History

Established in 1992.

The business (Cutting Edge Sports) was founded by Lynn Probst and Joe Richardson 1992. In 2004 they sold the business to Brian Bauer and David Wert within a few years both stores we’re converted and branded The Trek Bicycle Store.

Business Owner

Born and raised in Golden, Colorado, I started in the bicycle industry more than 15 years ago after graduating from the University of Colorado and surviving a short career in finance. Once here, it didn’t take long for the lifestyle, passion, and beauty of this sport to capture my imagination. From my first job as a bicycle salesman to my most recent position as a Global Brand Manager for Trek Bicycle Company, I have travelled the world living, loving, and riding bicycles. And from each stop along the way I have learned, collected, and absorbed everything I’ve seen that makes cycling the amazing sport that it is.

Elevation Cycles is the culmination and expression of all these experiences. For me, passion is contagious, riding is bliss, and learning is an endless pursuit. Come on by, grab a new ride, share a story, have a coffee, or just let us give your bike a little love. We’ll do our best to make your stay something special.

Great shop with great service. Purchased a Trek Emonda road bike from Chris and Parker and received excellent service that I haven’t received at other shops. They took the time to fit me on the bike, swap parts (no cost to me) to improve the fit, answer questions, and take time to test ride and make up my mind. Since then I have used them for service and they do great work on time. First place I go for my bike related needs.

This review is primarily regarding the shop service. After being told by Boulder Cycle Sport that they would charge me for airing up some tubeless tires (already mounted), I decided I did not want my business going there. The guys in the shop at Elevation were very cordial in airing up my tires, and were not at all put off by doing it. So, I came back another time to air up some other tires and asked about a mt. bike fork overhaul. It wasn’t a rush on my part, but they said they’d start that day and try to get it back the next. They did exactly that. Plus, they noticed my lock out cable was frayed, and changed it for no charge.
They will definitely get my business again. It’s the little things that go a long, long way to gaining the confidence of a customer!

I’m new to road biking (just got hooked doing RAGBRAI!) and the amount of time that the folks at Elevation spent with me figuring out exactly the right bike for me has been incredible! I’ve had really bad experiences (especially being female) at other bike shops in the past, so I’ve always been a little wary, but I had nothing but great help at Elevation. The knowledge of their team is impressive, they weren’t at all condescending to someone that was new to this whole thing, and they were incredibly friendly. I have nothing but great things to say about my experience at Elevation and they’ll be the only bike shop I ever go to in Boulder!

Recently bought a Trek mountain bike from Elevation Cycles. I’m really impressed with the overall service level and friendliness at the new store. I think in the past this store was under different ownership when it was the Trek store Boulder. The whole vibe in the old store was cold and unfriendly but over the past year or two the Elevations crew has really been friendly and helpful every time I’ve gone in. I demo’ed a pretty expensive mt. bike for free — all the other shops in town seem to charge $ 150 or more to demo a bike. It really helped make up my mind and give me a good feel for the store.

Awesome store. They gave me a great deal on my girlfriends Trek Lush SL, and took care of all of the minor issues that we ran into after a few rides.
They even let her demo the bike for free before we bought it so that she could feel it out.
This store has great sales on bikes and equipment, a friendly knowledgable staff, and a good service department. I recommend highly.

Back in mid 2013, went to the trek store interested in the ~5k speed concept. I had a fit at retul and they recommend the speed concept as a good fit for me. When I got there, I was told that the Trek store didn’t stock the speed concept b/​c of a contract with another local store. That seems crazy to me! How can you not stock your own bikes in your flagship concept store. Was told I could visit a store in Denver to check out the 9.9 ~10k+ model, but I didn’t have a car at the time and that was a long ride! Several hours getting there and back, and i wasn’t willing to do that while it was snowing /​cold out. Ultimately just bought a Specialized Shiv instead, but the Speed Concept was my initial top choice. Too bad Trek doesn’t have better business sense.

My husband and I were looking for commuter/​town bikes for leisure rides with our boys. We checked several shops in town and in Longmont and had a good idea of what we wanted, but the Trek Store was the only shop who had what we wanted in stock, and ready for purchase.
My bike had to be built from the box, but they offered to build it in two sizes to be certain on the fit. Paul was incredibly helpful, patient with our outgoing, inquisitive boys, and not at all pushy for a sale. The store gave us a great deal on two bikes, helmets, and a vehicle rack. We’ll be back for parts, service, and my youngest son’s upgrade!

I will NOT do business again with the Trek Store on Baseline in Boulder and I would not recommend it to others. I bought a Trek Superfly 100 bike there and I love the bike, but the store (and its sales manager Joey) did not meet any recognizable standard of customer service.
Two weeks after I bought my $ 4000 bike, I called with a question, Joey said he would get the answer and call me back in «about 45 minutes» — it’s been three months and I’m still waiting for his call. I left him a voice mail message and talked to another member of his Trek staff, to remind Joey about the call. I never heard back from him or any of his staff.
There are so many great bike shops in Boulder (like University Bikes and the Sports Garage) there is no need to do business at the Trek Store!!!

Greeted right away and no wait when dropping off a bike. Asked them to put a bike back together after shipping via airline. Bike was in many pieces and pretty beat up. They asked if I wanted a tune up too and I said it had one recently, but just give me a call when you put it back together and tell me what it needs. Turn around time was quick and per the estimate and they called me. How many times have I had to call a service provider to find out if something was ready? Full service was provided — bike was cleaned up and put back together and all was tested. Checked the fit too when I picked it up.
My impression is this is a friendly, down to earth, professional, knowledgeable group and I sense they are honest and won’t sell you something (like a tuneup) you might not need. They provide a quality service and product. So they have earned my trust and my repeat business and that is hard to come by. Highly recommend.

I am so happy I purchased my bike from Trek. I bought a 7.5 FX on sale there last spring. I love my bike– perfect for commuting and weekend rides. After riding through the summer I stopped by for a free check-​up to make sure everything was wearing in correctly. They also offer a free full tune-​up with every bike purchase. I crashed my bike a few weeks ago and bent the front wheel. I was expecting to have to pay to have it fixed. I dropped in to the store just before closing. Joey trued my wheel in a few minutes and made sure everything was working for no charge. The guys working here are super friendly, helpful and knowledgable. I feel so confident having my bike serviced here and certain that I made a wise decision in buying from Trek.

I’m not much of a cyclist but when I was looking for a bike, I checked out the Trek store even though I was a bit intimidated by the über expensive bikes. The friendly and knowledgeable sales guy helped me clarify what I was looking for (I know next to nothing about bikes) and before I knew it I was on a test ride on a great bike in a color I liked. If you’re shopping for bikes, do yourself a favor and check out the Trek store, they’re not skivvy or pushy like some other bike stores. I highly recommend Trek!

These guys are so knowledgeable and helpful. They will answer any questions you have without being pushy. They even helped me out financially so that I could get the bike of my dreams! They support the community through sponsorship of local school’s cycling teams and local racers as well. Nice bikes, great service, great shop. Don’t park behind, Beau Jo’s will boot your car within minutes.
