History

Established in 2009.

Founded in 2009 by a couple of graduate students with a passion for teaching, the BuffTutor Program has rapidly grown into a fast and effective tutor referral service. By the Spring of 2011, with over 50 tutors on our roster, we were able to help over 200 high school and college students connect with tutors in less than 24 hours. Most of our tutors are graduate and undergraduate students at CU Boulder studying Math, Science and Engineering, but we also have a number of professional tutors on staff. In the past year, we have added Economics, Foreign Languages, Writing and Liberal Arts tutors. As we continue to grow, so does the list of courses we can tutor.

Meet the Business Owner

Mogi M.

Business Owner

Mogi received her B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University at the age of 19 and her M.S. from the University of Colorado at Boulder. At Purdue, she was employed as a Calculus and Chemistry tutor, and she has also worked as undergraduate and graduate TA for a few Chemical Engineering courses. While working as a tutor and TA over the years, she noticed recurring problems:

1) Students could not get the individual attention they needed in large lectures

2) Students did not know how to find qualified tutors

3) Students could not afford private tutoring centers

To address these issues, she sought out tutors on the students’ behalf. Every tutor was interviewed to ensure that they met her strict academic and communication abilities. As a result, the BuffTutor Program was born, a fast and effective tutor referral service that helps students connect with highly intelligent tutors. By creating a network rather than a tutoring center, tutor are able to keep their rates low.
