Tonight was the first time I’ve been here. Met my girlfriend and kids here for dinner, since we were all craving sushi. This review is not based on the food, that was amazing! This review is based solely on the lack of concern from our server that there was soy sauce residue caked on the side and under the table, which subsequently ruined the shirt I was wearing. While she was pleasant in her apology I did expect an offer to help me with my shirt.(clean my shirt, reduction of bill, something) A high caliber restaurant like, Kumo, I would have expect a more personal customer service response.

I previously posted about my experience at Kumo. I called the restaurant to explain the situation and the manager Dollar at first was apologetic and helpful but had to refer back to the«owners» before any decisions could be made. What you would think would be a no brainer for customer service they first tried to say well this is a he said she said situation. I asked that in good faith if they would refund my bill since the entire celebratory dinner was ruined.(they originally offered $ 50 gift card and $ 50 refund on a $ 300 bill) Dollar said she would do what she could and would have to check with the owners. She said if we do that can you take down your review. I didn’t get any follow up from her until I called back to find out what the status was of everything going on. At this point I was more concerned about how they were handling their DRUGDEALING bar tender than anything else. She then claimed there was a video that they could hear everything and that he didn’t say anything. I asked if I could see the video to show them where their DRUGDEALING bartender offered to sell us drugs. She said I was not permitted to do so. After all of this she then refused to even give me the $ 100 credit they originally offered and said«too late» that was the offer last week you didn’t accept it then. I’m am NOT an exaggerator and I hope you do not take this as this is just an angry person. The sushi here is awesome. I have gone here hundreds of times but this experience has truly sadden me that they are willing to lose a customer that has been loyal to them and without directly calling me a liar basically did. How could someone make up such a story. Be careful coming here. Also be weary that if anything goes wrong the customer service doesn’t make you want to come back anyway. There are PLENTY of great sushi places in town, don’t waste your time here. By the way the bartender’s name is Brian. If he is working I would avoid him because of course he still has a job.

The food was great and the service was exceptional. They fed 13 of us and we were in and out within 1 ½ hours. Highly recommend.

I’ve come here several times in the past two years. The experience, food quality and customer service has noticeably diminished. The punch bowl, once a «get a definite buzz» is now just a minimally spiked bowl of juice with a kick. Don’t bother. Go next door to the Half Shell. Especially is you are planning on eating seafood. Not going there again for hibachi again.

So I have been coming here for 7 – 8 years at least and have really enjoyed the quality of true sushi, the awesome specials and the overall atmosphere ! The other nice little perk is they have a frequent shopper type rewards card where when you collect 6 of them, you get $ 30 off your next check. Since I have been a regular customer for several years, I have used these cards to save a little lettuce from time to time. Well I was in tonite and spent almost $ 50 for just myself and was informed that in order to get a another rewards card, you have to spend $ 50! Wow… really…so needless to say, I won’t be back. Heads up to ownership of Kumo, three way you establish loyalty and commitment to your place of business is not place restrictions on the frequent customers that keep yours doors open! #bettercustomerservice… Forgot to finish the saga from last nite at the University location. So my bill last nite came to $ 47 including tip which is $ 3 away from getting a rewards card. So I asked my server if I can get one and evidently the manager that night said no, you have to spend $ 50. Wow so I was $ 3 away. Here is the ironic part, I come here so often that I have 5 rewards cards now at home(meaning I have spent at least $ 300 or more) but you need 6 cards to turn them in for $ 30 off your next check. So for $ 3, they lost a customer for life.

This place is a staple for us! We regularly go here to celebrate, birthdays and whatever else we can come up with to celebrate. Great sushi and hibachi and they are always very accommodating of our friend who has a shell fish allergy. Two thumbs up!

What an amazing place!!! Honestly do not pass this place up. In the plaza at University & Honore. The portions outstanding, the pricing amazing and the fresh delicious incredible sushi was some of the best I’ve ever had in around the WORLD! We had an extremely friendly and attentive server named Andre that took care of us fantastically. So many servers could learn a lot from this young man. The restaurant ambiance was very warm inviting and extremely clean and pretty. Chairs and tables were of great quality and the restrooms were just as classy and spotless. I cannot wait to come back and dig into the rest of the huge selection of rolls and take part in the cleanest and funnest looking hibachi experience I’ve ever seen. Outstanding place, people, food, pricing and experience. I cannot wait to come back and guarantee you that I will make this a regular stop in Florida as a Michigan boy. WELLDONEKUMO! Thank you so much and we’ll see ya soon with friends and family in tow to enjoy as much as we did. P. S. The tea was kick a$$!!

I was very disappointed that you don’t offer noodles in place of rice when every other Japanese steakhouse does and I talked to 3 people and all three said 3 different things will not return to your restaurant

Great hibachi dinner show for our son’s birthday. Our chef catered to the kids, which was what we wanted. He did a great entertaining them. Fried rice was great. Their green tea is Devine $ 1 which includes free refills. The stir fry veggies turned out over salted. They sing & bring out a birthday treat. Clean restaurant. Service was what you would expect. Also as far as a Japanese place goes — they have UNI!!! And it was delicious.

