I like this place a lot! Bought 4 pairs of shoes and was even given discount by the manager for buying multiple pairs. Thank you!

RIP OFFS!!! I purchased a pair of size 8 shoes they sent a size 9.5 when I asked for a refund since they sent wrong size they said NOPE WE DONT REFUND SHIPPING!!! Ummm even when they screw up? WTH? Then to ship back to them I had to spend 25.00 just to track order… so let me see I just spent 36.00 for a shoe I will never own??? GOING TO THE BBB!!! WARNING THEY ARE SCAMMERS!

I was recently able to find a pair of dead stock shoes here in their sale section online, and imagine how happy I was. I ordered them online, and I received confirmation of the item being shipped less than a day after my order. The product came packed nicely and arrived in a reasonable amount of time.
One thing that I thought they could improve on is to have the option to mail «gifts» with a gift receipt. While there is the option to write a gift message on the order form online, the actual message on paper was printed right below the receipt, fully displaying the price of the item. Good thing I was able to open the package and black out the price before giving it to my friend. How awkward would it be otherwise!

I am constantly drawn into the store by the sight of the vast array of shoes that they have in their windows, but I continue to walk out disappointed.
Although I’ve made some purchases here in the past, I’ve recently continued to run into the same problem, multiple times.
My shoe size is a 6, and size 6 shoes are used in displays. This results in the shoes, especially the leather ones, fading in the sunlight from being out. Both when trying to buy a pair of Jack Rogers and Clarks I noticed this issue, and when I was informed that they only carry one size of most shoe, I asked to talk with the manager to negotiate about price of the faded shoes.
Both times the manager has refused to come out, and instead I am feebly told by a sales associate that they will not negotiate, insisting that I purchase the shoes that are now defected for the whole price.
My advice for anyone who is a sample size. pay attention to the quality of the sample shoe they are trying to sell you, they are clearly not interested in pleasing their customers, informing them about the tanning of shoes issue, rather they just want to make the sale.
I am very disappointed!

The shoes are cute. The service is good. Even if I don’t find what I’m looking for, or if they don’t have my size (Cute 11 is hard to find!), I always feel good when I leave this store. The prices are reasonable too. Very unlike your typical Newbury St. /​Boston shopping experience — In a good way!

I like this place, because unlike most stores down Newbury, this place has shoes I actually want to buy! The storeroom is kept pretty clean, and then workers are always readjusting the shoes that were pulled off the displays and looked at. When there’s only two workers on a weekend the service is kind of slow, so you’ll have to wait along with everyone else to get your shoes. The place where you pay looks kind of grungy, but as long as I can walk away with a nice pair of flats, heels, or moccs, then I’m happy (and I am happy!)
This place also has Steve Maddens that are more up to date than the SM store down the street.

I live in NY, but have been in this store many times when visiting friends in Boston. I have never been impressed. The selection is all cheap, mall brand shoes sold at prices higher than you would find in an actual mall (think: Steve Madden, etc). Now, everyone loves an imitation Weitzman done well by Madden, but, no one loves HORRENDOUS customer service, and that’s what you get here, on top of a crowded store.
To elaborate (and you can check my other, albeit few, Unilocal reviews, which are nothing like this), I went to Thom Brown with my friend who had bought a pair of sandals there a month ago. She wore them on Saturday to brunch and the bottoms of both sandals split in half. This is obviously not the stores problem (though, maybe consider not carrying cheaply made shoes? Did you notice you’re on Newbury Street?), but they were only a month old and she wanted to exchange them for a new pair. Unfortunately, she had lost her receipt — but, this should not be a problem. It is incredibly clear that they are damaged, the store should have records of its inventory, which would allow them to see they carried these shoes recently. All of that aside, they should put the customer first and listen to her concerns and help her out. Wouldn’t you want to keep good customers coming back?
Apparently, Thom Brown only wants to tick off good customers with money to spend.
Before she could even finish telling the young, cocky, douche bag behind the counter what had happened, he started shaking his head to say there was nothing he could do. When my friend pushed back, he just got louder and more aggressive, so that people in the store started to turn around to see what was going on at the register. He continued to get louder and keep saying there was nothing they could do. He wouldn’t check the inventory, call the shoe brand, even consider store credit, nothing. He was not only ill-​mannered, inappropropriate, unprofessional, and downright rude, he broke every rule of customer service. And I would know. I manage a customer support team for a very large research company.
This felt like a blatant display of sexism. This douche (Not only does he pop his collar, he wears white Wayfarers. Dude, get a life and some style. No wonder Boston was voted «worst dressed» by GQ. With douche bags like you in their «fashion» industry, the entire city is screwed.) This guy, who when we asked to see a manager, cut us short and said «I am the manager,» so another win for this fine establishment, clearly had no intention of helping my friend, at all, or listening to her concerns or offering any kind of solution besides saying NO.
Never in my life have I ever been treated so poorly by someone in the customer service industry. This store should seriously re-​evaluate their hiring and training practices if individuals like this guy end up in management. I will never shop here again and I advise that no one in Boston visit this store or risk being treated like garbage by their holier than thou employees.

