History
Established in 2012.
Zumba is a dance fitness program created by Colombian dancer and choreographer Alberto «Beto» Perez during the 1990s.
Zumba involves dance and aerobic elements. Zumba’s choreography incorporates hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue, mambo and martial arts. Squats and lunges are also included. Approximately 14 million people take weekly Zumba classes in over 140,000 locations across more than 150 countries. Zumba sessions are typically about an hour long and are taught by licensed instructors. The exercises include music with fast and slow rhythms, as well as resistance training.
Mary Kay Gilson and Donna Shonle, Zumba Instructors, have strong dance backgrounds with a love for people. Nothing makes us happier than a room full of laughing, sweaty, dancers.

I’ve danced all of my life with formal dance training as a child and teen. I danced my way through the 70s, 80s and 90s. Then, somehow, dancing wasn’t as popular and I would have to go to a gym to exercise just to stay in shape. Not fun for me. Discovering Zumba has set me free! It’s a complete fitness workout disguised as fun. Once I started doing Zumba, I haven’t done anymore crunches or sit ups! I got so hooked that I decided to become a Zumba Instructor so I could share this experience with everyone I know. I love my dancers… they inspire me to cue my best and bring fresh choreo to keep our classes fresh and full of fun energy!