5 stars? Out of your mind back from Seattle? Sorry, food was NOT edible here. RUN!(Next door if you want seafood. Asian food, no where good around here) Came here twice before with my family, this time was the worst and will not return. Frist, wrong drink orders. Second, SLOW on a slow Tuesday night, very slow. Third, overcooked chicken skewers, OLD sushi(sexy roll not sexy!) OLD Hibachi Calamari, old salad, old edamame. I wondered why old food took them so long? Defrost? No idea, all had a weired old taste to them. Yike. RUN!!! *GM of Kumo had been emailing me to make me feel bad about my review. I am here to stand behind my review: grew up in Asia, living in several major cities, freshness of food plus good flavors are key. This restaurant doesn’t have it, Asian or not. Plus the super slow pace to deliver food was unacceptable. Worst of all, the GM didn’t feel any short of it. Hopeless. Told me to Not be a part of this restaurant? I won’t. I RAN.

Long-awaited dinner at this modern Japanese restaurant with performing hibachi chefs and an extensive sushi bar menu left me with nothing but an unsatisfied experience. Reservation was scheduled for a weekday evening. Parties are seated when everyone has arrived, in which I was not informed when making reservations. Once all ten were present, we were seated in the private room due to our large party. Hostess informed us that our chef would be handling us in a matter of minutes, which ended up being a whole hour later. Hibachi dishes sat in front of my nine guests, while I fell under the sushi category. Due to their experience, food was not worth the wait and I completely agree. While their plates were covered with sauce, my sushi was not nice and clean, as it was sloppily put together.

We used to live here 3 years ago and have moved to Seattle since but came back for a visit today and still as good as it was 3 years ago. Pro: We love their sushi and sashimi. Well made and not skimpy on their fish. I love that they put the perfect amount of vegetable to protein ratio and that the sushi chef go out of his way to cut their cucumber into toothpick size, it gives a little more texture to the roll. Ginger is also fresh and not colored like some that are pinkish. Their bento boxes comes with good amount of protein and I love that they even sautéed the chicken over onions and not just drizzled the teriyaki over grilled chicken without actually putting effort into making it flavorful. Sushi chef is great and service is great. Cons: there are a couple of rolls that do not have description. I would suggest getting those on the description list to avoid delaying the ordering process. Other than that, no cons really. I can’t speak to the hibachi part but definitely recommend the sushi side of the restaurant to anyone that enjoys some fresh rolls.

Here at 6:20 on Friday night, greeted and seated quickly. Server was friendly and was to our table within minutes. Had the seaweed salad as appetizer, delicious. I always ask for some ginger salad dressing on the side for the bed of lettuce the seaweed is on. Proceeded to a sushi dinner. Always fresh with beautiful presentation. No complaints here

Pretty good food and service. The steak hibachi was not as flavorful as I expected but still good and the shrimp sushi was amazing!

We love going to Kumo on University. We always sit at the bar because the restaurant is so busy and Brian, the bartender, is awesome ! We go there often and always get the best service.

Great food and great people. Every time I go to Kumo I discover something new. The staff is very accommodating and the food is always great. The best Sushi in town.

If it wasn’t for the good customer service from everyone else, I would’ve given this place a one star. The sushi was ok. The lady in charge was nice at first until I told her I had a Groupon, then she wasn’t so friendly. I also came alone that day, so maybe she don’t like loners. I don’t really care. I’m fairly new to Florida and I wanted to try out some asian food but the sushi here is nothing like those back in California. The price was decent and like I said the sushi was ok. The place looked nice but deserted. I only tipped because of the waiters and other staff. Good job providing good customer service! When I went up to pay for the meal, the lady didn’t smile until she saw that I was giving a tip. Well… I’m not coming back here again.

I’m not sure why all the meh reviews for this place — we had an amazing dinner. We had a party of 6 and everyone was thrilled with their experience. Sushi was reported as being amazing by those who partook. The tofu appetizer was raved over. The vegetable tempura was great — 2 of each veggie which makes it easy to share(broccoli, carrot, zucchini, mushroom, etc) The tuna hibachi dinner was a big hit. I had the filet and chicken hibachi meal and loved every part of it. The soup had great flavor and the salad had a tasty ginger dressing. The portions on my fried rice, vegetables and meats were HUGE and it was all delicious. The service was quick and the«show» had some unique additions which was fun. The sauces they serve with the hibachi are a ginger sauce and a «yum-yum» sauce(white mayo based sauce) — both were great. Can’t wait for another chance to dine at Kumo!

I’ve been to a few Hibachi restaurants in my day and I wasn’t impressed by Kumo at all. When we initially walked in and there wasn’t a wait on a Friday night was an indication of mediocrity. The service was great & the chef was entertaining but the food was blah. I LOVE garlic but everything was one note. The fried rice was weird & lacked flavor(other than garlic). Nice quiet ambience with amazing service but I’d rather go to Samuri because the food is much better.