Funny how people review the store based on the girls at the counter not saying much when asked, «How are you?» Its a shoe store, not a friend store.
Now as far as what the store is there for, TB ROCKS. I went in their today hoping I could find a pair of boots on sale. I found a pair I liked, but no sale sticker (sad face). I asked the man working there if there was any deal now or coming up with this particular pair of boots since its March and a lot of boots were on sale. He quickly picked up the boot and said, «Let me see what I can do for you. We can probably get you about half off on these.» The boots were 178 dollars. I only paid 83! They are fabulous beautiful boots that have just opened up my wardrobe since I can wear them with anything. This store knows what they are doing. If you are here to buy shoes, then it fully deserves its 5 stars.

I could spend entire paychecks in this store, and will if I’m not careful! They have shelves and shelves of shoes ranging from sneakers-​flats-​heels-​boots. They have it all.
I love their final sale shelf. If you’re lucky, you can find an amazing pair of shoes for more than 50% off the regular price! The employees are always very friendly and helpful as well. Love this store.

Definitely a good selection of shoes, but when I walked into the store it was completely empty. Actually, there was no customers but there WERE 2 salesgirls gossiping at the register. They glanced at me, I smiled and asked them how they were, they went back to their conversation. Excuse me?
I think if you’re working at a clothing store on Newbury, you’re not just selling a product– you’re selling a persona. I don’t want to buy from a bunch of jerks!

I’ve been to many shoe stores and TB is average — carrying moderately priced brands, it skews younger. You’ll find the latest styles from Seychelles, Steve Madden, BCBG, Onitsuka Tiger, Chinese Laundry, etc. Personally I think the selection is comparable to Brass Plum Shoes at Nordstrom’s. Nordstrom’s has a wider range of brands and styles though. Expect to pay retail, unless you find something on sale.

It’s a pretty good assortment of shoes so there should be lots to suit anyone’s needs. On the other hand, the sales girls were awful. Whoever was working the night of February 24^th should be fired. I only stuck around because I really wanted to try on a pair of shoes and they were at a great price.
The two space cadets were unfriendly and not the least bit helpful. They need a lesson about working in retail, and honestly since they looked like they hated their jobs so much — QUIT! It’d be better for all of us. I was never greeted. When asking to try on a shoe, they looked frustrated that I wanted them to bring me my size. Not only that but I didn’t even realize when they have finally brought the shoes back since they just plopped the shoes down beside me. Hello? Retail requires talking. If you don’t have enough brain cells to move your mouth and produce a sound then maybe I should just get the shoes myself.

Woohooo for my new Steve Madden ridiculous ankle boots (about a 4 and ½ inch heel, not too shabby for crazy boots but hey I need to fake some height every now and again). And exceptionally happy that they were 50% off! Quick and painless shopping experience, and particularly good for me since I have small feet and can grab up last pairs!

