Went here a couple of times years ago back when they were downstairs at the corner, just went back today because my regular barber at DiSalvo’s was on vacation. Ronnie’s the only guy working at the new, smaller location at street level. He’s also the owner — he took over after the two owners at the old location passed away. He’s classic old-school Boston. Thick accent, jogging suit, loves to talk. He did a good job, and you won’t find a better cut at this price anywhere in downtown Boston. $ 16 for the cut and another $ 4 for a beard trim and lineup, can’t beat it. The place is, like Ronnie, a little beat up and rough around the edges. That’s what I want in a barbershop. I’m glad Boston hasn’t priced out all the old guys like this and while I’ll still keep going to Mike at DiSalvo’s as my main guy, I won’t hesitate to come back here when Mike’s busy. Note that the phone number Unilocal has is disconnected. He’s got a cell phone but I didn’t get his number. Also note that he’s not a licensed barber, so no hot foam and straight razor at the end. He said the state wanted him to do another 500 hours of training to get a license to use a razor. That’s about the only downside to going to him.

Ronnie has been cutting my hair for years. He does a great job at an even greater price! In and out quickly during a busy work day makes it an even better value. Ronnie pays close attention to detail and is good for some laughs as well.

Old style barber. This is where MEN go to get a hair cut. It may not be decked out like the barbershop in the North End, but you will leave with a better hair cut than you would get anywhere else in the city.

Solid! Ronnie was my barber. He was personable and did a pretty good job on my hair. I told him that I want an 8 on the top blended into a 3 on the sides with a tapered neck and the guy did exactly that. I have real fine hair and it tends to show my scalp but he was cognizant of that and did a real good job with my demands especially for using a blade trimmer. The dude before me had his beard trimmed and with a hetero mind state I must say it looked good. The cut was $ 16– can’t beat it for a shop so proximate to downtown. I have to admit most shops in downtown Boston suck. I’ve been to 4 and hated every experience. Uptown Dowtown was quick, easy and I liked the way I looked afterwards. Kudos to this place!

Went here on Tuesday for a haircut and realized when I got home that night that«Ronnie» had given me a serious abrasion(looks like tank tread marks on my neck). Needless to say I will NOT be going back.
