I was not a fan of Stil. Two stars because they had a very cute ring one time and I normally hate to buy jewelry as I prefer to make it myself. Of course, the ring was featured in Boston magazine and so they sold out. The salespeople are also terrible. Not even a hello when I walk in the door. Like they are so busy with their self-loathing that they can’t be interrupted to do their job. The clothing in this store looks like it comes from Mugatu’s Derelicte collection. I don’t get the appeal. Oh great I’ll pick up this sherpa-inspired coonskin-lined skirt to go with this mesh and sequin t-shirt– what an outfit. I’ll wear it to my Dumpster Diving Party. I don’t know how anyone can pull this ugly crap off. And I don’t mean people who wear it, I mean people who design it and then evade the stocks and pillory for such an offensive crime. I’d visit for the jewelry and the jewelry alone. P. S.- The Chestnut Hill Stil is much friendlier and with better clothes.

There are some clothing stores with very rather high prices that are worth splurging in(Reiss, Intermix come to mind). Stil is not one of them. Most of the clothe they sell look like embelished sac/hippie dresses. They do have 50% off sales all the time… so the $ 500 rag dresses become $ 250.

I seriously hate STIL on Newbury. It’s below street level and the women who work there sit like pregnant elephants behind that barricade they call the register. If I’m willing to drop some dough, I want you to at least ask if I need a fitting room. The location in Chesnut Hill is infinitely better and the girls who work there are so helpful, fun, and chill; it’s just depressing to walk into this location and wonder how both stores can carry the same name.

Stil has clothes like no other place in Boston. The prices are high, sure. The vibe is effortless chic — shopping here makes you feel like yes, you CAN pull off that deconstructed burlap dress from an obscure(to Americans) Scandinavian designer. While being fashionable and unique is nice and all, what keeps me shopping there is the staff. I browse at their Chestnut Hill store a lot and have only purchased one item there. Still(ha!), when I went to the Newbury Street store one of the salesgirls came out from behind the counter and was all«I know you! You shop at Chestnut Hill! How’s your son?» Like I said, I’m no big spender, but the girl remembered me and was super friendly. But what she said next is the kicker, «we just got a dress that you will love.» I thought that this was just a cheap ploy to boost my ego and empty my wallet, but then she brought the most beautiful dress to me — it was perfect. And handmade!

There is no doubt about it, they have BEAUTIFULBEAUTIFUL clothing. The blend of rich colors, silks, sequins, lush fabrics, unique twists and ties are fantastic and a rarity. The semi precious jewelry is magnificent. Perfect place to splurge on an outfit for a special occasion or event you want to stand out and look completely unique. However it must be said that each article of clothing is like a piece of art and in no way practical. Everything is pricey, made in Scandinavia and top of the line. Definitely worth checking out, it’s like visiting a fashion museum in a tiny chic Newbury St. boutique.

Stil is a wonderful place to find unique, beautifully made clothing from Scandanavia. While the items are by no means cheap, this is one of my favorite places in Boston to go for a big splurge. From bags and shoes to amazing dresses Stil is the place to go is you are looking for something cool and ecletic. Unfortunately the prices are a little steep, but keep your eyes peeled for the occasional Stil sales. they are well worth a visit!