I’m giving Thom Brown 4 stars despite the fact that I walked out of there with a pair of $ 92 shoes that were in the clearance section that I paid full price for. I can’t tell you how much buyer’s remorse I suffered THAT day, no matter how cute the shoes were.
At any rate, Thom Brown has a pretty decent selection of shoes: flats, sandals, sneakers, pumps, CFM heels, and boots. It seems like the store is clearly divided: on one side you have your flat, practical shoes (which I tend to gravitate towards), and on the other side beckon the impractical shoes that make your ass and legs look fabulous, foot and back pain be damned.
The sales staff didn’t seem terribly eager to go out of their way to engage customers. You know what I mean: the «Hi, how are you, can I help you find anything today?» spiel. Which is all well and good for me, for despite being socialized, I still get sort of flustered when the sales staff do that. I personally kind of prefer to do my own thing and then ask for help if I really need it. When I found the pair of shoes I would end up spending an exorbitant amount on, I had no trouble getting an employee to find my size in back. However, I was kind of uneasy when two employees chattered on in another language and, being the paranoid person that I am, felt that it must have been something about me. Kind of like that Seinfeld episode where Elaine goes to the Korean salon, where the employees talk about her in Korean right in front of her.
Anyway, I don’t have much occasion to go shoe-​shopping at nicer places, since I tend to stick to the low-​brow venues (hello, Payless!), but Thom Brown is a good bet if you need something a little more special. I love my new shoes.

Anyone who knows me well, knows that shoes are my number one favorite thing to buy. I have quite a collection, necessitating these special shelves in my closet that my husband designed and built himself, as a surprise for me one weekend…
Anyway, this particular Thom Brown is my favorite shoe store. They have a fun, creative selection, and I seldom can escape without buying at least a couple of pairs. For flats I think they’ve got the best selection I’ve ever seen… at least for reasonable prices. If I wanted to drop $ 500 a pair I could go elsewhere on Newbury, but I don’t want to, so TB is perfect!
I always find what I’m looking for here, hence the 5 stars. But TB is definitely trendy, so if you’re looking for something sensible and timeless, like Clark’s, you might want to pass on this one and head somewhere like the Tannery instead.

i LOVE the shoes in this store, practically every pair. they are adorable. however the prices here are not great. like $ 50 for sandals, which kind of feels like a lot. plus the salespeople are not very pro-​active so when you actually want to try on a shoe you have to look for somebody, and you’re never quite sure who’s a salesperson or not since they don’t wear any nametags or anything, so you just have to expectantly look in the face every 20 or 30something looking woman who looks hip. seriously!

Filled to the brim with shoes. It’s hit or miss with this place most of the time. When they have sales you can nab a pair of nice shoes for really cheap. Their normal prices however can be a little high considering the quality of some of the shoes. I’ve bought a few pairs of dress shoes here when I was in a pinch and needed a pair ASAP and I usually managed to get a pair for around $ 40, but nothing high quality. Not worth it for their sneakers though unless they are on sale, I’ve seen MUCH cheaper prices for PUMA online.

Yes, I’m fond of shoes. Very fond. And this store is filled with eye candy! From very wearable styles to über trendy, this shop has a lot of variety. Prices aren’t bad for what you’re buying, and actually are about average for the brands/​styles/​etc. If you find a pair you love and MUST HAVE, I highly recommend buying then when you see them.
Many a time I have put off a purchase only to find they were all gone or out of my size. Their sales shelfs can hold hidden delights, but depending on the season/​styles, can also be a good source for laughter at what someone actually thought might sell…
I’ve found their sales staff rather helpful on most occasions. I can’t think of one occasion when I had a bad experience. Although there are times I’ve been in there and the sales staff was way too into their own conversations or talking to non-​customers to approach someone standing at the counter asking for help with a size, etc. Not that it’s a very bad thing, sometimes it’s nice not to be stalked by a sales person when you’re shopping.

I love the shoes here. I especially love the sneakers. I have bought many pairs here over the years. Be prepared to spend upwards of $ 60.00 for trendy shoes. They carry fun and trendy clothing as well.
