Vision North

Fantastic staff and business! Honest, great pricing, and truly wonderful staff! I had a contact lens «emergency» while visiting Boston, and was probably vulnerable to anyone who would have wanted to rip me off! I saw the online reviews for Vision North, and went there for help… They were incredibly helpful, and truly honest, good people. I’m thinking of traveling to Boston once-​per-​year to use them in the future! :)

Wow! Excellent service!
Long story– but here goes.
I came in with eye pain that wouldn’t go away, and Dr. Paul M. Cangiano did a thorough examination. He took pictures of the back of the eye, and looked for anything that might be causing the pain. During the routine eye exam, took a genuine care in making sure everything was working fine. He also asked a lot of questions to see what might have been causing my eye pain, and in the end, prescribed eye drops that helped with the pain/​allergies that were causing this issue. A week later, my eye twitch, eye pain, and dryness were all gone!
During my visit, I also decided to buy new glasses and contacts. Best part? He and his assistant looked at my health insurance, and told me what would be the best approach in terms of glasses/​contacts prices and made sure I went with what was most beneficial to me. I also got 2 pairs of free contact lenses to try out, decide which ones I wanted, and then bought the one that I thought was best.
This location is right by Haymarket, and it’s hours are truly great.
I loved coming here! There is no doubt that my future glasses and contacts will all be from here!

Dr. Cangiano is kind, patient, professional, and very knowledgeable. I tried on my first pair of contacts at his office, and I think it took me about 50 tries to get them in. But Dr. Cangiano was incredibly patient through the process – he would not let me leave until I got it, and gave me countless tips which eventually helped me get it down :) Beyond that, I never wait around before my appointments – he is very punctual – which I find incredible given the time he takes with all of his patients.
His staff is great, too – Kelly helped me to pick out my first pair of eye glasses and gave me really great feedback on the best fit for my face, showing the same patience that Dr. Cangiano did in my quest for the perfect frames. I was really pleased with the results, and continue to be with each appointment.

Dr. Cangiano is so wonderful. He is very friendly and knowledgeable. He explains things well and is extremely patient. I would recommend him to anyone. Also, the receptionist was very nice and welcoming. Overall a 5-​star experience for sure.

Dr Cangiano’s care was beyond all my expectations. He answered all my questions, used the latest equipment and adjusted my contact prescription so I can see dramatically better.

Dr. Cangiano and his staff are perfection. They are friendly, knowledgeable and always available for an opinion or question.
Dr. Cangiano is kind, intelligent and does not rush you. He really knows his stuff and will not recommend something unless he absolutely believes it is necessary.

These folks stand by their product and are pleasant to deal with. I got glasses here about three months ago. Nose bridge broke. I went back to store. No problem. No grief. Frames replaced in one day.

I did not see the doctor, but went there for just to get glasses. The lady in the front was so helpful. Eventhough i got the cheapest option, she spent at least half an hour to find me perfect pair of glasses. Their selection of cheaper glasses are big enough. She answered all of my questions nicely.

Dr. Cangiano is the best. He takes his time giving you a thorough exam and makes sure you have the right prescription and contact fit. This place is a true neighborhood institution– but one I would recommend to anyone in Boston regardless of where they live.

I honestly can not say enough about Paul and the vision north staff. I would give them 10 stars if I could. They are courteous, responsive and knowledgeable. I recommend Vision North to all my friends and family. Outstanding care.

I’m a military member and don’t have very much free time and at the least I hate spending it in a doctor type place. But they were easily willing to work around my busy schedual to help me make the transition to contacts for the first time.
2 short appointments later I’m feeling great and got my contacts figured out.
On the day of picking up my order I also asked to get sunglasses and I was able to have help right then and there to pick out a pair for me and my active life style.

Walked in to fill a lens prescription that I had gotten while traveling out of the country. I’d done this at the shop without a problem before, working with the woman at the front desk.
This time the optician, larger gruff looking guy, came out. He pretended to not understand the script and told me he couldn’t honor it. I said thanks, and made to leave, and the shop owner shouted after me, «well NO ONE will honor it!». Um, anger issues?
So, I found a place later that afternoon that did. I’m happily wearing contacts now and have a new go-​to optical shop.

