Air Care Colorado Emissions Testing

Horrible service. They knew my check engine light was on from when I got out of the car, but proceeded to make me pay for for the service simply to tell me my check engine light was on. So I have 10 days to get this turned off. I fix the problem, go back in, and get turned away… AGAIN! This place is bullshit and the employees are bullshit.

Nice people, reasonable price, very quick service. So they only accept cash and checks — I like paying with cash so this was not a problem. It was $ 25 for the smog-​check and another $ 20 for the VIN verification (for new license plates). Entire visit probably only took 12 mins.

Sitting in line on a cold snowy day. At least 7 workers but only one of 5 bays open. They are all huddling around and occasionally taking smoke breaks. Looks like a leisure snow day for them. Very, very frustrating

Read the signs as you arrive, they may save you time and will get everybody through faster. Pretty efficient operation, especially if you follow the instructions!
The accept cash and check. IF you write a check, they are quite strict with the rules, so if you don’t have a current local check, you better bring cash.
Accepts credit cards: NO

At least they now have 2 all wheel drive lanes. Last time I went, 2 years ago, they had 3 lanes open, only one for all-​wheel drive– and this is Boulder! Land of too many Subarus, one of which I was trying to get tested. The backup was extreme, the workers in the other lanes, just hanging out and not working. I talked to a supervisor who was so aggressively rude to me that I called state headquarters later.
I was informed that the state plan included ramping up another all wheel drive lane in Boulder and Fort Collins.
Today, I breezed through, both AWD lanes working efficiently and one lone vehicle in the regular lane. Everyone was polite and quick. It should always be like this.

The nice part about this testing facility is that it is near Boulder Municipal Airport so you can watch planes take off/​land while you’re waiting for your car.
Staff is friendly and the testing process was sooooo easy. Thanks, Boulder!

I was one of the first people in the Denver area to buy a Toyota Prius (Nov. 2000), which is «Emissions Exempt» … :-) But my Mom still lives in Boulder, and still drives a cream-​puff 1993 Honda Civic. She has me take it up to this station for emissions testing every other year, and it’s usually been a «tolerable» experience. I also don’t like the no-​credit-​cards factor … but the techs have always been quick, knowledgeable, and courteous. And, in the greater scheme of things, they are on the front lines of keeping our air cleaner … so Thanks,

This business does NOT take credit cards. I could not believe that a business of this size and means has not joined the 21^st century. In my opinion, it demonstrates a complete lack of customer service — and simple greed. I’m assuming they don’t want to pay the fees charged by credit cards. You take the time to go there — and of course you have to go there if you want your vehicle registration to be renewed, — only to see a sign when you get in line that says «CASH ONLY». Of course I had to get out of line and go get the cash and come back. Ridiculous. The least they could do is provide an ATM machine. I’m giving them one star for poor business practice, and adding one more for friendly, efficient staff. The technicians got my car through the line in as short a time as possible. (It does seem counterproductive to be sitting in line with your car running for over half an hour to have your emissions tested, however.) This place needs some competition.
