Pica’s Taqueria

Pica’s is excellent for a low-​key delicious meal. There’s lots of options (I went with the Tacos al Pastor) and they’re a good portion for the price. The outdoor patio is also great with a garden vibe.

The food here was fresh and tasty. The place itself is very clean and the staff very friendly. It reminded me of a nicer quality privately owned Chipolte type restaurant. Great for a quick lunch. Counter service. Seat yourself.

Came here on a recommendation from a friend. Got greeted by the very friendly staff, and got to meet the manager Mat. Now, not being very fond of Mexican food, I had my wife order. We ended up splitting a steak Carne Asada. Wow! Talk about Ono!!! Dang, was it ever! Topped that off with a custard dessert. If I ever past thru this area again, I’ll be sure to stop by.

I came here the other night with my friend with high expectations. I had always heard good things about the food and the service, but unfortunately I didn’t have the same experience.
I ordered the veggie quesadilla. The man who took my order was very distracted, he was counting receipts and ignored me for a good while before he acknowledged me. But, I decided to go on with a postive attitude and try the food. My friend and I sat down, and he literally got his tacos 5 seconds after we sat down. I was impressed how quickly his food came out, and was expecting mine to come out relatively soon.
I waited and waited, watched my friend eat his food as my stomach growled. By the time my friend was already more than half way done with his meal, my quesadilla finally arrived!
I was excited to bite into a cheesy, warm, crispy quesadilla. Sadly, this food was none of those things.
The quesadilla was cold! The cheese wasn’t even melted, and it was very unevenly spread. Half of my quesadilla had no cheese, and the other half had so much cheese it was soggy. So, I paid $ 10 for a poor attempt at a meal.
Needless to say, I’m disappointed. I will never return and will tell my friends to go spend their money elsewhere.

I was looking for a great place to eat and came across this place… Wow. what a great place to eat!!! I definitely recommend this place!

This is one of those places I have driven past hundreds of times and thought I would check it out sometime. I had the steak quesadilla which was actually quite good. The rice was OK, and the black beans were runny and nothing special. My friend and I were starving, and I ordered a guacamole and chips appetizer for both of us to share. The guac was overpowered by the smell and taste of red onions. Sadly, all I could taste was red onions for the next eight or nine hours. I will definitely think twice before I return.

Super yummy and friendly — if you are a vegetarian, highly recommend the beet tacos. Plus Pica’s makes the best tortilla soup in town!

Wet burritos are nice, I really like the sauce they smother it with. Regular burrito was just ok. The soup looks good too but I haven’t tried it yet. Service is always quick and friendly — recommended for a fast casual lunch if you’re in the area!

I have been looking for a place in Colorado that makes their own tortillas since I moved here! I spent four years in Texas eating amazing tacos and I had yet to find a place as good here. This is it. This is my new taco place. I had their baja shrimp tacos and I absolutely loved them! They pile on the toppings so it’s a little messy to eat but so good! I also tried their salsa and chips — loved that their salsa tastes so fresh and that the heat isn’t too bad. Definitely going back again!

Love these Baja fish tacos! Good light batter on fried fish, tortillas not too heavy or chewy. Sauce is light and plentiful.

After hearing so many people recommend this place, I was excited to give it a go. I ordered a carnitas burrito, but who knows what I got. The meat was SO bland it could have been chicken, turkey, or some other flavorless protein… So disappointing. I suppose it wasn’t all bad though, the Al Pastor Tacos my fiancé ordered were 10x better… They had GOOD flavor.

Tasty! I had the Al Pastor Taco plate which was, I think, $ 9.50 and I ate every morsel on my plate. The tacos were very good. The rice and beans were fine but not outstanding, but I was starved and I was wishing there was a third taco on my plate.
There were many things on the menu that looked delicious, so I can see coming back and trying something different, although I would definitely recommend the Al Pastor. The tacos seemed pretty pricy as an a la carte option.

