Blessing is such a sweetheart! She’s so professional and patient. I feel so confident after I got my extensions done! Loooooove studio 27!

My experience at studio 27 was wonderful! Blessing and her staff are extremely professional and timely. I saw Blessing for a full weave and I received excellent care and treatment. I’ve honestly never been to a more friendly and professional salon. Not only did I start and finish at the expected time, but my hair felt healthy and I received great informative advice on how to better care for my hair on a regular basis. I would highly recommend going to this salon for weaves/​hair extensions!

I’ve been going to Blessing for about a year and a half now. How do I love Studio 27? Let me count the ways:
1. She is great with my natural hair. I usually get a wash and blow dry, sometimes cornrows, sometimes a press, sometimes a treatment. Blessing is always great and gentle with my hair. In addition, whenever I get a press, my hair always bounces back to its original curl pattern. It has also grown so much over the past year and a half.
2. The salon is NICE. I have had several dramatic experiences with salons — I had one salon tell me, no, they couldn’t do a wash and blow dry if my hair wasn’t permed, true story — and I would usually end up in awful places in sketchy neighborhoods. Blessing’s salon is a breath of fresh air, nicely decorated, pretty, and incredibly relaxing.
3. She is always prompt, and I’ve never had to wait around waiting to get my hair shampooed, or waiting between a shampoo and style. I really respect the fact that she does not double-​book because it would be so easy for her to do this.
4. Finally, Blessing is amazing. She is a great person inside and out, and she takes a genuine interest in her clients as people.
I tried to hide the «Blessing» so I could keep her all to myself, but then she got featured for Best Weave in Boston — so the secret is out. I already can’t get same or next day appointments anymore, and with more Unilocal reviews so I likely won’t be able to get same week appointments either. But that’s okay — she deserves it, and I’m just going to have to be more organized in the New Year and plan longer ahead.

This studio is nice and clean. The stylist Blessing who’s also the owner is a sweetheart. My only issue was that as a natural haired woman I take a lot of precautions to avoid heat damage. Have not had heat damage until I came to do my hair at this place. I’ve only been there twice. The first time I did notice the hair was unbelievable silky looking but assumed she must use some great products but after the second time when I washed my hair out my hair stayed straight and limp! I was so upset! Blessing still uses a hot comb to straighten the hair and maybe that is why this happened. A lot of stylist use just a flat iron so they can control the temperature better. I have to say I’ll never go back. I now have to cut my hair again to rid it of the straight parts.
If you are natural haired and want for your curls to revert back before you apply heat please do not allow blessing to apply a hot comb to your hair. You’ll be regretting it!

Looooooove Studio 27. My entire life I’ve had major hair struggles as a mixed girl with an Asian mom & black dad. Usually it’s mom who teaches us how to do our hair, but what do you do when your mom’s hair naturally grows out of her head looking like $ 300 a pack and all she knows is wash-​and-​go? You may grow up like me… lost when it comes to all things black/​mixed hair care.
I got to a point where I had damaged my hair beyond repair and decided to do a big chop (at home). After some growth, I finally felt ready to see a stylist about protective hair styles. Thank you Unilocal for leading me into Blessing’s expert hands! I booked my appointment online with ease and when the big day came I timidly walked into her salon. I was terrified about revealing the disaster I had growing out of my head. Blessing was so compassionate, friendly, and professional. Her gentle nature made me forget my embarrassment altogether. I’ve been for two visits (sew-​in extensions) now and each time I have left feeling fabulous and also more knowledgable about how to care for my hair.
On my 2^nd round of extensions my experience at Studio 27 was just as great, if not even better. I never knew the joy of a tea tree oil shampoo after months of wearing a weave (anyone else hear angels singing?)
I have a long way to go on my hair journey, but thanks to Blessing my confidence is growing just as much as my hair is!

Positive Unilocal reviews led me to Blessing, and I couldn’t be more grateful. I ventured to the salon with no expectations and left with greater knowledge of proper weave maintenance and high expectations for the quality of my installations. Whether I visit the salon for a simple weave wash or new installation, I always leave looking great and the results last.
On a side note, Blessing is an awesome person who cares about her craft and customer satisfaction. I found out overnight that I’d be leaving for NYC and Blessing was able to accommodate my last minute request for a new installation.
Blessing’s friendship and quality service will keep me as a customer for installations, despite the commute to Boston.

I really enjoyed having my hair cared for at this salon. Great service, a stylist that listens and understand your hair goals, a clean studio. What else does a girl need? I would highly recommend Blessing to anyone interested in finally having someone listen to your needs.

I’ve now been to blessing 3 times. She is absolutely amazing. The atmosphere of the salon is great and professional. So clean and relaxing. There is no such thing as waiting for hours and being in the salon for the whole day. She is very respectful of your time and her prices are reasonable

I always went for a cheapo place here in Boston, but decided to have decent haircut this time. Studio 27 was the place I wanted to check out, partly because of the good reviews. Short to say, I was not disappointed. It’s been two or three weeks since the haircut and I still like it, it grew a bit but stays in shape. Overall a really good haircut. Plus, the price is also nice!
I will definitely be back when my hair gets too long!

