy) that they didn’t ask me if I wanted it warmed and just gave it to me in a paper bag.
So assuming I was too passive and putting that aside. The chocolate croissant was pretty bleh.
The dough was flaky and not too dry, but the chocolate was nonexistent. I should have taken a pic of it, but it was basically four bits of chocolate poking out at the edges and almost none inside. I know when I make pain au chocolat that I put four pieces (essentially a row) in each bread. If I’m really indulgent I’ll put two rows.
Other than that, the coffee was good and strong, inside décor is cute as heck.

Delicious Sunday morning treats. I was looking for a fast and delicious breakfast on Newbury and Patisserie was perfect. I tried the egg/​red bell pepper pastry and blueberry danish both were delicious. It smelled so great in there I grabbed a loaf of crusty bread to go. I will be back to try their sandwiches and cheese platters when the weather is nicer for an easy Charles River picnic for sure!

This place had excellent coffee and the best croissant I’ve had in the United States. Favorite stop on Newbury Street.

This pretty little Shop would be good were it not for two issues: it is overpriced and the service doesn’t make up for it. I had a sandwich and a soda for 15 USD and maybe I’m to much of a whiner but I want a free smile with that.
Sad to say I have received consistently better service at any old Starbucks. Not going back because Newbury St. has so much more to offer in the same price range.

Had the spinach and egg/​bell pepper pastries. The flavor, texture, and appearance was perfect and much cheaper than getting something rather ordinary from the coffee shop in the lobby of my hotel. This may become my go-​to spot for a quick breakfast during my conference at the Hynes Convention Center.

Having such a nice bakery in your neighborhood is a blessing! Love their breads (especially the miche)! We also get cheese plates for our guests for our wine gatherings — highly recommended!

Just finished a 10 mile run along the Charles River and wanted a good cup of coffee and something special from a local bakery. Using my handy dandy Unilocal app I found the Patisserie and I’m very glad I did! When I first walked in the place it smelled awesome — like a real bakery (imagine that!). My first problem was to decide which of all the many items they had I should try. So I went for the old standby — pain au chocolat! And I had two — hey, I just ran 10 miles so I earned it! The coffee was great — dark, rich, and hot! They have sandwiches, cheese, sandwich meat, and other deli items. A great find that I highly recommend.

Delicious pastries, coffee & sandwiches. It was like being back in Paris! The macaroons were divine. Baguettes, cheeses, meats & pastries, what more could a girl want!
We enjoyed our coffee & confections on their sunny patio, it was perfect. My husband had a to die for cinnamon bun & I had my almond croissant, both perfect!
We took away jambon & frommage croissants that were delicious! I would recommend Patisserie on Newberry!

Let me first point out that there are no two people with the same palette.
That being said, some things here, i like better than other things.
All of their items are imported, local or made in-​house. You can count on their service. If you can’t find something you’re looking for, they’ll order it for you!
They have sandwich and drink combos for $ 14! Their sandwiches have fresh ingredients between freshly baked in-​house bread. ~$ 9 if you opt for just the sandwich. A bit much for a «sub» sandwich.
Their pastries are very european in flavor and decadence. It wont be as sweet as American pastries, nor will they be as sugary. They appreciate the flavor of things AS THEY SHOULD BE without being tainted by salts and sugars. I love all their pastries. Never been disappointed.
Go in with an open mind. There are other levels of taste, flavor and decadence besides overly fatty, overly sugary/“too sweet” and overbearing. Don’t compare with some American café when you walk in.

Kate McKinnon, from SNL, just gave Patisserie a huge «shout out» during her pre– Emmy interview. Now I have to check it out!

Stopped here while I was discovering Newburry Street, I gotta say they have decent quality for French pastries. The Danish and croissant were good, they were soft and buttery. There was quite a lot of seats inside the bakery since it was weekday.
Well spent money here!

Heraclitus said you may never step into the same river twice, but you can step into the same trendily designed overpiced pastry shop over and over again, in any city in the world. Patisserie, the new English vernacular for «overpriced pastry shop» is just another iteration in a long line of such shops.
The pastries are truly fine– in the sense that it seems like you were fined a great sum of money for aspiring to trendier things. Were they delicious? Probably ⁷⁄₁₀. Was a lemon-​circle-​thing worth 6 $. Indubitably not; the cream inside was delicious but the praises end there. The cookies were also good, but was it thaaat great. No.
Having had my wallet plundered in broad daylight, I left with a brown sugar cube, despite not having ordered a coffee as one final hurrah in defense of the robbed aspiring foodies everywhere.
Try a different trendy bakery guys.

Since living in France, I have developed an insatiable need for French pastries. I say insatiable not to be dramatic or snobby, but because American bakeries rarely achieve the quality of their French counterparts. For me, Pâtisserie on Newbury is one of the few bakeries that can meet that need.
While small, it offers a variety of cakes, tarts, and pastries, as well as sandwiches and imported items. The pain au chocolat is perfectly buttery, flaky, and decadent. The palmier is exceptional. I’m not usually impressed with them, but this one is caramelized and crunchy without being too crumbly. What I truly love here is the selection of mini pastries. If you can’t commit to just one, you can order several for only $ 2 a piece. The selection varies by day, but all have been delicious.
As other reviewers have mentioned, there isn’t any seating so you will have to wait to eat your selections. Sometimes the service is good, and other times it is abysmal. Nonetheless, if you need a taste of France and you find yourself on Newbury, Pâtisserie is an excellent choice.

