Family owned and run for decades, Pauli’s has been providing take out and catering to the North End and Boston. Our menu features a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, wraps, breakfast items, and entrees sure to please any customer. History

Established in 1986.

«Mama was born in Orsogna, Italy in 1939. She grew up in a small rural town. While my grandparents worked the family farm, my great grandmother taught Mama traditional Italian dishes including homemade pasta, sauces, and desserts. In 1953, during the height of Italian immigration, my grandparents moved to the US in search of better opportunities. Mama grew up in the suburbs of Boston. Eventually she got married, and raised a family (including of course, yours truly)! True to Italian culture, food brought friends and family together, and Mama always took great care in preparing and serving each and every course.

In 1986, Mama accomplished her lifelong dream of opening a restaurant. Nicole’s quickly became a crowd favorite in the North End and Boston started experiencing what meals were always like in our house. These days, Mama is retired and is working on her cookbook and helping me at Pauli’s.» –Pauli

I started working in the North End in my family’s food businesses when I was just eight years old. Back then, the North End was a neighborhood where everybody actually knew your name, and «freshness, quality and value» weren’t just trendy catch phrases – they were simply expected.

Today, Pauli’s is based on that same philosophy. We believe you deserve food that’s always served wicked fresh, that always tastes crazy good and that doesn’t cost a lot of money. First stop in Boston was Pauli’s. We were looking for a restaurant that was known for their lobster roll. Stumbled upon this place through Unilocal.Ordered 2 lobster rolls with fries — one hot with butter and one cold just to compare. I swear they probably stuffed 2 lobsters each order. The bun was also fluffy and buttery. I would definitely come back here.

I had the lobsta roll! Delicious! Everything looked amazing, but since I was visiting from out of town I had to give the lobsta roll a try!

5 stars because the pauli-​tician is an awesome sandwich.
Everyone generally comes here to try the lobster rolls but seeing that you can get that literally everywhere else in town, I opted for the pauli-​tician. Best decision of my weekend. The pauli-​tician is a ginormous sandwich made of two chicken cutlets, prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, basil, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. You’ll taste the chicken cutlet in each bite but I believe the star ingredients that tied the sandwich together was oddly, the olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Both ingredients bring a balance between the cutlet and mozzarella cheese. Without it, the pauli-​tician which would have been just like any tomato sauce soaked chicken parm sandwich. If I’m ever in boston again, I’d definitely come back here for that sandwich.

I’ve been eager to come check out Pauli’s hot, buttery lobster roll because I’d heard that it was severely underrated and comparable to their neighbor, Neptune Oyster.
Maybe it was because I went in November and it’s just not lobster season but I was pretty decidedly disappointed. The lobster roll is small, though loaded with lobster, but the bun itself is small. My biggest qualm with it is that it was very salty – I don’t know if it was the butter or the lobster itself, but it was a little overpowering and the delicate lobster flavors I enjoy didn’t come through. The lobster was also a little tough. It wasn’t by any means bad but for roughly the same price as its neighbor, the one next door is still worth waiting in line for.

Tasty lobster roll.
Pauli’s is definitely one of my go to lobster roll joints. I’ve gotten it tossed in butter (for an extra $ 2) every time and it has been worth it IMO. The roll is small, but it is packed with fresh claw meat. It will fill you up more than you think it will.
The restaurant is pretty small and casual so I recommend coming for a quick stop. You can then go to a café or a bar if you want to hang out after dinner. For lobster rolls this good, you usually have to wait in line, but I’ve never had to wait at Pauli’s.
They have tons of other stuff on the menu, but I find it hard to stray from the roll.

Large menu that seems all over the place, but the lobster rolls were legit. Not sure if it’s necessarily worth the extra $ 2 to get it in hot butter instead of cold, but hey, when you’re visiting boston and want a no-​frills lobster roll (and don’t want to wait 2 hours+ at Neptune Oyster next door, this is a great place to go!

I came here with a group of friends at around 1:40pm. The restaurant is not ideal for group settings due to limited seating. The setup is order and carryout or eat at the place. It wouldn’t be bad to order to go and eat outside if it is nice out.
Da Lobsta roll ($ 15.99) — looks small, but it is actually packed with lobster meat (delicious) and filling if you eat it with some chips [it comes with a bag of chips].
*if you want the lobster meat tossed in warm butter, it is an option for $ 2 more. It was still tasty w/​out having it tossed in warm butter.
Bottled drinks — start around $ 2.99
I would come here again to eat a Lobster Roll or maybe try some other items on their menu.

Ended up here by chance — the spot my friends I were going to try for lunch was packed so we gave Pauli’s a try. It did not disappoint.
Upon the recommendation of Unilocalers everywhere, I ordered the hot lobster roll with butter. Delicious. Large portion of lobster, covered in hot, melted butter. Perfect lunch.
Can’t wait to come back and try a few other items that looked appetizing on the menu.

