City of Bothell

City of Bothell is expanding, they are building, new pavement on streets, new businesses, new hotels and new apartments, so downtown Bothell will be busy.

Sitting here enjoying the gas fireplace and a nice hot meal in this weather, while preparing for more of this WINTER BLAST CRISIS of ’08, I’ve thought back on the last snow to hit my area.
All but one of the hills I must take up, then down, to get out of my neighborhood were closed for days. And not until dozens of cars were spun out, stuck, wrecked all up and down them. One particular nasty hill was reopened way too early for the conditions.
If you were able to get out to the main roads, you found a lot of the same. Efforts being made, but just not enough for how this area has just exploded in population in the last few years.
This time around… those same hills were closed again.
This time, the decision was made MUCH faster, with much less damage. The most heavily traveled of the hills cleared and opened safely faster as well. One remains rightly closed days later. The main roads were nearly completely clear or amazingly improved within 24 hours of the first measurable snow fall, and have remained that way throughout the length of this weather.
I have successfully, and safely, found routes out of my neighborhood avoiding the biggest hills. They are still slick and dangerous, but have been passable. I’m staying in mainly because of the unsafe drivers in the conditions. I’m the one who actually *increases* my following distance and *decreases* my speed in the snow and ice.
The «side roads’, many of which really are ‘main roads’ to so many of us out here en route to the freeway, are still slick and near solid sheets of ice, but they show activity of regular attention from sanding, deicing and plow trucks.
The ‘decision makers» here in Bothell actually LEARNED something from last time. They learned, and then even more shockingly, they ACTED.
They’re doing something right here in Bothell, and not just with snow.