The fish tacos were one step away from SoCal perfect. The fish was just cooked a bit to long so it was slightly tuff. However, the flavor was there! The posole was incredible. It’s unique in that it’s almost creamy with chicken instead of pork. Yum. We sat outside on their back patio which is nicely decorated with bright colors and also shade to block out the intense sun. The food is ordered at a counter and the brought out to you when done so it’s a nice setting for lunch or a casual dinner.

Having seen this cute place tucked in a strip center I would have not guessed how good it was. Until I saw an order of their food get brought into the cycling shop next door. As a visitor to town only and so many places to choose from we selected this before heading to DIA
Vanessa who greeted us promptly provided several top recos. I went with the beet tacos and pastuer. Served with rice and black beans. Amazing! Beets were grilled perfectly cubed with onion and cojoti (cheese).
My boyfriend had the carne asada wet burrito. Which had a Mexican tangy BBQ sauce. The meat was fab. Tortilla was thin.
A couple local beers too.
Did I mention the darling patio? Perfect!

This is the first time I’ve gotten their takeout and the experience was beyond disappointing. I’ve eaten in the restaurant and the experience was 4+ stars so I expected a similar experience with take out
What made it a bad experience? For $ 10.90, I got a small burrito in foil in a brown paper bag. Nothing else. No drink. No salsa. No sour cream. No napkins. No rice. Really? There was a place I used to get burritos from down in Lakewood that charged $ 4 and they even gave you two types of salsa.
Unfortunately that’s the last time I will have their take out. Too bad because I would have been a regular having just taken a new job down the road.

I feel like an idiot. I have been getting my coffee from Ozo virtually next door and never tried Pica’s until today.
I thought it would be yet another tex-​mex place that sold you orange cheese, flour tortillas, used lot of cummin and gave you limes. I was very wrong.
My first surprise was seeing pozole verde on the menu. Not many places in the US make pozole, and it is native of the state where I grew up in Mexico, but they were out. I will come back to try it and will update my review.
So I went for the tacos. Three different ones: Pastor (which is very hard to get right), carnitas and grilled shrimp.
Wow.
The key to a good taco is a good, freshly made, warm tortilla. It’s been a long time since I have had such a good tortilla. The perfect tortilla is not only warm but it is at the point where it is getting toasty, so it gives a very slight crunch. Just like the ones at pica’s.
The pastor was delicious, I was surprised. Carnitas was super tasty, better than I expected. The shrimp was great, and spicy too. The salsa they use on that one is incredible.
Service was great, price is reasonable and the restaurant is nice. What more can you ask for.
Pica’s has earned a place on my special list, and I can’t wait to come back to Boulder to try the pozole and other stuff on the menu.

PIca’s is a great addition to the Mexican offerings in Boulder. Had the Beet Taco’s with cojita cheese. The beet tacos were not on the menu, but friend I was with knew about them and we asked and sure enough they had em.
I’m taking one star off for chips and salsa which you have to pay like $ 2 for and were pretty average at best.
While located out by 55^th St. & Arapahoe, it’s worth the drive from Downtown Boulder. Although the parking lot is awkward and gets super crowded due to the Wendy’s drive through next door.

I continue to love Pica’s for a myriad of reasons. Today I had the posole for lunch and it was incredibly good. So hearty and sustaining and the crispy tostada was a great item to dip. Also, I love the service here — I have to give a huge shout-​out to Matt who is almost always there (we go a lot and we always see him!) and he is just so friendly and helpful. He’s wonderful to my kids and is so efficient and quick — always checking if people are enjoying their meals, always cleaning up, getting food out quickly, etc. But most importantly, he is incredibly nice. One of the main reasons we return again and again!

Happy to have found another great, affordable and quick dinner spot in Boulder near the dance venue I attend (The Avalon — check out the swing dancing there!).
I was overwhelmed by choices but the employee at the counter helped me by suggesting I try two different tacos. I went for Al Pastor (her recommendation) and the special beet taco.
Minutes later I was enjoying both. The beet taco had soft and really flavorful beet chunks and a chewy, tangy Mexican cheese that rocked my mouth. The Al Pastor is not my style, but I did enjoy the tiny pineapple chunks mixed in.
I’ll be back on my next visit to the area and might have to try this wet burrito everyone speaks of.