We were on a mission to eat as many lobster rolls as humanly possible during our weekend trip to Boston.
Came here and tried the HOT lobster roll since this placed really good reviews. UH so good. We will admit that we didn’t know what to expect after reading that the lobster roll came on a hot dog bun… our mistake for even hesitating. The lobster roll was very good and had great flavor. To be honest, we found this hot lobster roll to be better than the one we had at Neptune Oyster right next door.
Ambience: Small. Very casual. A few tables available to scarf down you food.
Service: Quick. We ordered and had our food within a few minutes.
Overall: Great hot lobster roll. Would come back here to try the cold one the next time we are in town. Also, a great price on the lobster roll! $ 19 ($ 2 premium for the hot roll)

So glad we picked this place for lunch. Sat down to debate what to order and one of the guys who worked there, Bill, struck up a conversation. Extremely friendly, familiar with the area where we’re staying, he gave us tons of recommendations that were super helpful. Made all the difference in our experience!
Ordered the California wrap, which was big and delicious w/​avocado, cucumber, and chicken. And then had our first Lobster roll in Boston, cold and so tasty! He suggested the roll vs the sub because of the lobster to bread ratio and he was right. It was perfect. Came with chips as well.
We had a great lunch, friendly conversation, and got travel tips from a local. Can’t ask for anything more!

When I asked for recommendations on places to eat while visiting Boston Pauli’s came up many times. This unassuming sandwich shop in the north end serves up phenomenal made-​to-​order sandwiches. I wasn’t going to come all the way to Boston without indulging in a lobster roll and Pauli’s is where I got my fix. I opted for the 7 ounce lobster roll (cold) served up proper in a hotdog bun. All the lobster rolls I have eaten previously had way too much mayonnaise and were served in a humungous brioche bun and while filling you don’t really taste the main ingredient. At Pauli’s you can SEE the lobster meat and TASTE the delicious lobster that has the slightest hint of mayo. I loved the roll and haven’t stopped thinking about it since.

Pauli’s mission is to serve the community fresh delicious food that doesn’t cost a lot of money. You can order online, they do have bike delivery service and the offer catering too.

I decided to give Pauli’s a try after being disappointed by my experience at Neptune’s Oyster the night before. I ordered a «hot» roll with the lobster tossed in butter for $ 18.99 (extra $ 2 charge for the butter). The wait was less than 15 minutes and I received my order in a plastic container with a small bag of potato chips on the side. Taking my lobster roll, I walked to North End Park and sat down at a table to eat.
My first bite of the lobster roll was a burst of flavor with the smooth, warm butter coating the delicate lobster meat. The plentiful portion of meat was cushioned in a very soft bread-​roll. The amount of flavor instantly redeemed my first impression of lobster rolls. The lobster was not too chewy nor stringy. The coated butter provided a perfect balance to the natural flavors of the lobster. The potato chips also complemented the overall meal.
The highlight of my experience at Pauli’s however, came minutes into eating my lobster roll. While eating, I was approached by a casually dressed man who asked me how my lobster roll was. It turns out that man (named Bill) was a Pauli’s employee who had recognized me upon leaving work. I proceeded to tell Bill how delicious the roll was, and we ended up having a pleasant conversation (thank you Bill for being so friendly to a first timer in Boston!).
Needless to say, I will definitely be coming back to Pauli’s in the future.

While on a trip to Boston, how can one not devour a lobsta roll? Coming from upstate NY, not many places offer this lobster delicacy and especially one showered in a hot buttery bath. With chunks of sweet and tender lobsta on a lightly toasted and buttered hot dog bun, I am not one to resist. Lobster + butter + me = happiness.
With two choices: light mayo dressed ($ 15.99) vs. hot buttered, I wanted to go purist. The hot butter was an additional cost ($ 2). The meat to bun ratio was perfect. My warm lobsta roll had large chunks of claw and knuckle meat. I can see why some people say it is somewhat a small sized lobsta roll compared to all the mouthwatering photos taken, but it was fulfilling and did not leave my stomach disappointed. The lobsta roll comes with a bag of potato chips but I decided to swap it with french fries with an up charge of a few bucks ($ 3)? That was totally worth it… the fries were nice and crisp, I had a side of ketchup but they were packed with flavor by itself.
While Pauli’s is more of a grab and go spot, they do have a few tables plus a table full of condiments and napkins. The service was quick and we also got cups for ice water. The place filled quickly so definitely get here early if you want to eat it right away while it is still «fresh». So if you want to have some pure decadence and not have to wait 2+ hours next door… I’d give Pauli’s a try for all your lobsta roll needs. There’s even lobsta grilled cheese, lobsta mac n cheese, breakfast sandwiches, Italian deli sandwiches, wings, and more. (Don’t forget there are small and large sized lobsta rolls like the Lobstitution! Oh yeah!)

