History
Established in 1965.
Camp Hammer began in 1965 when Pastors Roy and Ralph Kraft, twin brothers, were led to start a summer camp for children. The Kraft brothers and Twin Lakes Church purchased one hundred acres of redwood forest just outside of Big Basin State Park. When the potential for losing the property began to loom Francis and Dorothy Hammer stepped in to help. The Hammers were successful, retired rice farmers who saw the benefits of the Kraft brothers’ vision. The Hammers purchased the land and turned the land back over to Twin Lakes Church to run mainly as a summer camp and an off-season retreat center.
