Silky Hair Salon

I came here after hearing about it from a friend. I was quickly seated and I showed the barber a picture on my phone of a style that I wanted. He understood and got to work right away. After 10 – 15 minutes I was satisfied with the result. For $ 10 (+$ 2 or 3 tip) this is really hard to beat. If you want a fancy, Asian pop-​star cut, I am not sure if it’s their specialty. But for a standard haircut this deserves a try. Also please note that they seem to only speak Mandarin or Cantonese — you don’t want anything lost in translation!

I love this place because it’s so crazy cheap not because I get the full benefits of a great hair salon.
I look more Chinese than Vietnamese so the people there are very accepting and assuming. I walk in, sit down, and he immediately starts cutting my hair. He didn’t bother to ask for what or why. This bothered me slightly, but if you’re like me, just want your haircut for cheap — this is the place. I find that simple hand gestures of «trim» or basic hairstyles work.
For $ 20 at most (shampoo, long hair style, and tip included!), I find it hard to choke up the money to go anywhere else in Boston. I wouldn’t get the shampoo though. They’re kind of rough and scared me a bit, lol. You’re ushered in this shady area, the chair looks more like a therapist’s chair. and yeah, I thought they were going to kill me.

I usually come to this place for a haircut. It’s near the Hei La Moon restaurant and the C-​Mart Chinese supermarket, and within walking distance to South Station.
For $ 10 (not including tip) you can get a simple haircut. Just indicate that you do not want your hair to be washed or else you will be paying more. As for the people who work here, I don’t think they speak English well so I had to speak to them in either Cantonese Chinese or Mandarin Chinese (one of the female stylists who work there only speaks Mandarin Chinese, the rest should be able to speak both). I think you also have to pay in cash to make things easier. I probably would be coming to this place often, if I want a haircut since it is one of the most inexpensive places and one of the stylists that usually does my hair is very friendly.