i dont know too much about eye-​doctoring, or «optometry» for the fancies, but i can tell you that my exams have always been thorough and beneficial. so an uneducated A+ for dr. cangiano.
what i do know a lot about is how to treat other people, and let me tell you, kelly and chris who work the front reception are incredible. especially KELLY! (nothing against chris, i just seem to deal more with kelly).
Kelly has gone out of her way on more than one occasion to seriously help me out… like opening the store up an HOUR EARLY on a WEEKEND (yes they’re open on saturdays) to get me my contacts that i had left until the last minute possible, all so that i didn’t have to extend the time on my zipcar (ie. saved me money, time, and made up for my mistake).
Kelly has also gone to crazy lengths for me with getting my contacts and has dealt with 1800 contacts on an emergency basis for me (i again left contacts to the last minute and they were not in stock at vision north so i had to go to 1800 contacts, which is, by the way, way more expensive than getting contacts at vision north), and has even spoken directly to accuvue, the people who make the contacts, to help me out with a customer service issue between me and accuvue. it had literally nothing to do with vision north, but kelly got on the phone and talked to them and in the end helped me out a ton.
I have also called kelly in the middle of the day while at work when one of my contacts ripped and she was able to get me a pack of testers just so that i didnt have to make the trip on the bus home to get a new one. (their office is about a 15 min walk from my work and taking the bus would have been at least an hour and a half round trip)
i can’t say enough good things about kelly. and the best part is, i can tell she doesnt do this because «the customer is always right» or because she feels she has to; she is just genuinely that nice and good of a person.
the absolute most reliable business of any kind i have ever dealt with.
nb: when those contacts of mine were not in stock, it’s because i called vision north on a monday when i was leaving for a vacation on a wednesday and would run out of contacts on vacation. i would not expect my specific brand/​prescription, etc to be in stock two days before i absolutely needed them, but i was hoping they might have them in. obviously they don’t keep a small stock of contacts set aside for me for every time i forget to re-​order, so it was entirely my fault. all the other times i order contacts from vision north they usually come in about a week and they call me right away when they come in or will have them shipped right to my house.

As a bespectacled gal, I get rather psyched up for my biennial eye exam and the prospect of new glasses. (Nerdy, I know.) This time around I had a small VSP provider network to choose from, so I went out on a limb and chose Vision North. I called and was able to get an appointment the following day after work. It’s reasonably walkable from most downtown spots, or just a short jaunt from North Station.
Dr. Cangiano was quite friendly and knowledgable. He took some fascinating and detailed digital photos of the ol’ eyeballs (a first for me!) and then did a standard eye exam. I am a fierce hypochondriac, and he graciously answered all my crazy questions about my apparent increased risk of developing age-​related macular degeneration. Everything went smoothly and I was out in about 20 minutes.
Now, I think their prices were steep. Polycarbonate lenses with all the add-​ons would have run me ~$ 180. That’s a hell of a lot! I didn’t bother pricing any frames after hearing that, so I can’t comment on those. All I know is that my current pair of Italian made frames and polycarbonate lenses with all the add-​ons cost me $ 150 at Costco sans insurance discount. I’m sure the prices are reflective of the location, but there are better deals to be had out there.

I found their office very difficult to deal with, and they were unable to process insurance claims properly (despite being an in-​network provider).

I can’t say enough great things about Dr. Cangiano and his team. Dr. Cangiano is very good about explaining what is going on with my eyes, and I always feel at ease during my appointments. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Great atmosphere and great service!

Went back for another appointment and needed both contacts and glasses. This place continues to impress me. The service is outstanding. Dr. Cangiano takes his time with each patient. You never feel rushed, you never have to wait and his prices are very, very reasonable. I was also AMAZED at the price of my glasses. $ 99 for stylish glasses including lenses! He also matched the 1800-​contacts price for my contacts. parking can be a pain, but he is right across from Haymarket T.

Dr. Cangiano is fantastic and the selection of quality frames is absurd.
The doc is great ensuring your eye health is great and takes as much time with you as you need when you can’t quite decipher between option 1? or 2?, 1? or 2?. He also has great style and can help you choose a frame that works best with your features.
As a first time contact lens person, Dr. Cangiano was very patient as it seemed to take me forever to get the hang of it. He gave me options of lenses to try for a few weeks before opting for the larger purchase. Couldn’t ask for more!
The frame selection is great with various price points, and one of the few Chanel retailers in the area. Sunglasses are great too, Ray Bans and Kaenons! Vision North is def worth a look ;-) especially if you can’t see, well!

I’m from a small town in NY and I’ve been going to the same optometrist for about twenty years. I’d squeeze in appointments while visiting home and I’ve done just about everything I can do to avoid finding an eye doctor here. However, I found a BuyWithMe that had an exam and $$ towards eye glasses, which I desperately needed.
This office isn’t in a very convenient location for me but I can tell you that I’ll make the extra effort to get there — Dr. Cangiano and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. After my exam, (I wish I could remember her name!) we spent quite some time picking out the perfect shape eyeglasses (which isn’t an easy task as I’m very indecisive) and she even helped me select the right color. I ended up going with a cute pair of purple Tory Burch frames and I still adore them. Their prices are very reasonable and they’ll definitely work with you to get you something that fits within your budget.
I will definitely be going back when I’m ready for contacts.

You know how you go into the dentist’s or doctor’s office and think to yourself «these guys went to school for 8 years and somehow have less business sense than the manager at ⁷⁄₁₁?» Usually, it’s an underwhelming space filled with mediocre service.
Generally, that’s what I encounter when I find a new optometrist. Vision North was the exception and exceptional in every way:
–absurd, wide selection of frames
–very competitive prices
–Dr. Cangiano and his staff provide great service (appointments are on time, followup is prompt and the Dr. is genuinely talented)
