Howerton+Wooten Events is a team of ladies and gentlemen who know the value of having open, courteous professionals on your wedding team. We honor ingenuity because we know that cookie-​cutter is boring (big time). And, we work hard to make you feel like a member of our family because we know that weddings are an emotional event.

Founder and principal consultant Kawania Wooten CMP, brings a unique mix of experience and skills to her event planning firm. Kawania’s 17 years of planning high-​end events for Washington DC and Manhattan non-​profit organizations blend naturally with her experience as a skilled creator of wedding cakes.

Known to many as Kay, she uses her attention-​grabbing sense of style, keen attention to the smallest details and strong commitment to customer service as the hallmark of her business. As the founder of the company, Ka strives for professionalism, creativity and impeccable organization within every function planned by Howerton+Wooten Events.

Business Owner

Kawania is an award-​winning meeting and event planner, and she earned her Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation from the Convention Industry Council in 2004. She is a frequent speaker on issues faced by meeting and event planning professionals. In addition, she has spoken to and provided competitive strategy counsel to a variety of industry and business groups.

Her professional affiliations include Professional Convention Management Association, American Society of Association Executives, and the International Special Events Society.

Kawania has been featured in The Knot Magazine, Essence Magazine, the «Smart Planner» blog, and she is a featured wedding blogger for Premier Bride Magazine. She holds a Bachelors degree in Mass Media Arts from Hampton University in Hampton VA, and she participated in the Harvard Business School’s Executive Management Program in June of 2005.

If you are looking for a wedding planner do yourself a favor and schedule a consult with Kay at Howerton +Wooten Events! I had the unique challenge of planning a Maryland wedding while living in Texas. Even though I signed up for partial planning services, Howerton + Wooten completely exceeded my expectations the entire time. She even sent us care packages with wedding magazines and other treats along the way. She assisted us with setting up meeting with vendors and picking out the vendors and items that would best suit our individual style for our multicultural wedding.
Leading up to the big day, Kay and her team really saved us by helping with some extra last minute tasks such as gift bags and table settings which was sooo greatly appreciated. Kay was exceptionally kind and patient from start to finish. She even dealt with my ‘momzilla’ in perfect stride on the wedding day. From the initial contact to several months after the wedding, Kay and the staff at Howerton +Wooten have been wonderful. During the process we not only got the best wedding planner ever but also gained a new friend! We look forward to booking Howerton + Wooten for future events!

On the morning of our wedding, my biggest worry was how much my husband would tear up as he saw me walking toward him down the aisle. Kawania (Kay) and her team at Howerton + Wooten Events helped to plan and execute our day with an immaculate attention to detail and a calm demeanor, ensuring that our guests move flawlessly from ceremony to cocktail reception to dinner. Kay was a trusted advisor, who felt like a family friend.
This anxious bride experienced Kay’s expertise and passion for what she does come to life in every phone call, email, and vendor meeting. Months later, our loved ones have continued to proclaim that the level of detail, the personal touches, and the amazing reception-​turned-​party made our wedding one of the most memorable life experiences they’ve had. The day passed by far too quickly not just for us as bride and groom, but for our attendees.

Look no further than Howerton-​Wooten events because you will be well taken care of by someone who cares deeply about quality and the couples she works with. And that love goes beyond the wedding because Kay will remember your anniversary and send you congratulations and if you grow your family she will be excited for you. I promise you, you won’t find any other professional (with impeccable taste) with such a big heart.

My mom and I found Kawania Wooten (Kay) of Howerton-​Wooten Events on the Knot. From the beginning, Kay was extremely professional and stood head and shoulders above the other planners we interviewed. We hired her after booking the venue and I wish we’d waited to get her input because she probably would’ve saved us money in the long run by going with a smaller hotel. Kay came to the table with a long list of recommended professionals, and all of the vendors she recommended were excellent.
Kay was great to work with; she’s friendly and easy going, which made it easy to discuss choices with her. She is professional and able to quickly assess what we wanted based on her many years of experience. She was ready and able to solve most all our problems, but also ready to bring different views and approaches to the discussion in order to find a good solution. Her recommendations for lighting and décor were very high style; I’d trust her and her team with any of my events.

Kawania did an excellent job at our wedding! We hired her as our month of coordinator. Kawania and her team went above and beyond to make our event a very special one. She kept in touch with us throughout the process and let us know if she was going to be away or unavailable. They have many resources we were able to use as well. For instance, if you didn’t like one of the makeup artists, she has many more for you to call and try. She was also able to help us stay within our budget when selecting the additional vendors we needed. Kawania also has many wonderful and unique ideas. She helped us decorate our sweetheart table, which we thought of having last minute. On the day of, her and her team made sure that we got some of our hors d’œuvre to eat and kept everything running smoothly. Even with last minute changes, they were able to help accommodate them and make things happen. At the end of the night, she helped make sure that all the things we wanted were collected and got back to us. She definitely made our day one to remember!

I don’t even know where to start about Kay. Well, she’s amazing, but there are specific reasons why:
1) *She is a friend*: Probably like many brides, I thought that I didn’t need a wedding coordinator since I am relatively anal, a micromanager and love Excel spreadsheets. From the minute we met Kay during our consultation I knew we could not survive without her. But not because she infuses your wedding with her personal opinions but because she is a good friend and a great listener. She gets to know you and because of her years of experience can synthesize and organize your wedding to perfection, which leads to my next point that…
2) *She is a resource*: Because she has been in the business for a while, she can give excellent, vetted vendor recommendations. Our DJ, florist, makeup/​hair stylists, transportation, etc were all Kay’s recommendations — it made the process so much easier and hassle-​free (a great thing when you are juggling so many wedding planning balls)
3) *She is a guide*: I literally had no clue what I wanted and had never imagined what my wedding day would be like. Probably a nightmare to work with, Kay never showed it — she was patient, listened and provides great guidelines, timelines and task lists for how to plan your wedding. She walks you through everything and makes you feel totally organized. When you start to feel overwhelmed with everything, she steps in and does her magic.
Maybe that is my #4: *She is a magician*.
Whatever it was, she is definitely a must-​have person on your wedding team. I would recommend her without hesitation and would love to work with her anytime. I already miss our weekly check-​ins.
It is rare to find someone who is not only really really good at what they do for a living, but also really love it too. Kay, you most definitely have both.