We ended up backtracking to Pauli’s after realizing that the North End Fish Market had no seats. Typical sized North End eatery means seating space is limited though people chow down and move along quickly. We of course had the lobster rolls, hot for me and cold for the boy. The hot is dipped in butter and comes with a $ 2 up charge at $ 18.99. Both rolls came with a heaping portion of lobster and a bag of Utz potato chips.
I found the lobster fresh, but the hot dog roll it came on a bit lumpy. It didn’t seem like it was toasted either for the cold version. Kind of wished they gave you fries or homemade chips, something that requires a little more effort than a bag that came off the conveyor belt. All in all, Pauli’s lobster rolls are priced well and far cheaper than some of the other options in the area. I don’t usually crave lobster rolls, but we’ll be sure to return when friends are in town looking for a yummy roll.
p. s. They have an extensive menu beyond lobster rolls. My friend had the big boy burger. I can’t speak to taste, but it looked like the burger was once q frozen patty.

Spending an evening in the North End on a June Saturday reminded me of why I usually only go during the winter. After being told 2+ hour waits for dinner at 4 restaurants, we gave up and went to Pauli’s. I’ve been here before and knew it was a solid place for lobster rolls and my out-​of-​state friends wanted seafood.
I wasn’t feeling lobstah roll (sorry for the blasphemy, New England) so I got the Pauli-​tician which is a huge sandwich of chicken cutlet, prosciutto, mozzarella, tomato, and basil stuffed in a roll. I only had half which left me full and satisfied. The chicken cutlet was meaty and good but the prosciutto got lost in the massiveness of the sandwich.
My friends got the lobster roll cold w/​mayo and a clam chowda. The lobster rolls come with a really generous amount of lobster meat (I mean you’re still paying for it) but the sandwich is really cold when the bun isn’t toasted. I guess the scalding hot clam chowder balances out the cold though. The soup is really creamy and very flavorful.
If you’re in the North End and want a lobster roll then come to Pauli’s! They don’t disappoint w/​a solid lobster roll that will definitely satisfy that seafood craving. I will need to try the warm lobster roll next time I’m back here.

If you ever find yourself on that Neptune Oyster’s line and it’s not going, go one store down — happiness and incredible satisfaction are waiting for you in the form of Pauli’s. A few things make this place just absolutely a must-​go place if you’re looking for lobster rolls.
1. It serves lobster rolls warm (insert a million heart symbols!), whenever you have that opportunity — seize it and never let go. It’s delicious. JUST PURE DELICIOUSNESS.
2. You can get hot butter with your roll — I mean. HOW CAN YOU NOT. Say goodbye to your cholesterol… or hello depending on how you look at it haha it’s completely worth it though. I’m serious!
3. You get a bag of chips with your 7oz or 14oz order — or you can substitute for amazing fries. seriously. I LOVE THEIR FRIES I COULD HAVE IT ALL DAY.
The lobster rolls are straight up lobster in a bun. I thought James Hook was amazing (which it still is! You can’t really compare hot and cold rolls), but upon this discovery… I don’t know. This is a strong contender and I daresay may surpass James Hook… and maybe even Neptune (hot rolls, no wait I mean really!)!

I needed my lobster roll, especially in Boston! I’ve been to James Hook before, and Pauli’s is also great! I ordered the Lobsta Roll with hot butter ($ 17.99). So good! Plenty of lobster in the sandwich. Plus, you can enjoy with a side of chips. Nom nom.
There are seats available for dining inside the restaurant.

I’ve never had a lobster roll quite like this. For $ 29.99, you get 14 oz. of plump lobster meat inside of a soft and warm bun. It comes with a bag of chips of your choice. For an extra two bucks, you can have it with butter. This one was really hot in temperature. The mayo lobster roll had cold filling and a warm bun.
My friend and I were so very excited about trying out these lobster rolls that we didn’t realize maybe 14 oz. would be too much. Going with a 7 oz. sandwich or sharing a 14 oz. (since they serve it as two 7-​oz. sandwiches) would have been the way to go. We ate at 5:30pm and was still full the next day through mid-​morning.
If there’s a tiny complaint, it would be tenderness of the lobster. Some of the pieces were a bit tough so I imagine the lobsters might be pretty large.
The smell inside this store is heavenly. I wish we were in town longer so I could have tried out some of their other sandwiches.

Adresse repérée avant d’arriver à Boston, et on est finalement tombés dessus sans le chercher.
Superbe petite adresse avec plein de choix, peut être trop, parce qu’on se demande en arrivant si la qualité est au rdv avec tant de propositions. Mais oui, elle l’est ! Énormes salades et wraps chauds ou froids, sandwichs, petit-​déjeuners.
Lobster roll et lobster salade avec des vrais et gros morceaux de homard, un régal !
Staff super sympa et service rapide. Pour quelques dollars, c’est vraiment un super endroit pour manger un petit bout. S’il fait beau, prenez à emporter et dégustez sur la greenway en profitant des rayons, bonheur assuré !!
