Lucky’s Café is located in an awesome area in North Boulder next to Lucky’s market and Lucky’s Bakehouse and creamery. The brunch menu looked awesome with lots of options of traditional breakfast items. Signs behind the bar boasted their pride in locally sourced eggs, meat, and produce. After A LOT of tough decision making I went with the huevos rancheros and hash browns. My boyfriend had the eggs Benedict with the grits. While the dishes themselves looked intriguing, they just didn’t come together well on the plate. As they said, the ingredients tasted very fresh, and the ham on the eggs Benedict was incredible! But the hollandaise sauce, and the sauce on the huevos rancheros were not as delicious as I expected them to be. Hoping to go back and order the chicken fried chicken or the hashes next time to salvage this review!

Gave recommendations for best bang for our buck! We stayed over 30mins after they closed finishing eating and they were so sweet, told us to take our time.

Usually here for breakfast, today it is lunch. Amazing cheeseburger & fries, surprisingly all burgers are not the same especially in Boulder!

Looking for a homey breakfast place in North Boulder without having to go up to 28th or way down Broadway is now a possibility. Good plentiful Boulder Breakfast with pancakes(big fluffy ones is just $ 8.50) and ingredients are healthfully sourced. Really nice atmosphere with booths and tables and lots of sun and good parking. Very good addition to the neighborhood.

Great café near my home that makes down home breakfast and lunch and do it right. Really great food, excellent service and lovely place to hang out with friends!

Great place to go for pancakes/French toast. We’ve been back three times now, and I can resolutely say that sandwiches and other menu items are mediocre but the breakfast is pretty decent(we’ve also tried huevos rancheros(meh), BLT(also meh), and the club sandwich(double meh). I am NOT crazy about their non maple syrup, and the whole place has a definite grungy diner feel to it(lots of flies buzzing around us). In re-reading my review above, it sounds pretty negative. Don’t want to give the wrong idea, this place isn’t terrible. But it isn’t amazing either. If they cleaned up, got some real maple syrup, it would be much better.

We had breakfast here this morning and it was very good. We loved the house made blueberry jam and we were told they make different kinds of jam based on the fruit that is in season locally. That’s a great touch! My Eggs Benedict was very well prepared, and I loved the lemony hollandaise. Get there early as it appears to fill up quickly mid-morning – at 8am it was perfect.

Service is sub-par, at best. Staff friendliness doesn’t make up for lack of skill. I haven’t had water in 20 minutes to wash down my dry, untoasted, club. The $ 3.5 glass of milk is maybe suitable for a child. Needles to say, this will be my first and only trip here.

I have been coming here for years now and the food is better than ever. I have yet to try anything on the menu that I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed. With that said, the service is really holding them back. Seem to always wait 10 – 20 minutes to first talk to the server and when they do get to you they seem to rush you and are very short. You are lucky if they come back to the table to check on things or top off drinks.

Wow, this place really pissed me off. I’ve been traveling all over the world in the 11 months since my last visit to Luckys Café, and even with all that experience I remembered how good it was here. Well this morning, whatever quality of food I was served was overshadowed by the terrible service. I saw my server exactly twice: to take my order and to deliver my order. Uhm, can I at least get more coffee? This was during an entire hour that I sat in the small dining area and she never even made eye contact with me. My bill was delivered to my table at some point and I did not even see her do it, I put my credit card out, it was never retrieved, so I then took it to the cash register myself. Seriously, I just felt so dissed.

I have been going to Lucky’s for years. The food is always good, but they seem to be going through a hard time with the service people. I have sat a couple of times for several minutes before anyone knew I was there. Once they know you are there, things pick up. But, the food is consistently fresh, the bacon crispy(very important) and the dishes are imaginative and delicious!

I came with a large group, put my name in and the wait was 25 mins. After half an hour we checked with the hostess to find our table was just given to someone else with a party of 8. We ordered our meals, but when the food came out one order was completely forgotten and a side was missing from another. The food was tasty, but because the service was consistently sloppy I can’t give a great rating.

Service was only so-so. Overcharged for my food, which wasn’t even good. Read on for the details. I hadn’t been to Lucky’s in many years. I used to come about once a month for a weekend breakfast with my kids, but eventually, the food quality went too far downhill for me. Since they remade it a few years ago, I just hadn’t made the effort, until today. This morning, after I dropped off a book at the new NoBo library up the street, I realized I was hungry and headed over to give it a try. I was craving Chicken Fried Steak, though I wasn’t sure they even had it. I checked out the menu posted outside, saw they had it, so I went in. I was sat quickly, placed my order quickly, food arrived in good time along with my check. However, my meal was terribly and no one came by to ask me if all was good, or even if I’d like some more coffee. The herb roll and the gravy were over spiced. The roll was also buried under the steak, soaked in the over spiced gravy. The egg was perfect and on the side, as I had asked for it, but once I put it on the roll, I couldn’t even taste it. The roll and gravy overpowered it. My steak was huge, but very chewy and the coating on it was so thick, it was just awful. After a few bites, I lost my appetite. I then waited hoping someone would come by to ask if I wanted a to-go box. Nope. I had grab another waitress as she went by. By then, I had also noticed I was overcharged for my meal. I pointed that out to the waitress too. She apologized and took it away. However, she came back and said the computer wouldn’t let her change it but she had handwritten the bottom line. She then left quickly. I looked at my check again and she hadn’t adjusted the sales tax. At this point, I asked one of the bussers to get the manager. Guess what, it was that second waitress. I asked her if she was the manager, because she just looked too young to be one. She said yes, so I told her the problem. She took my check away again and came back with it correct this time, but honestly, what is going on here? Why when the menu has one price does the register spit out an higher one? Well, I paid in cash, left a tip, and went to Lucky’s Market to speak to a manager there. I told him the issues and he said, «I’m so sorry. Not sure what’s going on there. She didn’t even comp your meal?» «No she didn’t», I said, «And as bad as this meal was, I’ll never be back.» Well, he went over to the café, got my money back, though I told him I just wanted the cost of the meal, not the tip. He obliged, but also asked that I try again another time. I told I wouldn’t be back, sorry. The food was just too unappealing and the overcharging inexcusable. When I got home, I threw away the leftover meal. I knew I would never eat it and I didn’t see any homeless people on the way to give it to either.

