rock STAR tan bar in Bothell, WA began as Sun Studios. Opened by the Wilaby family in 1995, Sun Studios Bothell was the 2nd location. After changing ownership a couple of times, it is now part of the Wilaby family again.

i used this place for 4 months only because I was foolish enough to buy a package deal there. The place is filthy!!! There is a community hand towel in bathroom to use. I asked if they were doing paper towels and was told no. The same piece of garbage was on the floor the entire time I used stand up bed. (I would NOT lay on any bed) The people working were FAR TOO awful to deal with.

I have started to go in on Sunday’s because they have a ten dollar spray tan everyday Sunday deal. And I have so surprised at 1. The price 2. Just how non-​high-​school and friendly the girl at the front was. I am a so used to the women being half way rude that I dread the whole experience but not this time. Definitely going back!

Awesome tanning place! They have a standing tanning bed that makes me feel like I’m in a space ship, and It makes me ever so happy. We do $ 10 tans after 10:00pm like twice a week, and we drive all the way from Kirkland for it!
Never get rid of the spaceship tan!

The highlight of this place is definitely the $ 10 after 10 tanning they do Mon-​Fri. And all days on Sunday’s. The let down is probably the staff. They always seem a bit annoyed your coming in, but it’s probably because they know I’m coming in for a cheap tan before bed. I’ll return because the pricing is unbeatable when it comes to spraying.

This place gives terrible customer service! The employees are lazy and judgey and only want to trick you out of a buck anyway they can. I often wonder if they even properly clean the beds and the nozzles on their spray tan are always dirty which makes it drippy and splotchy. If their employees weren’t such weasels I wouldn’t even be writing this. Me and several people I know have had awful experiences!

I used this place in high school and all through out college for my versaspa spray tans and regular tanning! Never had a problem with them-​they are never pushy about sales and their atmosphere is nice. Because I work for a rival salon I don’t tan here but when I get a new job I wi definitely be a regular customer! I’m also interested in the other services they offer! I knocked a star off because the last time I was in there, their beds were outdated and parts were broken off the beds.

After a year hiatus due to being in Bellingham for college, I plan on coming back to Rockstar. Throughout high school, I would periodically get spray tans at various locations including Seattle Sun Tan and Trppical Tan, but once I went to Rockstar I was hooked. First, it’s a very family-​like environment here, the front desk ladies give you as much support as you need. Secondly, it is EXTREMELY clean and has that wonderful smell of coconut suntan lotion. Third, is the quality. The spray tans are so smooth and long lasting. I would also recommend their fake eyelashes, affordable and glamorous for a special event. I will be a lifelong fan as long as I’m in the area. Now go get tan!

Came here 2 days ago for a 10 $ after 10pm spray tan. I woke up the next morning with my body looking diseased (especially my hands) because the tan speckled the solution all over my body even though I used circular motions with a towel after getting out of the versa spa to rub it in. There was nothing I could do because it was my birthday party that night and it sucked. I spent my whole morning going from store to store to try and buy something I could use to remove this and everyone said that once the solution is set in your skin you have to wait to exfoliate it for it to remove. HANDS DOWN the WORST experience I’ve ever had and I tan frequently. I recommend desert sun spray tans. I have a package there but rockstar stays open till midnight and that’s the only time I could go because I was so busy getting ready for my party Friday. Point is, this place sucks for spray tans, I was a client here a couple years ago and they still sucked so I went to desert sun and never been happier.

I use the $ 5 spray tan deals every Tuesday, and I’ve never had a problem until two weeks ago. Maybe the nozzles weren’t clean or something– I don’t know — but when I did my normal Medium bronze, the solution showed up very speckled on my arms, and I had some very unusual lines that I’ve never had before. I used the same amount of barrier cream and whatnot, so I’m hoping this was just a one-​time weird occurrence. The first employee that answered when I called was very understanding a put a free spray back on my account (I was leaving for a trip a few days after), but when I called again with questions, the girl was kind of snotty and told me that I probably «accidentally rubbed off my tan», although I’m not exactly sure how you «rub off» a spray tan into a speckled pattern. Oh well, spray tans fade, and I still would recommend Rock Star to my friends, but maybe I’ll use the clear solution from now on and hope for the best:)
–Update–
It’s been almost two weeks and somehow this spray tan is still holding on, and is rubbing off in weird places.