While Blessing is nice, I just cannot justify paying $ 50 for a press and curl, $ 30 for a trim (ridiculous!!) and $ 20 for a treatment. $ 100 for a basic service (in that location) for a basement level salon is absurd. I can only imagine how much a color or weave would cost.
There are salons on Newbury street that don’t even charge that much for that particular service. So I feel like the pricing is a rip off, considering the fact that the salon is not in a posh area.
Please note, I wasn’t expecting to pay $ 30 or something cheap. However, the $ 100 charge took me by surprise.
Also, if you do go to studio 27, I would only recommend Blessing to do your hair. Another lady started doing my hair, I had to stop her because she wasn’t careful and my hair started breaking. I am natural and its very obvious that you detangle starting from the tip to the root of the hair. But she was just raking the comb through my hair and that’s a no no.
My search continues for that perfect salon… great service and reasonable price list.

I go to Blessing for my relaxers. She does a great job and it is such a relief to have someone nearby that I can go to for a chemical process, and never worry about hair or scalp damage. I also go to her for deep conditioners with her steam machine. My hair is APL and getting longer, for those who care.
All the other reviews about her time and attention are spot-​on. She does not overbook clients and she caters to each individual client as if she has all the time in the world.

Blessing is a blessing! I met with Blessing yesterday and she was a breath of fresh air. She was so warm and professional. I loved the set-​up of the salon; it is very professional and inviting. Blessing did an AMAZING job with my hair and most important she listened to my needs as a client. My hair came out looking healthy, shiny, and fabulous and I could not be more pleased. I definitely will be going back.

Finally … I found a place which does the right job for a man’s haircut. I used to get my hair cut at a place convenient and the closest to home. The cut would be quick, the stylist not any special nice …
Going a few minutes out of my way brought me the best experience. The stylist at Studio27, Blessing, was adorable, nice and paid a lot of attention to what I had before and what I needed now, to make my hair look the best. She took the time, got every detail right, shampooed, and everything. And I cost barely more than any Supercuts: $ 25 :)

I should start by saying I am not the best person to have as a customer. I am demanding, picky, and even though I know nothing about hairdressing I am a pro. I had the same hairdresser for 10 years and she moved away and after a period of 10months of going to hairdressers and getting pissed it was a BLESSING I found Studio 27.
First I should say– I was seen ontime– a bigge for me.
Rhona washed my hair and it was so clean you could hear it squeaking.
Blessing did a weave for me (since 5 hairdressers later I have no hair). She had to grab some short areas that were growing back. She took her time and listened to how I liked my hair. Even though I was getting fussy at the end since this is when my hair typically get ruined she was patient and non once irritated.
My hair looks SO good I walked out of there– did I say walk? I floated!
I finally found a new hairdresser and I don’t care if I have to drive the almost 1hr from my town!
My friend came to visit me while I was there and just by watching and interacting is going to now bring her daughter.

Ive cried before with other people, and chose to do my own hair, not until I met Blessing and her wonderful partner.
She was so gentle and my weave braids was tight without hurting, the girl is super fast and talented, I look so flawless. I will add pictures as well.
SHE AND HER GIRLS ARE VERY TALENTED, as I was seating there, I was watching on of her girls doing someone’s hair and She did a great job.

My hair is natural so that can be a little nerve racking. Shelita did my hair and she did a fabulous job !!! This salon is great very professional and I felt very comfortable. She is also knowledgeable in the natural hair care.
She was very gentle with my hair she does the job with great care! I made sure to schedule my next appointment! ! :)

