Katie was recommended to me over two years ago now. I had been seeing an eh stylist in Newton (see previous reviews) where I live and was leaving the salon looking like I had done my hair myself… Typically I try and describe how I want my hair cut and then trust the one with the scissors to give me a decent hair cut. Well… when I walked in to see Katie in June 2014, I was rocking what I would describe as a fried mullet. The stylist who previously had been doing my hair elsewhere had cut my hair in a «V» which I never requested; and the layers grew out horribly. My previous stylist as well did not recommend any quality heat protectants, and the one she did sell me fried my hair even more so (I have an unhealthy relationship with my flat-iron…I’m working on it :)).
I was petrified that I was going to have to chop my long hair off and just start fresh… not the case. Katie looked at my hair, and did have to take some length off but it is the healthiest my hair had been in over a year.
I have been seeing Katie consistently now for just over a year and I cannot stop saying good things! My hair has grown out long and healthy. Katie is a little expensive (I’m a grad student) BUT worth it every time. I’m sorry I did not start seeing her sooner.

The couple times I have been to Roffi Salon have been amazing. This place is very client-​centered and focused on client satisfaction. I would recommend this salon to anyone. BUT — this review is particularly for J DESPRES. J was hired to do my wedding makeup and hair in September 2015. I cannot say enough about how good J was during this entire process. Each time I was with her, she made me feel like I was the only client she had (which I know was nowhere near the truth!). I went to Roffi for two trial-​runs with J, and both were incredible experiences. She listened to my desires, paid attention to my taste, and offered subtle suggestions that made ALL the difference. She is calm, patient, detail-​oriented, and a perfectionist when it comes to how her clients look. She is passionate about her work and it shows. She literally made my «dream wedding look» come true. I could not have done it without her. J — you are the MASTER! Roffi is so lucky to have you :)

For curls, come here. For color, come here. For cappuccino, come here. Basically everything I need to be happy except bacon.
It’s a cute little multi-​level salon with nice ambiance. You definitely feel pampered and well taken care of. There are nice black robes, an espresso machine, more brand new magazines than a Vogue factory and a great team of stylists and assistants. Prices are Newbury — can’t be too surprised. Full foil/​glaze/​cut/​blow dry was $ 180 last time (although it was $ 155 the previous time so their prices must have gone up) plus tip.
Dayna has been working magic on my hair since February, so around 6 months. She’s a complete whiz at cutting curly hair to complement the curl and leave the correct length. You know when your stylist holds out how much they’re going to cut off, and then they just chop off how much they want anyway? Not Dayna. If she says a half inch trim, she means it. My curls look great at any stage of the grow-​out phase.
Regarding color, I’ve always gotten a full foil and she is positively meticulous. To the point where I swear she’s put in foils around my face that only have 10 hairs in them. She’s taken it blonder towards the summer and now that summer is over, darker towards the fall. It’s so well suited and blended so naturally that I’ve gotten relentless compliments ever since I started going to her. The best part is that with the most recent way she applied my color, I don’t need to go back for 12 weeks.
When you’ve got challenging hair like mine, it’s imperative to find a stylist that «gets» you and can manage the mane. Dayna gets me!

After a big scheduling error by another salon, I was left, at the last minute, without a stylist that I felt comfortable styling my curly hair on my wedding day. Roffi Salon and J to the rescue! Everyone there was so wonderful and accommodating. J really spoke my language and it only took us two tries to get my hair exactly the way I wanted it. I had LOTS of compliments on my hair, and my bridesmaids and my mother looked stunning!

Transform Your Curly Hair!
Roffi Salon is one of the few salons in the greater Boston area to offer the Ouidad haircut, also known as Carve and Slice. This method makes it easier to style your hair and take maximum advantage of your curl. Recently I had my hair cut at Roffi by a stylist named Maria who is working towards certification in the Ouidad method, so I was able to get the cut done for $ 25. Maria did the cutting and was supervised by salon owner Michael Roffi, who is also a ceritfied Ouidad instructor. My hair had not been cut for five months and I went much shorter (off my neck) and my curls and bounce have returned. I am currently looking for a job and feeling down because of that, and this cut made me feel so much better about myself. If your curly hair is overwhelming you, call Roffi and ask to be a model for Maria. She’s a nice person and does a wonderful job. Because it’s a training cut, it takes a little longer but is definitely worth the time investment.

Got a hair cut and ombré from Dayna. She did a great job. She was very friendly and understood exactly what look I wanted. I love my hair color. Would definitely go back.

This salon is so nice! I got the gilt deal (wash, cut, blow dry, scalp treatment, and glaze). Everyone was so nice! I had Maria as my stylist and she was awesome! She did a great job and was very nice. I totally recommend this place.