Perfect way to spend a fall Sunday morning. Upon arrival we, my husband and I, were told a 20 – 25 min wait for breakfast/brunch. We didn’t mind strolling through the market next door and sitting in the sun and it actually was more like 15 minutes so even better! Our first time here we were surprised by the size of the menu, larger than we imagined and full of choices from local farms. Lots to choose from so many reasons to return. We settled on the Boulder breakfast(two eggs, choice of bacon or sausage, hash browns or grits and toast) I added the option of 2 pancakes for $ 1 and the Buffalo Joes Special(a scramble of local buffalo, spinach, onions, & seasoning that stood out and elevated the eggs) dishes were fresh, local eggs perfectly cooked, crispy tasty bacon and for a southern girl I give them a thumbs up on the grits, which is hard to do out west. My husband had the hash browns with his and I went in for more than one taste. Service was fast and on top of things. The café was busy and we felt very taken care of. Waters always filled on point and dishes cleared right on time. The café was smart to hang sound reduction from the ceiling which allowed us to have a good conversation in a packed house. No complaints except we wish we could’ve eaten more!

The service and food were both passable. I definitely think it’s worth stopping in and enjoying a meal here but I don’t know that there’s much reason to keep coming back unless it’s walking distance from your home or you’re in the area anyway. If you do go I suggest getting there early as the crowd starts building up around 9 and there can be a significant wait. I had the chilaquiles and while they weren’t anything memorable compared to other places I’ve had them they’re a good, hearty breakfast and won’t leave you disappointed.

Luckys is amazing, it’s great to have a mix of food at this little gem in north boulder… Yea it’s a little more pricey, but I’d so anything to support this local business. The meat counter is where it’s at, from a bacon to steaks, it’s all amazing. The only drawback? The parking lot is a nightmare(especially Friday afternoons in the summer), not necessarily with lacking parking spaces, but more with the lack of attention paid by other drivers, I’ve almost been hit multiple times by people just not paying attention… Watch yourself.

I’m a regular customer and have been coming to Lucky’s for over a year. The food is always good and I have tried almost everything on the breakfast menu but usually order the trailblazer with the grapefruit. When I first started coming it came in a nice sized bowl with delicious fruit and granola from the bakery across the parking lot on it. It definitely felt like a good value. Then they started putting it into jars and the amount of yogurt and granola started shrinking. In my last order I literally had three tablespoons of yogurt with granola sprinkled on top. When we asked why the amount seemed lower than usual they just said that was how it had always been. It’s $ 7 for just the yogurt fruit and granola plus another $ 3 for the grapefruit. Just as a comparison, if you walk across the parking lot to the Lucky’s bakery you can get a pound of granola for $ 7.99 and they will actually give you yogurt and granola for $ 3. I understand trying to make a profit but I feel like this is a little ridiculous. I’m hoping this review will help them to take a look at their pricing structure and fix it. It should be noted that the food is always very good and service once you’re seated is quick. It just feels like lately they are trying to nickel and dime the customers and that’s not necessary since they are always busy and people like us are happy to support them. That is, until we feel like we are getting ripped off.

You know that place you go to when you’re like, «I don’t want to pay a lot for breakfast, but I don’t want to die from food poisoning.»? That’s Lucky’s. Nothing here will blow your mind. But nothing here will kill you either. The food is a decent price, given how expensive everything else in Boulder is, but with that comes a beverage waitstaff that seems to have never learned how to pour liquids. They spill more water and coffee than I’ve ever seen a waitstaff spill. Half the time they don’t even acknowledge the spill. Oh, one tip about the tip. For some janky ass reason, you have to include the tip BEFORE they run your credit card. Something about their processing system not allowing them to add tips in afterwards.

I’m mixed, mostly because I’m disappointed that my favorite non-Boulder-esk diner has gone full-Boulder. On the other hand, I’ve never seen them so busy before so apparently it was a good business decision and I can hardly blame them. The food was mostly very good, especially the chicken-friend steak and the biscuits. My grilled cheese, on the other hand, was greasy and the bread was barely toasted. The«pesto swirl» in the tomato soup was basically green-tinted olive oil. I’ve never had such flavorless soup, and adding more oil to the already greasy meal made it almost inedible. We’ll give them another shot, since my family lives near there and it had promise. But I’ll miss the old diner feel!