Warning: This is a long review!
I really wanted to like this place because I had a really nice rapport with the owner Blessing when I went in for my consultation but unfortunately, I did not have a good experience when I had my hair done a week later. This review is not on the owner’s personality she is lovely and really wanted to do a good job and tried to please me, however she does not have the skills to deal with someone who stretches their relaxers past the recommended 8 weeks period.
I stretch my relaxers for 4 months at a time because this gives me 2 inches of new growth which minimizes the chances of the relaxer overlapping on previously relaxed hair. I also like the strength and length I have been able to retain by not relaxing my hair too often. There were some things that Blessing did a great job with, I will start with those:
1. Applied the relaxer only to the new growth and started from the nape which is the coarsest part of my head.
2. Did not repeatedly comb through the relaxer which is a no no if you aren’t going for bone straight.
3. Use a wide tooth comb to get through the extra thick sections without «warming» the relaxer up which can cause damage.
4. Sectioned hair and sat me under the dryer until hair was 70% dry before blow-​drying which is really good. Blowdrying soaking wet hair causes damage.
Here are the things I was unhappy about:
1. Did not use enough relaxer for the amount and thickness of my hair.
2. Did not use the back of the rat tail comb or hands to smooth the relaxer into my hair which would have helped it take better.
3. She jokingly asked if I would be willing to detangle my own hair. When I saw her reach for a cheap plastic brush with those little round plastic knobs on top, I actually started detangling my own hair but she did not stop me or insist on doing it even though I was paying $ 165 for the service.
4. It was very awkward and uncomfortable for me to detangle my own hair while she was blow drying it at the same time. At one point, I asked her to please pick up the section and hold in still while gently combing from the ends up. I could feel her combing and brushing my hair flat against my back, which is not proper technique.
5. I was given a protein treatment after the relaxer but my hair wasn’t deep conditioned when it was rinsed out. When I asked her why, she said because it wasn’t a hard protein treatment. That deep conditioning is only done after a hard protein treatment. Sounded good to me but when it was time to blow dry, my hair was VERY hard and stiff. It didn’t feel soft like I am used to it feeling after being conditioned. Either the protein treatment wasn’t all the way rinsed out or it was just dry and in need of deep conditioning. What ever the reason, I didn’t feel Paul Mitchell products were good for my hair. I take my daughter to SuperCuts and that’s the brand they use, I prefer Kera Care or some other line specifically for black hair.
6.The right side of my head and a section of the back was completely under processed. When I pointed this out, she said it was because I didn’t want her to comb the area. I did not want her to comb my fragile edges because they tend to break, but the area I was talking about was the side and back of my head and besides, she was already done with those area when I asked her to stop combing back my edges. I think she may have gotten tired by the time she reached the other side of my head.
I need to mention that Blessing offered to have me come back in 3 weeks to do a corrective relaxer on the side and back of my head that didn’t take but I will pass. I just don’t think she has the experience to do my hair properly. If you are getting regular 8 – 10 week touch-​ups and a simple blow-​dry or roller set, this place is fine, but if you are texlaxing virgin hair or if you like to stretch your relaxers, I don’t think this is a good place to have it done. I was charged $ 95 for the texlax, 30 for a trim (wow) and $ 20 for the protein treatment and I left $ 20 tip. $ 165 and I was so disappointed. Newbury St. prices without the Newbury Street results.
I called a friend afterwards and she recommended I try Arthur Harris Salon on Newbury St. I met with Arthur a couple days later and amazingly, he was able to tell me so much about my hair. He spent and hour touching, looking at and talking to me about my hair which I realize did not happen at Salon 27. She didn’t even touch my hair when I went in for the consult. I came to Studio 27 because I had heard rave reviews about Monica Landrum. As a woman sporting unprocessed hair, I was excited to work with someone whose talent spans to both relaxed and natural hair. Monica’s reputation is accurate: she is truly gifted with coloring and strives for healthy hair in the long term (I.e., she won’t burn your hair as she’s styling it).
I had the pleasure of having Monica color, style, and trim my hair several times throughout this Spring and summer. Each time I got many compliments from my friends.
I hired her to be my stylist for my wedding: it was a great decision! She traveled to Vermont to style my sister, mother, and me. She is a true professional: arriving early (8 am), ensuring a relaxed and calming atmosphere in the bridal suite, and adapting to last minute changes (my mother decided to not do her hair as had been styled in the in the trial and asked for a brand new style!), and styling me perfectly. I got so many compliments on my hair style!
In closing, I highly recommend Monica. She is a true master of her craft. You can trust that Monica will do right by you: she listens to your dreams about your hair, offers honest advice on how or if it can be accomplished and then she executes it with a smile. It was a pleasure working with her and am looking forward to continuing to get styled by her.

I’ve been going to Blessing for 13 years to get a shampoo and blowout since long before she opened this location. She has a talent for making your hair look silky and shiny, as it looks commercials, and I frequently get stopped by people asking for contact information for the stylist. The salon itself is meticulously clean and the interior design resembles a spa, so it feels very pleasant to be there. There’s no one in the Boston area who is more conscientious and detail-​oriented about styling hair or keeping a beautiful place than she is. Highly recommend!

If you value your time and appreciate when others do too then Studio 27 is the salon for you. Blessing has been my hair stylist for a number of years and no one can compare to her quality & work ethic. Whatever you want done, she can handle! Weave: check. Press & Curl: check. Color: check. Do you need an early appt before work? She can take you! You get out of work after 6p? She can see you!
But that’s not all!
This is not the double booking, eating lunch while you are waiting, keep you in the salon for 4−6hrs when you have things to do type of establishment! I grew up getting my hair done in those & then tried the Dominican salon since I heard they were «faster», but they handled my hair like it needed wrangling!
Blessing & Studio 27 is an awesome combination of a stylist who knows hair of all textures & values your time! They will be ready for you soon after you arrive & you will be out before you can get a table at TORO (notorious for their 2hr wait times)!
Oh wait! I almost forgot… The prices are reasonable, if not cheaper than those you find at any comparable salon!
Ok, I admit it… I’m smitten! Once you visit her, your life will be changed! Trust me! Or not! But what will one try hurt in the grand scheme of things! #TeamBlessing