J. is amazing! I was in and out in an hour and I love my new do! Everyone is so welcoming and friendly – I’ve found my new salon. The music was fun and it’s super clean. You’re immediately offered a tea or cappuccino and given a mice robe to change into. Fyi, They do not have the capability to do tips on cards, so come with cash or write a check for the tip. It’s in a great location with easy access to public transit, great shopping and restaurants. I can’t wait to go back to try the microderm later too. I highly recommend this place! Love it! :)

First of all — if I could give my stylist 10 stars then I definitely would. I dropped a star because the salon looks dated. It’s not as chic and modern as some of the other salons on Newbury.
My experience at the salon was great. The front desk personnel wasn’t crazy welcoming when I got there but once they handed everything over to Maria I really enjoyed the experience. I got a scalp treatment, glaze, cut and blowout with a Gilt City deal. The entire experience was so relaxing and the scalp treatment smelled insanely good (citrus and lavender).
Maria was so, so sweet. Very kind, very focused, and totally understood what I wanted — which was super simple and I appreciate her not trying to change anything up on me. (Some other stylists at Newbury St salons are all about pushing you to try something new — NO WAY.) She asked how I treat my hair and told me to stay away from heat as often as I could. No lecture, just honesty.
I’ve been hopping around salons for awhile now but would definitely consider coming back to Roffi. This was such a great way to wrap up a long work week on a Friday evening!

I love J! I have been coming here for years now and started with J when she was still pretty new to the salon. She just keeps getting better and better! I recently eloped and needed to get my hair touched up and trimmed, J was able to fit me in and did a beautiful beautiful job. I have been doing ombré for a while but this time she did balayage– it look awesome! She is truly an artist, has a wonderful warm, friendly, and funny attitude– I look forward to seeing her every time I come and my hair always looks amazing. Thank you Roffi and J!

I went on a living social $ 80 coupon to receive full highlights, shine glaze, and cut&blow dry with Dayna. BEST HIGHLIGHTS IN BOSTON!!! She went down to business, super detail oriented, and left me with the most natural looking, non brassy and long lasting highlights, closest to the root of my hair that I’ve ever seen! Other stylists tend to leave some of my dark root there, I guess to make me come back sooner: P but she made sure that I could go as long as possible without touchups. My cut was also layered amazingly, and the blow dry was smooth and bouncy. I would definitely come back again, she asked all kinds of questions to get my look just right. $ 160 for all of those services together (the full value posted on Living Social) doesn’t seem too shabby to get my money’s worth. You won’t regret it!

I recently purchased a living social deal for a cut, ombré, and blow dry and so glad I did. I was greeted by Joy, the receptionist. What a sweetheart! She immediately introduced me to Dayna, my stylist. Overall, she did a wonderful job. She cut off exactly what I wanted. No more. No less. As for the color, I wanted a medium to light brown ombré and she did just that! My hair is thicker than most and it often takes other stylists about three hours. I was in and out in 2 hours. Not complaining ESP when I didn’t have to compromise on quality. Highly recommend Dayna! The salon prices are so reasonable! Will be back!

Amazing! I got my hair cut and colored last week and literally have been told by a countless number of random people how good my hair looks. Someone even stopped me on the street to complement me on it and this is no easy feat as I have a ton of really thick, curly hair.
This is my second time at Roffi using Gilt City and I have to say I’m pretty hooked. I already booked my next appointment (even without a gilt city voucher… crazy)! Dayna was my hair stylist and she was so great. My color is even better than what I had hoped for. It is so rich and warm and adds so much dimension to my hair.
Okay so you get it, I’m really happy with my hair, but on top of that, the customer service was great. I couldn’t ask for anything better in terms of booking, reception and helpfulness but also originally the color around my scalp was a bit too light and Dayna tried two different techniques to ensure the area was darkened, but not totally stripped of color. And after she had stayed an hour and a half past closing to ensure it was okay, she gave me a free blow dry since I didn’t have time to stay then. When I came back that weekend for the blowdry, she fixed the area a bit more (I was already happy but she was like this will make it perfect! which she was right about) and then blew it out.
Couldn’t be more satisfied!

Michael isa curly hair genius! Please trust me and pay the extra for a Ouidad cut. It lasts wayyyyy longer than a normal trim or cut and will leave your untamed curls transformed into amazingness!!! Ouidad is the ONLY curly haircut that any curly girl should have!