Honestly the only reason I am writing this review is because of the girl that works there. Her name is Trista and she is the best at customer service. I came in with my friend and she answered every single one of our annoying questions, and with a smile. She is great at her job, great at customer service. Plus, this place has the best deals! They have $ 10 spray tans after 10pm and then they have the $ 5 spray tan on Tuesdays if you buy a t-​shirt. A t-​shirt is $ 30 bucks and they even come in neon!(: Consider it an investment. Look beautiful with no skin damage at a great place, and inexpensive price, and great customer service. And again, thanks Trista.

I decided to stop in to Rock Star after a really bad, streaky spray tan in the old Mystic at Tropical Tan (that I ended up having to shower off). I went in to try the $ 10 Sunday spray tan, and was happy they had the VersaSpa machine that does four passes and dries you off (like the newer Mystic. It was great, they were very nice, and and excellent deal. Thanks! I’ll definitely be back. :)
*UPDATE*
I wanted to give an update on my VersaSpa tan at Rock Star. I have only previously used the old Mystic and the new Mystic, and I have to say I like this tan from Rock Star MUCH better. It’s more subtle and matches my skin tone better, and it turned out very even and glowing. I love it! I’m glad the girl at the desk recommended the medium tan (I was super skeptical because I have always had light at Mystic, and it’s pretty dark!), because it’s perfect. One thing I’ll remember for next time: She said to not spread the lotion anywhere but my fingernails and toenails, but I think next time I’ll apply to my hands and feet because I have some weird streaks on my fingers now.

I like the $ 10 after 10. But my spray tan washed off in one shower. I literally watched it come off and I didn’t shower for a whole day after I got it to make sure it would stay. Never had that problem before. A lot of people seem to have a problem with the front desk girl too. Every time I’ve gone in someone has had confrontation.

I had purchased a living social deal for a bikini wax and heat wrap. Megan the owner did my wax and did an awesome job and Anna was very caring and attentive when I had my body wrap, in fact I signed up for 6 more sessions!!! Great place!

Beware of the sweet deal gone sour!!! Don’t buy Unilocal deal, unless you read between lines …
Bought $ 40 for $ 20 Unilocal deal, used this coupon on 03÷11÷12, at the time were told that it would give $ 40 credit on the account to be used for future tanning sessions. Used credit on 03÷11÷12 and 03÷19÷12, tanning sessions were $ 11.95 each = $ 23.90, leaving me with $ 16.10 on the account. Came on 03÷22÷12, at that time wre told that I did not have a credit left and that the deal through Unilocal would have to be used at ones. I had a copy of email with me, so I pulled it up, nowhre does it say it has to be used at ones, moreover, we were able to use the deal and credit on 03÷11÷12 and 03÷19÷12, so when I brought it up, I was told that this is a recent change, that Unilocal coupon was not explained to the front desk staff and that it was supposed to be for use in one visit. I tried to argue that since my coupon doesn’t say that, it would not apply to my case, not much luck either.
Really upset now with the way this turned out, had to pay for tanning session on 03÷22÷12, while I should have had $ 16.10 left on the account.

Needing to start tanning for a vacation, I was excited to see a Unilocal deal for tanning right near the house. First visit was after hours so my tan was $ 10. I tried to use my Unilocal coupon but the girl at the counter said I couldn’t.
At first I was frustrated that the girls couldn’t help me figure out how to use the Unilocal deal, however, they were helpful enough to tell me how to reach the manager Megan so I could get the answers I was looking for. Megan not only explained it, but did all the computer set up so when I came in again I didn’t have to «do» anything. She even took the time to explain which beds would be best for me to use.
The place is clean, well maintained and the beds are not old and run down. I would come here again and again for tanning. I only wish the girls at the counter understood their own equipment a little better, but I am sure it is just a learning curve.

This is seriously IMO the best place to tan in all of WA. Well at least within a 30 mile radius from Seattle. $ 10 for any bed after 10pm and all day Sunday. Yes you can even do a high pressure =) DEALS!!! Fantastic service, clean rooms/​beds and did I mention… Only $ 10! So before you get ripped off by Seattle Sun Tan or Desert Sun, check out Rock Star!