We decided to drop by Patisserie on Newbury as I had it bookmarked and we were trying to kill some time. I wish we were hungrier, so we could’ve gone to Shake Shack across the street, but we only wanted something small to snack on.
The shop was empty on a weekday afternoon and they had plenty of desserts to choose from. Craig P. chose a slice of Raspberry Chocolate Cake. The presentation and packaging was pretty, practical, and easy to open. The cake was good, not terrible, but to be honest, I don’t remember much in hindsight. It didn’t leave a lasting impression on me.
There are no seats inside the bakery, so we had to sit outside, which was kind of awkward ’cause supposedly the seating space belongs to the restaurant next door. We also had our luggage with us and couldn’t bring it with us to the eating area due to small space; so we had to leave our luggage out in the front.
I probably wouldn’t come back again.

The best pistachio macaron and savory pastry I’ve ever eaten. Get the leek Parmesan Danish heated up — it’s life changing! Can’t wait to go back again.

Meh. It was not bad. But, a few things. First, coffee. Watery, and mostly acids, not that nice dark caramel-​y French Roast. It’s called French Roast for a reason. Second, the very fancy mini cakes are not nearly as good as the much cheaper Viennoiserie (croissants, brioche, etc.) I will say that my palmier was the best I’ve had in years. It would have been better had the guy behind the counter actually understood «palmier» and not tried to give me a chocolate cookie, until his compatriot pointed at the sign saying «palmier». Third, no seating or place to enjoy your treat. I mean, c’mon, even the holes in the wall have a counter to stand and eat/​drink. Work out a deal with Roost already.
I would not turn it down were I standing right outside and hungry at the time, but I’m not coming out of my way again. Back it Flour or Tatte, which have their own noticeable flaws, but still manage to beat this independent.

This place is wonderful! The owner is the sweetest person and you can tell she really takes pride in what she does. She was so accommodating by letting me and my sister try so many things before we purchased them.
We tried different pâté flavors and loved them all we couldn’t even chose which was better. We ended up getting some pâté and a baguette to have over wine later on at home.
We also got some of the macaroons as well… I’ve had macaroons all over the world including France and these were pretty good! When I am newbury I now make sure to always stop by and get a few macaroons as I stroll along and you should too! You won’t be disappointed!

I’ve worked in a french pastry shop, so the smell was familiar and welcoming. I was surprised by the different types of things they were selling in there, from cheeses, hams, to cakes, jams, etc. What an adorable parisian patisserie! I’ve tried their coffee (with hazelnut), mini pumpkin tarts, and the opera cake. Everything was quite delicious, and even though I don’t like pumpkin at all, I thought their tart was pretty good. It was also glittery, which would get any girl to like it haha. The opera, was dense, sweet, and just melted in your mouth. Very very good.
There are two reasons why this place wouldn’t get 5 stars even though everything I tasted was delicious.
1. No seating when the restaurant upstairs is busy! That’s unfortunate! I would have liked to enjoy my pastries and coffee, but had to take it to go because the outdoor seating they had outside was technically the restaurants.
2. No espresso machine — They only have a drip coffee machine, so they will be unable to make any espresso-​based coffees, like lattes, cappuccinos, etc. The coffee they served wasn’t bad, but it would have been better for a patisserie to have an espresso machine to have a wider range of coffee for the sweet tooth out there.

The croissants here taste just like the ones in Paris!!!
Ever since my 7 week stay in Paris I’ve been in search of a perfect croissant and baguette. Le Sigh… After a 2 year long and arduous search I’VE FOUND IT! The only place that offers a taste of Paris!!!
The store is quaint, like the patisseries in France and offer a wonderful assortment of beverages and baked goods. The pastries are very reasonable priced and so fresh! There isn’t any seating, however, there are bistro tables and chairs just out front that belong to their neighboring restaurant. If you’re lucky and get a nice server they’ll let you sit there and eat if it’s empty (just be sure to clean up after yourself properly when you’re done).
I’m happy I don’t live too close to this place because the temptation of frequenting it at least a few times a week would be hard to overcome.
Goodies other than the croissants:
They sell these delicious little spicy cheese crackers that would top off any soup marvelously.
Try the Leek and Parmesan pastry! SOOOOO good!

I’m a stickler when it comes to French bakeries and a skeptic when it comes to food establishments on this street, but Patisserie was a pleasant surprise. I won’t say it surpasses Clear Flour or Flour but it’s a decent alternative.
The macarons are a good deal and they’re pretty respectable. They came in four flavors when I got them, with raspberry being the best flavor. The macaron had a firm exterior and a soft, rich interior with flavorful jam. The plain croissant isn’t too greasy but definitely not dry. It’s crispy on the outside and soft inside.
The prices are fair for the area and the service was decent.