Service: my hairdresser was very nice. She took me on time and offered me coffee and water. She was friendly and seemed to be listening to what I wanted. I will say that the front desk staff was very rude and stuck up. I checked in and the entire time I was doing it the girls back was to me. She gestured to things but didn’t move to help me out. Overall extremely rude.
Color: I wasn’t sure if I wanted an ombré but the hairdresser convinced me to go with it. I told her specifically that I wanted it to be I’m blocks of color and to blend them. I wanted to go a bit darker as well. I am giving this place one star because the hair that came out 3.5 hours later was literally the exact opposite. I now have highlights which are almost grey, and my hair us extremely dark. I specifically said I didn’t want highlights. Might be one if the worst ombres I have had yet. The hairdresser must have just been agreeing with me because my hair literally is the exact opposite of what I wanted.
I will say the cut and blow dry were great, but nothing could make up fir that color.

I got a Guit City voucher for this salon for a cut, blow-​dry, full foil or ombré and glaze; the hairdresser that I had was Dayna. Although everyone was nice,
I was very unsatisfied with the service that I received.
Let me start from the beginning. I called the salon to schedule my appointment, they gave me an appointment a month away (which I was fine with). My appointment was for 5:00 pm, I arrived about 15 min earlier, since I had never been to this salon before and wanted to be on time (yes, I am one of those people that likes punctuality). I was greeted at the from desk by a really nice girl who checked me in and told me to take a seat — she did also offer to get me tea/​water. I sat there waiting for my stylist… about 45 minutes! So at this point it’s 5:30 pm and no one has come by to let me know if the stylist was running late or whatnot. Yet I see so many people being called in every few minutes. After waiting for 45 min my hairdresser decides to make an appearance and apologizes for being late (fine, I just wish someone would let me know this beforehand) whats the point of making an appointment? Anyway, she asked me what I wanted and I told her that I wanted to do an ombré style and I wanted the ends to be really blonde. About an hour later she washes my hair and starts to dry it, I notice that there’s practically no blonde in my hair, and what is is very few and far between. There practically was no difference between my hair color from when I walked in and when I left.
The next day I get a call from the salon asking for my voucher number since the hairdresser didn’t ask me for it… It goes to show how much attention the hairdresser was paying. Anyway, I won’t be back here and now how to go to another salon to get my hair done.

I purchased a Gilt City deal that was for a haircut, full foil color/​Ombré & blow-​out. Roffi Salon is located upstairs, in between retail stores. The location is very clean and classic with white/​black furniture and seats.
I came in with brown/​red dyed hair growing out and showing my black roots. I wanted an ombré highlight with really blonde highlights.
Dayna was my hair stylist, and she did such a great job! She offered me cappuccino or tea after I first had my hair washed. She put a glaze on the top portion of my hair to have a cohesive black color to start the ombré. She then did ombré highlights with foil and only set in the dye for about 20 – 30 minutes. She cut my hair after, and layered the cut to frame my face. She really didn’t cut more than I asked her to, which I really appreciated.
Overall, she made my hair look very natural. Even though I wanted my hair a lot lighter, she made a good call to make the color blend in better with my natural dark-​brown/​black hair.

I recently got an amazing haircut from Dayna. I just needed a trim to get my hair looking healthy again. Dayna did a great job. She didn’t take too much off the length but was able to refresh my locks and shape. She was also super down to earth and easy to chat with. I would definitely go back if I weren’t moving away from Boston. Additionally, her price is totally reasonable. I think I got some sort of discount for being a first time customer (only $ 30 for a cut and style!). And the coworker that referred me gets 25% off her next cut.

This salon is amazing! Right when I walked in I was greeted by a friendly man who offered me a cappuccino and amazing homemade Italian cookies that the owner made. The atmosphere was fun and the décor was artsy and modern.
Ask for Dayna! She is an amazing hair stylist. She was great to talk to and also did a full foil for me. I can honestly say it was the best color I have ever had. Plus she is just really sweet all around, she even helped me with my scalp which is super sensitive and gave me free samples of the shampoo and conditioner she recommends.
I will definitely go back to see Dayna!

Curly-​headed people of Boston: I’ve finally found a place that knows what to do with curls. I have been searching forever for a salon that was able to tame my unruly locks without making my hair look like some sort of fro, or without giving me dreadlocks. I tend to wear my hair up, because I hate how it looks down, but also because I’ve had bad haircuts forever, and it always ends up looking worse than it has before.
I decided to invest in a Ouidad cut at Michael Roffi because it was reasonably priced (compared to the cuts in NYC) and because I had previously been disappointed by a curly haircut locally. You can read my previous reviews if you want to see where.
The staff at the salon here was incredibly warm and welcoming and everyone tried to really make me feel like I was in a «home» sort of environment. Catherine did an unbelievable job on my hair and a day later, without having washed it yet, it still looks as great as it did yesterday. I have never had a curly style last that long before. I can’t say enough wonderful things about my experience at this salon and my satisfaction with the style. She debulked my hair and made it look great. I could not be any more pleased.
