The Copley Group

Lived in a Fenway apartment for 2 years. Avoiding yet another realtor fee and the hassle of moving was motivation to stay. Basement level apartment. Decent light, maintenance was always prompt. Free street parking right outside our apartment. Rent was steep, but you pay for the location. Downsides include: thin walls, roaches during the summer (despite the building ‘exterminator’ looking into the issue), NOISY PIPES during the winter. Being Boston, it could be a lot worse. Location is great, but don’t expect much.

I don’t know why the Copley Group doesn’t have more positive reviews. We’ve lived in Copley Group units for 4 years and we’ve transferred buildings twice within the neighborhood (upgrading.)
Let’s set a baseline — management companies in Boston are pretty much all absolutely terrible. Literally almost all of them, for anything less than $ 2,500/month. I’m left wondering if the other reviewers are new to the city and don’t know what the norm is here.
The Copley Group is always pleasant, responsive, and responsible. Not only better than the norm — they are what I’d hope for in a management company. When I moved in, it was immaculate. Any time I’ve submitted a maintenance request it has been taken care of quickly and correctly. The maintenance staff are professionals, and *nice people* who I like dealing with. Every issue or request is followed up on promptly via email.
During the winter of ²⁰¹⁴⁄₂₀₁₅ (aka worst winter ever) there was an ice dam on our building that one day decided to flood the unit we were living in. We were leaving to travel overseas the day it happened. They tool care of everything and kept us up to date the entire time — moved all of our furniture, replaced the carpet, dried everything out, and had it back to its original state by the time we got home a few days later.
Most of the reviews you read aren’t the norm — they are one disgruntled tenant with some kind of axe to grind. I’ve lived with them long enough to confidently say that they are the best option in the price range in the area.

I totally agree with the previous comments that the leasing staff especially Karen Cipriani is rude, inconsiderate and condescending. She talks as if she is our boss and we should just do what she dictates because we rent a place from the Copley Group.

First let me just preface by thanking the maintenance staff who are nice and responsive. But the management part of the company was absolutely abhorrent, especially Karen, who is one of the least courteous and most unprofessional people I had to deal with regarding rental apartments.
The apartment: it is way too small for how much we pay, but figure it’s the Fenway area and there’s not many better alternatives. Our shower water alternates between very hot and very cold every other minute. The lobby always has a mildewy smell, and one of the washing machines in the basement is perpetually broken (it dances on the floor). We were promised a laundry-​card refill machine in our building that never materialized, so we always had to walk four blocks away to add money to wash our clothes after long work days. Mice in the apartment: after two sightings, we never caught any despite spending $ 30 of our own money buying and setting up traps, the maintenance came and put out more sticky traps and shoved steel wool into the crevices, but we still found rodent poop after coming back from a week-​long vacation.
Finally, the neighborhood: another reviewer said something about the rats and yes the streets are overrun by those disgusting creatures. We paid for monthly parking but spaces are hard to find near our apartment especially when Copley rented out half the spaces to Zipcar. Most lots are full of potholes and the walk to the streets usually meant encountering the aforementioned rats. During this historical snowy winter, Copley never plowed the lots or removed the snow in a timely manner, not even the alleyways leading into the lots. I’m pretty sure the mountain of snow that people made while digging out their cars in the Jersey street lot is still sitting there.

Horrible. Complete disregard for the law and tenant’s rights.

I’ve had some good and bad experiences with Copley Group while living in one of their apartments in Fenway.
Here’s the good:
— Copley Maintenance staff — these guys are awesome and get things done within a day!
— location — you can’t beat living in Fenway and being minutes away from Back Bay
— heat — during the winter months, Copley makes sure to start and the heat on. I feel especially fortunate when my friends tell me stories about their landlords not turning on heat in the middle of winter.
— Outdoor landscaping and indoor hallways — Copley’s really good about maintaining the outdoor landscaping and they recently renovated all of their indoor hallways
And the bad:
— Parking — it’s very expensive and it’s first come first serve, even though you pay $ 185 per month. The staff is pretty strict about their parking rules. Unless you have a MA registered vehicle so you can get street parking, this is going to be a pain in the rear

— Prices — prices have continued to go up by 2−3% per year since I started living here five years ago. they’re competitive with the other apartments in the area, but still sucks that they keep increasing the price on existing residents
— issues on invoices — they have messed up my monthly invoices a few times, but have immediately fixed it once I call them.
As with everything, there have been some challenges in the past, but overall, it’s been a pretty good experience in Copley Group Fenway.

If I could give no stars I would! I am extremely disappointed in my experience with the Copley Group. The staff is rude, unprofessional, and inconsiderate (especially Karen Cipriani). Overall, just another management company with total disregard for its tenants, looking to collect rent and give nothing in return.

While the apartments are large and spacious, quite a few of the the Copley Group staff are extremely rude and unprofessional people, particularly Karen Cipriani. They withhold information that they are required to give by law and refuse applicants without any reason and when they are refused they do not explain why, which is required by law. I got the feeling that they believe the are above the law because they own and rent so many apartments.
I do not recommend this rental agency and I will be filing a formal complain against them as a group as well as certain staff members like Karen. Beware.

Wonderful staff, beautiful apartments, can’t beat the location!
